I feel this so much. my son use to tell me everything. I remember one time grudgingly listening to him talk about his favorite video game characters for two hours. Now he is 16. I ask how was school? Fine. what did you do today? Nothing. Getting him to form sentences feels like I'm interrogating a hostile witness. that keep pleading the fifth. I miss those days of endless chatter.
I’m autistic and I’m kinda both, I’ll happily explain the entire lore of my favourite video game series, character etc but you’re only getting a one-liner when you ask me how school was
Oh boy, this video was really appropriate for me today. You just wait….My oldest daughter just moved out today, like right this moment she is moving out. Her room is empty and I feel like bawling my eyes out. She was 5 years old like 5 minutes ago. I am so proud of her, but I am going to miss her like crazy. And here comes the tears…right on cue….Love from Denmark
As a mom in the “then” stage, Kim talking about how her daughter is driving and “just yesterday” they were singing wheels on the bus, I had alllll the feels 😭
It'll go by so fast and it will shatter your heart when they grow out of their childhood obsessions(like dinosaurs and that tv show/movie they watch on repeat) and detest it and start asking for their own phone
This video almost made me cry. When I was a kid, my mom would brag about how her 14 year old tucked her in at night. She worked shift work and went to bed extremely early. My mother passed away last year. What I wouldn’t give to tuck her in.
Amazing how quickly it goes. One day it's 'Give Mommy five minutes' the next it's 'What? You don't have five minutes to call your Mother and let her know you're still alive' LOL.
“Then” my son used to say “cuddle mommy”. Now, at 13, I had to beg for a hug near his school. He had to make sure nobody was around and gave me a weird awkward side hug. 😞. Time flies.
When you asked the kids to come tuck you in, I lost it. So accurate! My 18- and 15-year-olds regularly send me to bed while they're just gearing up for the evening. When did all this happen? When I was in the newborn stage I thought it would never end, and now my kid is halfway through her senior year. I'm going to go make my kids hug me now, bye!
That is an impressive stack of books on one of your kids night stands! Also, you continually amaze me with how well you know my life; all so very relatable! Thanks for yet another great laugh.
In the song "Sunrise, Sunset" from "Fiddler on the Roof": "Is this the little girl I carried? Is this the little boy at play? I don't remember growing older - when did they?" 💖
This hits awfully close to home for us. We have a 14-year-old and a 7-year-old. Oldest isn't driving yet, but some of her friends are and she will be soon. And braces -- think I need to take out a second mortgage to pay for those. But just "yesterday" she was 7 and our other was a newborn. Love the content! Thanks for being "real" with us!
I needed to see this! The toddler life is overwhelming and they seem so needy. My youngest wants to snuggle constantly. This is a reminder to say "Yes." One day, he'll be too big and proud to ask for a mommy snuggle.
Let me bring some perspective. Two weeks ago, my 2 littles were the sweetest things ever. We watched Barney and The Elephant Show. I potty trained them and cried as each started Kindergarten. Literal yesterday, I picked up the 2 grandkids living with me from elementary school and dropped them off at Boys and Girls. Then, I visited a different grand at ER (she's okay), then picked up the youngest from daycare and took her home (mommy at hospital with the big sister). Talked to grand 3 of 5 after picking up her siblings from B&G. How did I go from 2 sweet little girls to 5 grandkids in 2 weeks. And, yes, they're 7 & younger and very much at the "then" stage.
As a great grandfather I can still relate like 2 then and nows with one then. My wife and I ( still friends after 48 years ) can't see a baby go by without ooing and teenagers without thinking about those poor parents. Keep it up your impressions are wonderful.
This brought back so many memories. I remember being told every imaginable thing about Pokémon, Ninjago, and Marvel and DC every single day. My nephew used to wake me up in the middle of the night and ask me for a hug. My niece used to fall asleep kissing and holding my hand. She used to hug it like it was a teddy bear. I used to lie down next to her until she fell asleep. Now I barely get 12 sentences in a day.
Oh my goodness, I'm going through both stages at the same time with a 14 year old and 4 year old. So funny! Thank you for this, I can relate to ALL of this! 🤣
I know this is a bit off topic, but would you mind telling me how the two of them are together? I'm in a position where I may be dealing with a very similar age gap between siblings.
As a mom of 7 (ages 2- almost 14), I have yet to leave the "then" stage 🥴, with "now" mixed in, too. Sometimes it's crazy, sometimes my littles don't have the fun & attentive "then" Mom anymore, and sometimes it's awesome to have the spread of ages at the same time. 😊
My daughter got her learners permit in September and oh my gosh I wasn't ready. She gets frustrated when I'm freaking out bc she's like "I'm a good driver" and I'm like "yes, you're doing great, but also you are my BABY. Like in my mind you have been a human for a few short years and now you are conveying me around town in my own car. What is that?!" 😭🤦🏻♀️😅 One day they might understand, lol. Good luck with those nerves till then!! ♥️🥰
I have a toddler so I am in the THEN stage, I have friends that have gone through both stages and seen it. Hold onto them while you can, they grow too fast!
Spot on. I thought I couldn't wait for my son to grow up, boy was I wrong! Treasure all the moments of their younger years b/c it does go by in a blink of an eye. 😢 Great video!
I've REALLY been enjoying these babies vs teens videos lately! My "baby" is almost 12! 😱😱😱 So many more changes to come. But the Christmas Then VS Now video REALLY hit home this year! Our first year without Santa! 😭😭😭
Mom of a 20, 19 + 17 yo. Getting ready for my baby to launch to college after next year like his Sib’s. This is so real. And hilarious. I feel like I’m still that same toddler Mom inside but now I have to relate to them so differently. But I still see that little child inside of them too. They make me so proud and yet drive me so crazy too. And I know I’ll miss every minute of THIS time too, SO SOON. My college kids are coming home this week so Thank You for the reminder of the preciousness of these moments. I used to say when they were young, “We’ll never get this summer back, the summer when you were ____ yrs old!!” Here comes another one. May it be great!! And funny thing: I got our dog when the kids started HS to lure them back home and help them want to be around more. Damn if that dog isn’t the BEST THING in my life right now!!! 😉😂😂
I laughed out loud when you reminded me of how we switched from arguments getting little kids to bed to going to bed before them. My kids now all have their own kids. Pay back! I love your work. I love that it makes me laugh and reminisce without the interruption of crude stuff and swearing. Thank you so much for bringing joy to our family. Many of your videos are copied across to our family chat group.
Piece of advice: have a family friend teach your kid to drive. TOTALLY worth it. Also, yes, my son says good night to me now that I go to bed earlier lol
@@emmaschauer5409 Oh I do everyday but it's kind of annoying. And whilst I love my mom I'm not sure if I have a great relationship with her. I do hate my dad though.
As others have said - this is so true - one day you are a sleep deprived mom of a new born and in the blink of an eye (literally) you are watching your 9.5 year old grandson play flag football on a sunny Sunday afternoon. You cannot take any day for granted! ❤️❤️❤️
I have a toddler and a teenager right now and this is a perfect representation of my life 🤣 so relatable!!!! You guys are hilarious and seem like amazing parents.
This is so true!!!! I've never thought about this until your video! Despite having 2 teenagers and now a 2 yr & 4 yr old!!! What have I been thinking?! Too caught up in just living life I suppose . . . Thanks for the great laugh along with the reminder to try and enjoy the ride because in a blink of an eye how different (yet the same 😉) life will be. I especially love the reverse roll of the bedtime routine - I literally do that with my older kids, "Can you get me a glass of water? I'm already laying down and I can't get up." 💯
My 4th came 19 years after my 3rd. He also came with a 1.3 million dollar price tag. I hope he gets cheaper as time goes on. But the first three definitely fell into the typical category. Except my 2nd. Now 21, her medical bills are closer to $3,500/ month, just hers alone. Life is tough, but still blessed to have them all. 🙏🏻👆🏻😊 Thank you for making me laugh and smile often Holderness Family!!!
1:07 Is literally me right now. Trying to get my 15 month old to go do something other than bug me while I, uh, work (and watch this vid), since I'm having to watch him and work from home this morning.

I love this relatable content! My "babies" are 18, 21, and 24. My firstborn (who already lives out of state) called this morning and talked about their upcoming move cross-country. 😭
You have to understand that Dads go through this as well, often in our own special way. True Story. My Mother used to make dresses for my daughters for Christmas, Easter, etc. It was my responsibility to get all of the measurements for the dresses (arm length, wrist diameter, etc.). One day I had my wife ready, with the daughters present, and her measuring tape in hand. I call my Mother on the telephone. We begin with my 12 year old daughter. The exchange goes something like this. Mom questions: Bust? Wife measures: 36. I relay information. Mom questions: Waist? Wife measures: 26. I relay information. Mom questions: Hips? Wife measures: 36. I (totally clueless and aghast) reply: When the Hell did this happen?
This simultaneously made me laugh and want to cry! My girls are 10, 6 and 4 so I am in the then stage and seeing glimpses on the now stage. I feel like it was just yesterday that we were coming home from the hospital with my oldest and then celebrating her 10th birthday two days later! Seriously, the time goes so fast...
Um, yeah. My kids are going to be 25 and 21 in the next 2 months. I'm pretty sure I just graduated from HS 5 years ago so not sure how that happened. This one definitely hit home.
My “baby” now has a serious girlfriend with whom he spends most of his time. I feel like I have lost my best friend. Time to join a book club, I guess.
I laughed out loud when you tucked in the little one and got him a glass of water and now you're asking them to let you to bed and get you the water. That is SO true!!!
I SWEAR you must have cameras or microphones in my house! How did you know this is what has happened in our lives too! The last scene especially hit home. All my teens prefer to stay up later than I do. Hahaha
As my son is now 13, this is so incredibly accurate. Very well done! Especially the toilet flushing part, what's up with that?? I started charging my husband and son $1 when they leave it unflushed. Don't care who it is, if nobody fesses up they both pay it.
So true! Mine are all grown up and now are starting to take care of me. I had caught the Rona this past two weeks and my middle child brought me the medication care packages, two nights in a row. I did that for them when they got sick and were in college. Now I have a cat to keep me company. I wish I could say she is sweet and never sasses back, but she is one snarky cat, but I love her dearly anyway, my little Miss Hissy Face 😈
My son 25 had Rona last week and I was running up and down with trays of meals, drinks, medicines.... (taking all precautions) then I got it and he and his brother are off out and have no time for there Mum anymore.... hey ho where did those sweet kids go?
The snacks!!! 🤣 My husband went shopping tonight and as he was putting the juice boxes on the shelf my son came up and tried to grab one! We both yelled at him that those were for school! They (12, 9 & 8) eat all the school snacks and then complain about not having enough snacks in their lunches...🤦♀️
There's this Disney world commercial that plays on Paramount+ in between all the Paw Patrol, and it says, "These days, we measure time a little differently...the way her hand fits into mine...how many times the tooth fairy has visited...or how much heavier she feels when I carry her to bed...all we know is...this kind of magic...only lasts so long." I literally can't even type that without the tears coming. That one gets me right in the feels. Especially now that my little one is FOUR years old. FOUR YEARS. and I have another little on the way to remind me of all the ways my first is turning into such a little human. Man!
Omg that last one is so relatable hahaha 😆 Going to bed before the kids and getting them to bring you water or your phone. To be fair they have way more energy than us!! 😆 hehe
I feel this so much. my son use to tell me everything. I remember one time grudgingly listening to him talk about his favorite video game characters for two hours. Now he is 16. I ask how was school? When the wheels on the bus scene came for the then scene, I thought that the now scene would feature some really vulgar song playing in the car.
Before you know it, they’re getting MARRIED?! WHERE DO THE YEARS GO?!?
This video almost made me cry.

My kids are 23,24,25 now and I love it. The younger 2 are still at home and we have a blast. Open and honest communication is the best with kids.

Lol, that's a good way to do it

My daughter, also Lola, is set to get her learners this year too! So crazy.
OMG, asking your kid, no, begging your kid to teach you how to use the darn iPhone- that’s so relatable 🤣🤣🤣
My “baby” now has a serious girlfriend with whom he spends most of his time. I feel like I have lost my best friend. Time to join a book club, I guess.
😭😭😭💔💔💔
I feel like there should be a rule, were whoever found out the toilet wasn’t flushed (whoever it maybe) gets to charge the person who did it 1$
Always love when Sunny makes an appearance!
"the UA-cam" is hilarious 😂. That's my mom
Lol, "kids, come say goodnight to me!" Haha.
I thought the same thing about the books! This video is absolutely true for me and my now adult son!! So relatable!
I have a stack of books too, but in a closet because my bedside table is full (eyeglasses, box of tissues, glass of water, and a teddy bear.)
1:52 😆 relatable for me currently!
🐕🐕🐕🐕☀️☀️☀️☀️ *Sunny is my favorite too!*
There's this Disney world commercial that plays on Paramount+ in between all the Paw Patrol, and it says, "These days, we measure time a little differently...the way her hand fits into mine...how many times the tooth fairy has visited...or how much heavier she feels when I carry her to bed...all we know is...this kind of magic...only lasts so long."
I literally can't even type that without the tears coming.
😆 hehe
This made me cry
😂😂 so true!! Happy weekend Holderness Family
Have a great weekend!
I love this video very very much and I would like to say Happy Mothers Day moms
