I plan on doing sheet metal skirts and flares on my hatch. The previous owner hacked this car to death and folded over the pinch weld the entire length of the car. Great vid as always!
man that sucks, there was quite a bit of hack and jimmy rig'in on mine as well. The pinch welds were shot too! I took an adjustable wrench and big flat head screw driver to pry the pinch weld off the rockers. Once they were pryed out a bit, I took a table vice and and re crimped the whole pinch weld on each side. They actually turned out looking pretty decent. Good luck on yours, just be patient and work on each problem little by little. I look forward to seeing progress.
+Jared thsnks, they always say with paint and bodywork, prep is the most important thing. I'm taking that saying with the whole build too. I'm hoping for a result that I will be proud of for years to come hahaha.
Thanks and will do! I really wanted to get OEM ones, but they are impossible to find in my area. Retro-spec really makes some good quality fiberglass ones.
+Miggz Camacho congrats on the coupe and wow, that's crazy! It's insane to think someone all the way from South Africa is watching my videos and enjoying them! Thanks for the comment!
TheBSRecord hahaha yeah dude it's pretty epic. Also started a little vlog and got a blog going on my website. There is only 2 truenos here in SA so extremely scarce
+Miggz Camacho hahah sounds like Kentucky. all the 86's here in the states are either in Arizona or Cali it seems. I can only think of 2 or 3 I have seen here locally.
Chandler Holzgrefe hahahaha sorry for the delay! I have been out of the country for a bit and just got back this week, so the vids have been slacking. However, I will have another vid out by Friday, promise!
+Shed Life I understand, it's hard having to record everything and edit the videos, but I enjoy the process which definitely helps. Loving the progresses on your 86 as well!
Awesome! A subscriber all the way from Switzerland, that's so cool! Glad you are enjoying the videos, I should have another one posted by this weekend.
Nice! I used nutserts (AKA rivnuts too) on some AE86 interior bits since I needed some threaded holes but don't have a welder or anything; worked well even with the DIY tool! But for body panels I'd have to consider a better method to install them (not all of them installed as straight as I wanted them to) Did I catch you hammering the nutserts after you installed them onto the car? Why is that? Just to make them flush with the body? Looks good though; definitely a good idea to spend a little extra time up front so they're removable if necessary.
+Anthony Watson thanks man! Yeah the tool I got, made them a lot easier to install, but the diy version does work. If you look on amazon they have one that has two bigger handles (like bolt cutters) that is cheaper than the one I got and works well (from the reviews atleast). I was afraid it was just a bit to big for that area I was working on. Yup, I did hammer them in a bit. The nutserts I ordered were hex like on the end. Therefore they didn't "slide smoothly" into the holes. They just needed a little tapping/ persuasion to get them in nice and snug. So before any crimping took place, they were already in the holes, under a little bit of force. It gave me a little more piece of mind, that they wouldn't spin. Thanks for the comment man, I love this kind of discussion in the comment section!
I know this video is old. Stumbled on it on the old C4AG site. Looks like ur still actively working on the 86. Question for you; the side skirt plastic trim, did that come with the skirt or did you purchase it separately? Will be checking out ur other videos!!
Oh man, the old forums! I need to update my build thread there too haha. The trim did come with the side skirts I purchased from retrospec. However, I am fairly confident you can find that same trim on amazon pretty easily. Maybe try searching for "body trim gasket" or something along those lines. Thanks for watching and I hope you like the other videos!
+ThatBrokeLife awesome man, glad to see that you are here as well. So far I have used one big box, I think it is 36 square feet. I've got a couple sq. ft. left over of just random pieces I had to cut offwhen installing.
retrotellephone hahaha the case that has all the corolla parts in it? Got it at a yard sale for like 2 dollars. But, if you want to get specific it's called "Stahlkiste" 90x50x37 cm. Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed it!
I'm not very good with Spanish, but I think you are asking what I used to fill the holes. The threaded pieces are called rivenuts/nutserts and the black stuff is Heavy Bodied Seam Sealer, made by 3M (3M 08308). I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Thanks a bunch! I'm not sure about Home Depot, but I know you can get a tool over at Harbor freight and I would think they would have the inserts too. These things are used to secure sheet metal on fridges and stuff, so home depot might have them. If you can get a hold of the inserts somewhere, all you really need is a nut, bolt and lock washer to install them. I linked a video in the description, in case anyone was interested int hat approach. What are you planing on installing?
Dope, thanks! I have an '87 SR5 with a GTS rearend wap. Currently I'm building the diff, but I was looking at a pair of Rep J-Blood over fenders, as well as a TRD spoiler.
Hahaha yeah I remember, you are the guy with the epic mustache lol! Yeah those nutserts should be the perfect thing to mount those. Make sure to post a video when you do! if you need 10-32 size, shoot me a direct message. I have plenty and can send you some if need be.

Wow, from what I saw in this video your pinch welds looked minty fresh. Great work!
You're doing everything so properly, I love it. Can't wait to see how clean the finished car will be!
+Jared thsnks, they always say with paint and bodywork, prep is the most important thing. I'm taking that saying with the whole build too. I'm hoping for a result that I will be proud of for years to come hahaha.
i realize I'm pretty off topic but does anyone know a good place to watch newly released series online?
@Houston Travis flixportal
Very helpful!!! Now I'm just thinking about getting a side skirt. Love your videos keep it up with the good work!
Thanks and will do! I really wanted to get OEM ones, but they are impossible to find in my area. Retro-spec really makes some good quality fiberglass ones.
yep yep . I'll be looking for some Retro-Spec thank YOU
fun video to watch....made me lol a couple times because I can relate. I might have to use this method when the time comes. thumbs up!
+ae86 - sr5 to gts conversion Thanks a lot man! I glad it was entertaining to watch, I always feel as if I talk to much and ramble in my videos haha.
you don't talk nearly as much as me in my vids....sometimes I'll just start talking and it's already a 5 min clip....hehe...great editing too btw

Thanks man, for the tip! Will do!! You have some great content on here keep it going!!
Hey bro love your videos. I was following your build since you first posted it on Club4ag. How many square feet of dynamat did you use?
+ThatBrokeLife awesome man, glad to see that you are here as well. So far I have used one big box, I think it is 36 square feet. I've got a couple sq. ft. left over of just random pieces I had to cut offwhen installing.
Dude, where did you get that red case?
retrotellephone hahaha the case that has all the corolla parts in it? Got it at a yard sale for like 2 dollars. But, if you want to get specific it's called "Stahlkiste" 90x50x37 cm. Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed it!
TheBSRecord cool find! I’ve seen em around Baja and on few overlanding rigs. I want one bad.
retrotellephone yeah man its super spacious and helpful with keeping the parts sorted 👍 hoping reassembly goes well when I get around to it haha.
Hola soy de Puerto Rico quiero saber q marca es el relleno gracia

Hey man! It's me from over at 86 Mafia, the video was clean man! Can you just pickup the nutserts at like Home Depot or something?

Yes sir, thats me! I deffinitely will look around but the diff is top priority at the moment! Thanks man!
I live in Puerto Rico and here we have tons of ae86 if you ever need some parts contact me
awesome, great to know! Getting parts from where I live, seems almost impossible at times haha.
