A part of Welsh folklore, she is said to be the goddess of fertility and the moon and shunned the chance to marry a god to marry a mortal. For that reason, she was framed for the death of her son and forced to tell the inhabitants of a city that she had murdered him as we say, not your usual scope for a rock song.
I’ve got a cousin who named her daughter after this song. She lives in the USA. People don’t know how to pronounce it. So she is called RiRi in school ☺️
Stevie read a book about a girl being possessed by the spirit of a Witch named Rhiannon and then wrote this song in just a few minutes. Rhiannon is a Welsh Goddess from the Mabinogian, a Welsh religious text. People have always thought Stevie was a Witch, which she denies, but she definitely plays into the archetype. She's a magical being, for sure, as you just saw. She channels Rhiannon when she sings this song.
@heliotropezzz333 I would also caution against using the phrase "channeling Rhiannon" as confusion as to whether the commenter is being figurative or literal since both the subjects of witchcraft and exorcism is mentioned above.
So, in an interview I saw a long time ago Stevie said the reason she wears big, flowy dresses/skirts, twirls around and dances is because she is only 5'2 and at that time of her career was only about 110 lbs. She said she had to think of a way to make herself appear larger on stage. From far away she gets swallowed up in the group because she is so petite. Also, she is a trained ballerina. That is why her movements are so graceful. Stevie wrote this song from a poem she did. So many of her songs are inspired from her poems.
Stevie very carefully crafted her stage persona, with the flowing clothes and the dance moves. It was very effective, drove every guy crazy with lust and every girl crazy with envy. But she wasn't just show, she was a phenomenal singer and writer.
That was her superpower…. all woman worship her where we usually tall poppy tear famous woman down…. but I’ve never heard of ANY female who “hated” her

Greetings from South Africa. Fleetwood Mac is one of the all time legends of music. All the band members are incredible solo artists and musicians unto themselves. A treat is Lindsey Buckingham's live concert performance of "Big Love" leading into "Insane". Just wow! Celtic Myths and Legends are part of Stevie Nicks' vibe. .

I saw her perform in '85 at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake where I was only a few feet from the stage. Her energy flows and is transformative and she truly lets her spirit meld with the music she sings... She's phenomenal as a singer and a person. I'm taller than most (6'5") and reached up above the sea of outstretched arms and she grabbed my hands as she was moving across the front of the stage... I was on cloud 9 for days, not just because "it's Stevie" but because of the whole experience and the energy she carries (ok and she's drop dead gorgeous 😊). She was married to the guitar player with the 'fro, Lindsay Buckingham and they were "Buckingham Nicks" before joining F.M.. The keyboard player, Christy MacVie was married to the bass player, John MacVie. They all got divorced, it got all out of sorts but through it all thry msde Rumors which is a landmark album in rock. The band continued in several iterations over the yesrs but... When Christine passed in 2022 "That ended any chance of the band continuing." per Stevie. 😊❤ Hi Black P! So glad you watched this!! In my humble opinion just know that the passion you just witnessed is inside of her at all times!! She might look restrained and sing softly, but that fire is always present underneath!! Years ago I watched a tv interview with Stevie Nicks. It is inspired by a book she read. It was about women in mythology. It had different stories/myths about women. But it then it also had additional information by the author. Stevie read a story about a Welch Witch named Rhiannon. The song to me is saying that she is so beautiful and wise that she 'put a spell on all men'. The men wanted something they could never have and she is a queen who was not allowed to marry for love. So, her life is just as tragic as all the men who coveted her. The Queen part is from the author's research, indicating that Rhiannon was a real person who was a Queen. Somehow she became a legend and you know how it goes; over time the story evolves where she is remembered for her "enchanting and haunting beauty" She becomes a myth. Hope that helped you! 😅 Stevie Nicks studied ballet for many years. That's where she gets those fluid moves! 😊❤❤

Stevie Nick's is the only woman to be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame twice. Once with Fleetwood Mac and then as a solo artist...just some interesting info
I wrote above this was a cocaine fueled gem! Mick practically had lockjaw and Lindsey was almost paranoid, far less animated than usual. As always Chris McVie seems to calmly hold it all together. Unique chemistry(s) in that band for sure.
OMG! They were high?! Most Rock Singers and Artists did drugs in the 70s and 80s. It definitely didn't effect Stevie ability to write and sing great hits.
Stevie's voice is great, although I think her voice got better as she got a little older. All their songs were great, but my favorite song is Landslide.
Stevie was such a beast she wrote the song Silver Springs ....fabulous song..about her ex Lindsey Buckingham and he had to play guitar on it while she sang it. Fleetwood Mac stalling the release in 79 and not allowing Stevie to release it on her album had repercussions to the band.
This is a rehearsal tape for their appearance on The Midnight Special show. There is another version of the actual aired performance. Worth checking out. I like both. Yes, music legends. Very special. Iconic.

@@evedavey2475 People were allowed to be androgynous in the 70s and dress however they wanted without having to have surgery or different pronouns to be themselves. We've lost a real sense of freedom and acceptance.
@@kdm71291 She wears flowing white dresses so people aren't afraid of her. In the early Rumors days, lots of people were saying she was a Witch and she was getting strange letters that made her fear she was going to be kidnapped, so she toned it down for a while. She said she spent a fortune on black dresses then couldn't wear them because people were afraid of her. People are so ridiculous, I hate that she ever has to inhibit herself.
The story of Rhiannon can be found in the Mabinogion, which is the mythology of the Welsh. Stevie Nicks is a Wiccan, so much of her public persona illustrates that.
You HAVE to listen, and watch, the live version of "The Chain"! Pay close attention to how they look at each other. This was a tour that they had to endure right after they broke up with each other.
Stevie has the same persona when she is performing live. Does not smile and has an aura of mystery. She is mesmerizing to see. The group's name came from the drummer Mick Fleetwood. Sadly, Christine McVie who played the keyboard and was backup singer, passed away earlier this year. Love, love, love Fleetwood Mac!! *Music trivia from Lyn*
A lot of people think Stevie is the lead singer for Fleetwood Mac when there's three singers that share lead, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie Lindsey Buckingham. One of my favorites with Lindsey Buckingham is "Go Your Own Way", from their 1997 Dance tour live. The combination of Lindsey's guitar, the drums & bass, sounds amazing
There has actually always been a mysterious/mystical component to Fleetwood Mac's music, although there were at least 3 separate eras of the band. The early Peter Green blues based era had songs like The Green Manalishi and Black Magic Woman. The middle Bob Welch based era had songs like Hypnotized and Future Games. And the Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham era had songs like Rhiannon, Gypsy, Crystal and Dreams.
Stevie Nicks has always been into the "gypsy" scene. She has done performances for soldiers & veterans in the past as a way to thank them. She has always been mysterious and enchanting, and smokin'!
Little Stevie Nicks aka The White Witch. I was 11 years old and I was watching a Fleetwood Mac live performance when suddenly I became aware of my own sexually. lololololol
The name comes from the drummer, Mick Fleetwood and John and Christine McVie, who were married until the early seventies…..Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined the band in about that time period and were also a couple who had been making music….and they had just broken up. Other than the previously mentioned Mick on drums, the others are as such: John on bass, Christine on keyboards and lead vocals, Lindsey on guitar and lead vocals and Stevie on lead vocals. Check out their legendary album “Rumors”….it’s full of great songs that are a result of the dysfunctional relationships within the group, which included Mick Fleetwood in kind of a third party role….man, did that make for good music!
Stevie Nicks is so badass!!! Just love her! Such a presence! Her voice is so sexy and love her aura! Would love if you checked out LISA FISHER....Live in Japan singing HOW CAN I EASE THE PAIN. Her vocals are Insane!! And PINK...Live at AMA's singing BEAUTIFUL TRAUMA...She performs on the side of the Hilton Hotel. Crazy!!!!!! Love your channel and wait for your videos.
Stevie was also highly addicted Klonopin.
Stevie's voice is great, although I think her voice got better as she got a little older. All their songs were great, but my favorite song is Landslide.
Gold Dust Woman
Silver Springs is my favorite ! The 1997 version where they are performing on stage is great. Stevie Nicks voice!
She can sing anything!!! All her music is great!! With Fleetwood Mac or on her own! Always great!!!
This is a rehearsal tape for their appearance on The Midnight Special show. There is another version of the actual aired performance. Worth checking out. I like both. Yes, music legends. Very special. Iconic.
This is one of my fav Fleetwood Mac's songs.. I love Stevie's voice in this song and grew up listening to these tunes!
Stevie is the GOAT
Always love your innocence. But have you ever spoken of a person’s aura before? She does that to people. Such a presence.
I miss the 70s ❤ i wanna get into a time machine and go back ❤ i miss the great music and life was totally different. Men were men and women were women . Everything now is upside-down ❤
@@evedavey2475 People were allowed to be androgynous in the 70s and dress however they wanted without having to have surgery or different pronouns to be themselves. We've lost a real sense of freedom and acceptance.
I'm so glad you covered this one this is the best one ever
Agreed, most do the midnight special version. It's almost as good, but this one has a little extra intensity to it.
My daughter's middle name is Rhiannon because I love this song so much.
Stevie has been called “The White Witch”, because she is kind of mystical and entrancing and usually Wears long, flowing white dresses.
@@Morgaine
I never thought of that term as being negative…..after all, there are good witches, you know. 😉
@@kdm71291 Yes, I do know that. 🧹 I also know there are crazy people in the world who will harm a person even suspected of being a Witch.
Agreed
Stevie has the same persona when she is performing live. Does not smile and has an aura of mystery. She is mesmerizing to see. The group's name came from the drummer Mick Fleetwood. Sadly, Christine McVie who played the keyboard and was backup singer, passed away earlier this year. Love, love, love Fleetwood Mac!! *Music trivia from Lyn*
Christine and Stevie were good friends.
Christine McVie sang lead on Songbird, my personal favorite Fleetwood Mac song. The talent was deep.
The name came from Peter Green, he named it after the rhythm section he wanted, Mick F and John McVie.
😂Lol!! That's ridiculous! Stevie IS Fleetwood Mac... They were nothing before her. That's a fact. Peace and light.💞
Fleetwood Mac *"Rumours"* one of the best albums ever recorded.
An education in itself. Great for reactions - or just your own listening.
One of the best songs.... Stevie Nicks is so good that her voice just hits your soul
Stevie Nicks has always been into the "gypsy" scene. She has done performances for soldiers & veterans in the past as a way to thank them. She has always been mysterious and enchanting, and smokin'!
Little Stevie Nicks aka The White Witch. I was 11 years old and I was watching a Fleetwood Mac live performance when suddenly I became aware of my own sexually. lololololol
Studio version is a must to listen to
Stevie and Fleetwood Mac are a deep dive that will hypnotize you, and make you keep coming back.
HUGS & GOOD LUCK on all the changes!! You'll be SO RELIEVED when it's "all done & sorted", BP!! THANKS for your wonderful reactions!!
Stevie Nicks is a Welsh Witch and used to practice actively and she def is tapped into some other level of creativity 🤘✌️😎🧐
She made a point to say she, herself, is not a witch as some fans believe
It's the right video Mick Fleetwood(drummer) always said watching Stevie perform Rhiannon it was like watching an exorcism.
Go Yor own Way ..... from the same concert/set is absolutely awesome
Stevie is my White witch Queen ❤❤
Comes to life every 1000 years to possess a new lover
Would love if you checked out
LISA FISHER....Live in Japan singing HOW CAN I EASE THE PAIN. Her vocals are Insane!! And
PINK...Live at AMA's singing BEAUTIFUL TRAUMA...She performs on the side of the Hilton Hotel. Crazy!!!!!!
Love your channel and wait for your videos. Lol Your very real and genuine. I appreciate that you are open minded to all different music & artists as well as reading our comments & hearing your audience. Most reactors ignore our suggestions and ask for $50 a song!!
"Say You Love Me" and "Everywhere". Both sung by Christine McVie.
Stevie spazzes out on many of her songs…..for example Sisters of the Moon is a classic example! 👍
Amazing performance. Stevie rules
She also has duet with Don Henley of the Eagles. I forget what the song is called. Something Lace.
Leather and Lace ❤❤❤
Leather and Lace, another great song ❤
I named my Husky dog after this song! Nakita Rhiannon❤ I miss her! ❤
Teenager in the 70's and in love with Stevie (as everyone was)!!
