Ice Cube stayed in the hood after he became successful, because he wanted to prove how "real" he was to the community by not selling out... i.e., "Be True to the Game." After he got robbed a few too many times, he bailed and moved to the snow... and I don't blame him. You can love your people from a distance.

The few rare successful and unsuccessful want white women. Careless if she runs off with their cash. They only care if she's not black lol.

Elliott Morris I think black women are calling light-skinned women "white" or "mixed" these days. They don't want to compete with them, so they're kicking them out of the race.

Being flashy brings all the wrong attention and once the cat is out of the bag your problems multiply. Being low key keeps your stress level to a minimum and also from being a target.

I really despise the stereotype that because a black man is successful that we MUST drive and wear our money. Doing that gives us too much unwanted attention. It also shows a level of insecurity, to think or feel that you have to look a certain way to be recognized or the desire of regonition. For what? I don't have to impress anyone.

I had this white dude in my physics class who use to joke with me by saying I got in on affirmative action. I didn't sweat him because I know who I am and how I got here. We use to talk everyday in class until he happened to see my test score. I had 100% in red on my test, he took one look at, then looked at me. I said jokingly," how bout that affirmative action". He never spoke to me again even though I had him in at least one class every semester for the next 3 years.

the main reason to stay a successful, low-key black man is because you will have all types of people coming up to you with their hand out feeling you owe them something even after moments in which those same people dogged you out & shamed you in your endeavors to be successful.
Another reason is being flashy and a show off will earn you the attention of someone wanting to take advantage of you, so it's wise to be low-key and unassuming.
I hate to say this, but if you're a black man that doesn't fit the stereotype then a lot of people including black people will look at you as if you have issues.

When I was growing up, successful Black men were often quite flashy and showy. That was OK then, because people were different. Today, that kind of behavior can get you harassed or killed. It is best to hold your cards close to the vest.

Most flashy successful black men are usually those who are in entertainment, sports, streets, e.t.c. Rarely do you see successful black men who made their money outside of entertainment, sports, streets, hustle, or illegally, flash their money. You can also tell by their dressing. The non flashy guys typically dress very simple and drive regular or decent luxury cars, nothing to grab attention.

Our blk sisters may think low of those trades men but not non black women, since half of them were raised by men in the trades. Most of our sisters were raised by Pokies and Ray Rays, so don't know any better or how much they make. Not unusual for plumbers, electricians, HVAC, roofers, builders, e.t.c , to take home over half a million in high brow areas on new construction projects.

I think what differentiates Jews & Italians from blacks is because of how they value hard work and traditional values. Yes, you are supposed to help them but not in financing. I think getting them opportunities (example like a job) and access (networking) would be much better. Giving them money is not sustainable.

MAN this is real. I peeped Game a long time ago & learned that "peacocking" (showing off) will get the tax man on yo ass, or get you set up to 'get got' in the hood, or cause you to lose business (because sometimes *white folks* would rather do business with *a black man* if they think you're struggling vs successful).
There was a rap lyric back in the day "The strong move quiet, the weak start riots". But My favorite quote of almost 20 yrs is by Tupac -
*"Once a muh' fugga gets an understanding of the Game, and what the Levels and the Rules of the Game is... the world ain't a trick no 'mo, THE WORLD IS A GAME TO BE PLAYED"*

It's hard to get your Mufassa on when you're hanging with a bunch of Scars. It seems like most black people hate success, and think god or Jesus is going to drop off success on their door step like a UPS package. Any type of success leaves you trapped. If you talk about it, you're bragging. If you don't talk about it and people find out, people feel entitled to your success and try to leach off of you. I'd rather be quiet and successful. No Instagram, no Facebook, No Twitter. Just get money and enjoy life.

I have a few dudes from my neighborhood that. I used to hang out with when I was doing ok for myself in the 30-40k range. When I stopped hanging out and focused on me my annual income increased dramatically. I used to by Gucci and Louis back then. I appeared to have the type of money back then that I have now. The only difference is now I wear older clothes on a daily basis and I look like an average joe. I even drive a cash car. But, my house is incredible. I have people coming back telling me that these guys are speaking my name collectively and all of them are at 4-10 years older than me. My life changed for the better and they got bitter. I just budgeted my time and my money better. I changed the things that I was feeding my mind and got focused. They hate me because, "everything that I am is everything they will never be" -T.I.

As a Blackman who's now in his early 30's was always taught by my father and other father figures that showing off and being overly flamboyant can lead you to a early grave....I've hung around people that are liquid to the point where being concerned about not having money is a afterthought....the problem with some of our brothers when comes to money is that alot of us come from nothing and we're not used to having exorbitant amounts of money...that means we're susceptible to being preyed upon by people in and outside the blk community.....

Just be low key and make your moves quietly. You will attract like minded people. Like attracts like. It’s as simple as that.

i went to this bar/lounge once for the first time, just to have a drink. and i kept noticing this guy sitting at a table by himself. he had on jeans, a tee shirt, and tennis shoes. dingy almost. wasn’t really talking to anybody. but, i just thought his quiet, loner demeanor was so sexy. he had such a mystery about him that i asked the bartender about him. she went and spoke to him. all of a sudden he came and sat beside me at the bar. after talking for a moment he told me that he was the owner, lol. (as a side business). he grabbed my check and balled it up. we started dating after that. he drove a ford truck and always dressed like that even on dates. he owned foreign vehicles and his home was enormous and elegant. and on the flip side their was a regular who would always come in that same bar with layers and layers of chains and always throwing money in the air, buying up the bar. my boyfriend at the time shared with me that the money he was throwing in the air was like all the money he had. lol. real wealth is sooo quiet.

Most blk women will overlook him and make assumptions about him, like you almost did but eventually got to know him. That's the biggest issue our women have with picking men, they focus on facade or impressions, rather than getting to know the person. Most successful men operate in that fashion and only women who was raised by one, been around similar type of men or dated one, will see potential.

I can speak on this all too well. It boils down to our people in general are "Opportunistic Consumer" minded people. The orderly "Productive" minded black man has to lay low because they don't see you as someone who can improve the community, they see you as an Opportunity to GET SOMETHING. They don't value the process in producing fruit, just the fruit and the shortcuts to get it. If you are successful as a black man, Protection is a must, and blending in with the rest keeps the wolves off.

There's so much truth in this video it's crazy. Being from the DMV and the number of successful brothas I personally know from working in I.T is crazy. Most of them are modest dudes who drive a humble vehicle and are about their business. Like my boy just got that genesis g80. Beautiful luxury vehicle priced decently in low 40k range used. Women ain't rocking with him because it's not a "Benz" its a "Hyundai". Or they clown us for going out to network and play golf. "were trying to be white" some people would say. I wear jeans some work boots and they think I'm poor or something. That's not the case. Some of the server rooms I've been to you need good footwear not dress shoes. This is true AF, but to tell the truth its not just exclusive to the black community. This is just what comes with success. Now the reason that a lot of athletes and entertainers ball out and are flashy when they get money is because they don't build money it usually happens over night that they go from broke to rich. Yes, they have been working hard at their craft but the money did not come over time it came quick and fast so they don't know how to act or appreciate it when they get it.

^^I'm aware. LOL, the title says it all. But I just personally don't think you said anything specifically unique to Black men.
Every single one of these points apply to me as a Black female. And they apply to all types of people who want to keep away leeches.

^^There was one point though that differed along gender/dating. Men have more pressure to hide success while dating because they need to avoid gold diggers.
Women have to hide it more because, it might intimidate some men if they think you aren't going to respect their manhood because you seem successful on paper.

Sista I've been around very successful Black women my entire adult life. There's nothing low-key about them. This video is SPECIFIC to MEN. This is a MEN'S channel. There are NUMEROUS channels that cater to the issues faced by Black women. You need to find one of those channels. Any further comments you make on this matter will be deleted.

^^^LOL. Yeah, I can tell you have been raised around women since you are in your feelings to the point that you can't even handle a simple discussion without being emotional and bringing up deletion. Childish. Crazy, ain't it I thought we were the emotional ones. LOL Additionally, no one said that being low key applied to ALL women. Flamboyance is gender neutral hon.
How immature if you think women should only listen to channels focused on women. Or vice versa. You can learn something from anyone. Knowledge is power. Some of my biggest mentors are men.

You have to remember how people treated you when you were at the bottom because that's them showing true colors. Leave them alone when you make. Blacks at my job all act like they are too good to speak to each other. They think by disrespecting other blacks it makes them a higher class or some dumb shit like that. I still say hello to any of my folks I see and they enjoy ignoring as if they don't see me. Everyday I go home and read self teaching. Once things change they start to take notice and I'll just watch them pretend and let them think they are getting somewhere and just waste their time.

Rom Wills great topic you got on for sure. Before watching this video I was torn down the middle on what I'll be doing as my finances double and triple. Part of me wanted to be cool and let my folks know I got gifts and be positive but most of my folks don't know me right now. Having success is best when you have folks to share it with but if they have bad intentions it's best to keep it simple. If you get a 100k Benz you can also get it keyed. Everybody want to you to taxi them in the 100k Benz. Now I completely understand why people with money walk in the airport all fast with a hat and glasses. They don't feel like dealing with the fakers and staying low key like you said.

There is a time for, "...do not let your right hand know what your left hand, is doing..."
and, there is a time for, "Let your light, so shine, before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father, in heaven." Discernment.

My team flipped 30 houses and flipping 16 houses right now. Some of do have somewhat flashy cars buts thats it. Years ago I bought my dream car, a Porsche Turbo. Not to show off but because Im a legit car guy and enjoyed the driving experience. At a certain age showing off is pointless. It attracts both good and bad attention.

Listening to this reminds me of the barrel crabs. I had a conversation many years ago with a female about when people get successful they are supposed to help others. I told her no one is obligated to do anything. I reminded her (according to her whe went to church every Sunday) if God shows me one guy becoming successful why can't I do it as well? In the black community we need to stop being barrel crabs and be more like ants. If you see a successful person congradulate them on their success and keep your nose to the grind. Your day will come.

Rom. I've recently started listening to your channel. Great work man! Great work indeed! I don't make 6 figures, but I hold my own, and the pocket watching is real brotha! I stay out in a rural area with no neighbors now because of it. Out of their sight. Out of their mind.

Family is family! Don't spend a fortune on helping them but as long as they are family, you gotta help them. Help them when they are really in need not when they just need to spend it on some flashy.

TO ALL, SOME BLACK MEN DOES NOT WISHES TO LET OTHERS PEOPLE KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE PERIOD. I LIVE IN A SPANISH COMMUNITY AND YOU ALL KNOW THEY DO NOT LIKE BLACK PEOPLE AND I DRESS LIKE A REGULAR PERSON. WHEN I GOT MORE WEALTH . ANYWAY, IS GOOD TO LET PEOPLE DOES NOT KNOW YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. THIS SPANISH WOMAN AT THE BANK GAVE ME HER BUSINESS CARD, I NEVER CALLED HER.

I love a lowkey simply dressed dude... I like guys in beautiful African clothes too... but I'm not into a flashy dude, the flashy loud dude usually is the least powerful in the room. (I'm excluding the entertainment clothing, referencing the average confident guy)
