Oh Emma, your enthusiasm is contagious! I love your approach to life. Thank you for being you, and sharing so much joy with us all 💖 Your plots are looking great. I hope you get a wonderful harvest later in the season xx
So love the way you talk to the lovely birds and the war on slugs and snails keep it up I'm in New Zealand and I will be planting out some lovely veggies and flowers have a great day
Hiya Emma, I love watching your videos. I found slug traps worked brilliantly in my garden. I had quite a few and it really made a difference as it was unbelievable to see all the slugs and snails appear at dusk. Good Luck getting rid of the little blighters.

I use cheap beer, put in plastic container with a hole in the lid. Then bury it up to the lid. The yeast in the beer attracts them and they drown. I put them around the garden.
Have to add another comment. Your two plots are fabulous. So much hard work that you’ve done is paying off Taking us all on your gardening journey is so lovely thanks Emma truly appreciate it 🤩
They are indeed so resorted this year to the blue pelletes as I've had enough of them destroying everything. I know they are bad for wildlife, but they are also bad for my plants. By getting up early I put most of the dying snails and slugs in a bucket of water to finish them off. Hopefully the drier weather will keep them away going forward.
Have you thought of copper strips around your plants, beds. It naturally gives off a very mild electric current which slugs/snails really dislike. It won't kill them but deter them.
Hi Emma this will help you with the slugs 🐌 and snails 🐌 I saw this on line make your own spray all you need is 1whole garlic 30mi of washing up liquid peal the garlic place it in a mixer and chop it up add a little water pour in to a jug add 30mi of washing up liquid add 750 mi of water stir then strain through a fine mesh to get the bits out so it will not block your spray bottle spray all your plants the slugs and snails won’t come near spray once or twice a week or after rain then your plants will grow and then you harvest it works for me good luck
I have a new plot and the slugs have started to eat my new plants. I have only tried the beer traps (cheap beer in disposable plastic containers sunk in the middle or any corner or my beds, the following morning I saw lots drown and dead, not a bad RIP for them, they were probably tipsy, happy, anaesthetised by the little alcohol. I dont know how long I’ll be buying beers, hence, now I’ve netted my beds.
Last year I went out in the evening with my headtorch and removed the slugs and snails. This year they are not a problem 😊l like the Tarzan(Jane?) impression 😂
Slugs, snails I do collect in a relatively flat container, then put the container near a bird feeder. Same with cutworms, other annoying destructive animals. That way the birds deal with them, I don't. For some reason slugs don't seem to like dry old coffee grounds, which I always have. Bonus is those coffee grounds are high in nitrogen so I gain twice over. Yes, slugs and snails feed on dying or dead soft leaves and such.
Dang slugs! Lately when I find something somewhere that I don't want it, I've been saying "excuse me, you are not invited" and then yeet it off into oblivion lol. I've been doing this with inanimate objects, too, though... not always yeeting them off, but talking to them. But I mean honestly... why is that thing or that bug in my business? Go away... you were not invited to my current activity! That's how I'd be with the slugs, too... just throwing them and telling them to get the heck outta here lol.
Hello Emma, good to watch you. How did the inspection of allotments go? Did your number posts hold-up? Curious to hear abt that. What is the inspection about actually? I am watching from South Africa. I have no idea how allotments work. It will interesting to learn from you Emma.
staple 1" copper tape to the wood bed borders. There's a chemical reaction when the slugs and snails try to cross over it that they REALLY don't like, similar to being zapped. They will turn around and stay away.
We had loads eating our new plants. Best thing to use is BEER TRAPS. They love beer, any beer undiluted. You can buy them online. Good luck. Great vlog as always.
For the problem with the slugs, you should get a small plastic tub and fill it with beer. We caught twenty slugs just last night! They loved the taste! good luck.
Hey Emma, I had the same problem with slugs and snails, I found that by adding half a cup of white vinegar to about 2 litres of water in a bucket and dropping them in it when picking them all off my plants killed them immediately afterwards I just poured the dead snails out somewhere for the wildlife to eat, the vinegar won't hurt other wild things but certainly gets rid of the little slithery slimey brats 😊
You need some snips to cut foliage off really. Great for snipping slugs in two as well. The side on tree, email the council as they really need to remove it for you. As you’re a tenant, they’re intimately responsible for your site and the safety of everyone there.
Where's Rocky?? Gone but not forgotten... I'm wondering how much a few cabbages and sprouts cost compared to cinnamon, slug pellets, compost, seedlings, fertiliser etc...
Beer traps, crushed oyster shells, pine shavings as mulch as well as the wool pellets and slugo pelets(ESCAR-GO from Gurney's).Keep fighting the good fight Emma.
I think people keep giving her all kinds of things to try but she just keeps doing the same things over and over even though it's clearly not working. I don't get it.
I’ve tried all of the things suggested over the years and vlogged most of them. There’s no one magic way of getting rid of them I’m afraid, it’s always an ongoing battle. I just like to share my frustrations in the hope it makes others who are also struggling know they aren’t alone. It can be very disheartening when slugs eat everything and I want people to know that I’m also battling them! Xx
@@emmasallotmentdiaries I’m sorry you have so much trouble with them! I hope you can find something that works! I’ve just never seen anybody battle them like you before so that’s why people keep suggesting things. They don’t know what you’ve tried and what you haven’t.
My allotment space is very peaceful too just the little birds So tranquil. Wish everyone knew tbh it’s hard work but we all need to stop & take a breath & appreciate what we have achieved or celebrate the wilder spaces too 🤩
Why are you not squishing those slugs. I'm no expert but I would think they would just make their way back into your garden. I've really been enjoying your videos. Watching them from Massachusetts .
I don't have an allotment because I have a long garden that I've taken a portion of for veg beds. I feel the same as you trying to keep it all protected.
I agree with you about that tree! Although it looked like it barely moved when you went hanging from it 😆 But it does look really odd the way it has grown. Nematodes might be the way forward to tackle the slugs long term. I have noticed lots of slugs and snails in my garden this year too, I also agree that it is because of the weather. I love your blog! It never fails to make me smile 😄🌸🦋🐝 Your hard work at your allotment is paying off, it is looking really good!
The Era's Tour will be in Wembley next month and again in August. Maybe if you write to Tay she'll come and visit the allotment, or even write a song about you and Einstein .
5:26 The fact that the slugs were out in the open in the daytime and you could just pick them up suggests to me like the slug pellets were working. I suspect those slugs were probably dying.
Beer traps is another good one which I’m attempting tomorrow(Thursday) So get some beer into a container and burry the container just outside your plants etc.and pour the beer in.I’m going to a wee vid on it tomorrow.
Worried about slugs, try operating an aquaponics system. Can’t use snail pallets… though I did use an organic Iron based pallet this year. The company said they weren’t safe for aquaponics but I used the anyway, slugs are immense. Could pull over 100 off every night. And there were just as many the next night… until…..
Here in the Pacific Northwest of US I have found egg shells work well to deter snails and slugs. They don't seem to like to move over the sharp edges of the shells. They don't need to be big pieces but not powdered either. I clean them and then dry them for about an hour on a low temp in the oven and then put them where I don't want the snails and slugs to go. Maybe you could try that on one of your beds and see how it works for you. Good luck!

They are the only snails I have in my yard. I have never had them damage any of my plants. I’m not sure if they eat slugs though.
Slug guards from Amazon! Do they help - yes. Do they cure the problem - no. But my plants that I do use them on perform better than ones that don’t. Particularly when they’re tiny seedlings.
It’s looking great. Those critters will be living and breeding under those wooden logs and bed boards that are lying flat that you have around your garden.

But surely if they are only in 2 to 4 spoonfuls in a few places then the slugs and snails will just go through the untreated areas which will be most of the bed 🤔
I don't have many slugs or snails, I grow various brassicas, various beans, various flowers, and courgettes. I do have a garden surrounded by trees which may have a lot more birds to eat the slugs/snails. However, I don't have boards around my beds, which someone alredy mentioned. Maybe it helps?

I have seen that other gardeners put the slugs from their plots into their compost. They help to break down the vegetation and leave your veg alone.
Good idea! Need to sort out my compost areas first I think! Job for the autumn x
I have found the putting out table salt on the ground stopped slugs getting to plants etc
It kills slugs. But does damage the soil
