Comment? Yeah. I'm absolutely getting something from this series. Every episode is a total tweak to the mind. Breaking open new pathways and ideas, lesson by lesson. Thank You
I have been wracking my brain trying to wrap my head around arpeggio shapes on guitar, and have always been stumped when it came to sweeping with the right hand and doing single note per string bridges with the left hand. I never thought to skip strings!!! Holymoly! You have opened a whole hallway of creative doors for me with this video! Thank you for analyzing the greats and distilling down their techniques into understandable bits for us. Instant subscribe!
I always have an image of you just being in a pub, fairly quiet and laid back and finding yourself stepping in for a musician, and people being like we'll who's this guy.. and proceeding to just melt faces!! Only discovered you about 2 months ago and you're in my top guitar sources, all videos are so informative and helpful! You're an awesome dude!!
Thx for the mind-blowing,eye-opening lessons. These have got me waaaay out of my comfort zone but, have expanded & improve my playing.they give me alot of motivation & inspiration.Your playing is amazing 😁 🤙
You are awesome sir do you give private online lessons? I've been looking at lessons on UA-cam for years but I really dig your Vibe man it's awesome the way you play
Are you alternate picking or just down picking amazing work man even your magazine articles are great I had no idea how many I had read till I realized you wrote them
Man, that's great to hear and thanks so much for checking out the GP lessons - I'm VERY proud of that work. As far as the picking for these ideas, I'm generally using alternate picking, but over the years I've moved away from "strict" alternate picking, which really opened my picking hand up to accept unusual picking patterns and approaches for certain licks and things. I used to pick everything using strict alternate picking, but certain licks and phrases (such as these string skipped ideas) felt funny, so I modified the way I was picking them and it became smoother and felt more natural for certain things. I guess it really just depends on what I'm playing and the sound/style I'm after. Play around with it, but you can generally use alternate picking for these ideas, but you might have to modify things as you move around. I guess it really depends on how much legato you're using and how the arpeggio is being performed/sequenced too. Good luck and thanks again! : )
Brilliant lesson again David - you've helped re kindle my desire to improve and continue to be creative with my playing . How do I sing up on your Patreon page ??? Also will this include TABs for ALL your lessons ( 3 for All , Chord Play , Licks of ...etc ???)
Hey Richard! I will begin posting/sharing the tabs for most of these lessons on Patreon soon, so you should see them available in the next week or so. Thanks again and rock on! : )
Thank you so much Richard - that's great! I just posted PDF files on Patreon a few moments ago for Breaking Chords and Scales & Tales. I'll create a Three-For-All master file soon, but I had some issues with how the files were organized by the PDF creator/editor website. I had them arranged in order, but when they made the master PDF the files were arranged alphabetically - which is not what I wanted. I'll figure it out and hopefully, future PDF posts will make more sense and not be arranged/grouped in such a weird way. Thank you again and take care! : )
Hi David , love these cool lessons - thank you , have you got plans to look at melodic minor blended with pentatonic scale ? only a friend of mine introduced me to this and it really is helpful ( I thought for those George Lynch / Warren De Martini kinda ideas ?
I'm not really sweep picking these, as I usually employ some alternate picking movement when string-skipping, but I have seen video/footage of me playing live and I've noticed that sometimes I do use one picking direction (sometimes), which looks like I'm sweeping, but I'm really just moving between the strings and picking the same direction, but not using the "rake" attack like you do when you sweep across the strings. I used to pick everything using strict alternate picking, but over the years I've slowly mixed things up and noticed that I prefer playing certain things without the strict approach, especially if I'm playing an accented melodic phrase, various string bending licks, blues phrases, and other phrasing that is outside of the stock rock/shred world.
Hello! I do make the tabs for some of these lessons available on my Patreon page for LNL supporters. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more material!
