Sunshine before a rainy day

- We got some rain just after the last video and that meant grass is growing away again. Back to sunshine after that and catching up on reseeding, fertiliser, and calf vaccines.
But the rain started again before this video was finished. Just in time to help the new grass seeds germinate and to help the fertiliser wash in on the established grass swards.
There's also a look at how the cattle got on grazing the long grass but that's only the first part of this research story.
I hope you get the growing weather you need. The cows and calves look pretty good. Cheers from Bailieboro, Ontario, 🇨🇦
It is sunny here today.
I'm nearly 70 years of age, farming 60 and I never thought that a Jersey would go over fat. I keep saying that we learn something new every day. I never had a Jersey and please God I never will. Ha Ha. Great video again.
She’s the first and last Jersey-cross here too 😀
Little bit of knowledge, your first cross jersey off any cow will do quiet well but other than that why anyone ever decided to bring that horrible breed into Ireland we'll never know, horrible miserable looking animals
Would you consider topping the far off knock, give it a right good chance to come back with fresher grass?
In the process of buying a topper so hopefully I’ll get plenty topping done soon
@@sullivansfarm That would be a great investment Kieran, clean up paddocks and promoting fresh regrowth.
Best of luck with it. 🍀
I would always make sure to have the calves done at least once and preferably twice with clostridal vaccine before I let them out to grass Kieran,it's a little bit safer but that's just my opinion.
Yes, they have it in their system before they go to grass. Safer to vaccinate first.
Hoping to rear calves and sell them as yearling wondering what you think of that idea also what do ya do off farm
I considered selling a few as yearlings myself but had plenty grass so chickened out. Probably a few quid out of them if they winter well. You’d be selling at the right time too as fellas look for summer grazing cattle. I work off-farm for the local college in Waterford (now called SETU) 3 days/week. In an IT research group
I tried bolus for the first time this year.and I think the calves are looking better than usual
Hahaha where in Waterford are e.
About 2 miles from Kill, not far from the garden centre
O right not far from me so I'm in dungravan up the road only
Why do you roll it 🤔 to mix it into the soil is it ???
Gives a better contact between the seed and the soil. Makes it a bit harder for crows to pick the seed too
