omg I just realized, after many times watching this, that Omashu was carved by earth bending out of the same mountain where the lovers met. Oma literally took what divided the villagers and made it unite them. It is the symbol of their love, but also the physical site of it, representing their romantic love but also their mutual love of peace. without both of these loves, Omashu may have never existed.

I'm not a person who enjoys love stories, but this is a tale I absolutely love. It is so sweet, so simple, and shows a true love between a man and a woman despite the fact it was forbidden. When the man died, the woman, Oma knew she didn't want what had happened to her, to happen to anyone else because of a petty war between their villages. Her love for Shu, that she did not kill anyone on either side, showed just how much love she had for the man. She could've even killed her own family with his should she have let her rage control her. But she didn't. That is something I know I'd have a hard time doing, as I am not one to forgive so easily. Her love, outgrew her hate. In this story, during a very dark moment in her life, her love for Shu burned so bright and loud, that she declared the war over instead of just massacring them all. I have the highest respects for Oma, as she let love have the final say in the end...

    The whole story :
A long time ago when the world was still young, there was a mountain that divided tow villages. One day a man from the eastern village climed the mountain, and when he reached the top, he met a woman from the western village. The villages were enemies so they could not be together. But their love was strong and they found a way. The two lovers learned earthbending from the badger moles. They became the first earthbenders. They built elaborate tunnels so they could meet secretly. Everyone who tried to follow them would be lost forever in the labyrinth. Then one day thr man didnt come. He had died in the war between the two villages. Devastated, the woman unleashed a terrible display of her erathbending power. She could have destroyed them all... but instead she declared the war over. Both villages help her build a city where they could live together in peace. The womans name was Oma and the mans name was Shu. The great city was named Omashu as a monument of their love. In the crave, there is a shrine, where the couple now lies beside one another. And carved into the stone are these words : ,,Love burns brightest in the dark."

Legend of Korra really confused us about the origins of humanity lol. But, it's possible that Oma and Shu were really the first humans to learn (true) earthbending, and might have even been Wan's earthbending teachers.
I'd really love to see an Avatar Wan spin-off series to help clarify this stuff.

from what i remember many were given the gift but they died. their descendants sometimes didn;t know how to use their powers and they learned from badger moles. Like Katara had to learn Water bending by herself since there were no other benders in the southern water tribe.

    • @leonsilver6946

They were the fist earthbender cause they know "HOW TO" bend earth. Those people who were granted the power of earth by the lionturtle are just people who have that power and dont know how to use it properly. Its just like I have a violin, but i don't know how to play it. So I have to find a teacher to learn "HOW TO" play the violin.

However, the world has to show some development, so there's just a different feel to it, thats all (steampunk china). And also the series is aimed at an older audience, so it can;t have the same kid avatar vibe to it.
