The Thanos we should see in Avengers Secret Wars should be a version of Thanos who won in Endgame. A one who teared down his reality in order to make a new one. After making a new one there was finally peace. But his world got taken away from him when Doom created battle world. Thanos wants to help the Avengers to save his reality

This blurred line between Doom being a new big bag on screen and just a naughty variant of Tony stark just feels so cheap and like it’s going to ultimately ruin Dooms first on screen marvel appearance

Same here. Doom is supposed to be *the* big bad but instead of a proper introduction to von doom we're getting a money grab return of RDJ. Just give us the real deal. I'm sure there's going to be some sort of twist but on the surface it seems half baked.
I know we don't know how its going to play out yet, so best thing to do is just wait and find out. BUT, I do still feel like Secret Wars is happening too soon, I'm just hoping Marvel resolve the stories with the characters they have atm before they're recast and everything is rebooted.

I like Colton's idea about a remorseful Thanos. The thing I like most about "What If...?" Thanos is that story shows how great and good T'Challa was.

They have said exactly that. RDJ will not be a version of Tony Stark as Victor Von Doom but actually Victor Von Doom but he just looks like Tony Stark.
I don’t want to see a variant either and rather this be straight up, true Victor Von Doom but Marvel also said you won’t need to watch the Disney+ shows to keep up with the larger cinematic stories not to mention the trailer fakeouts they’ve pulled. So…yeah I dunno.
Man I wish they had gotten Mads Mikkelsen to play Doom. RDJ is great, but we need fresh blood.

"...bringing back yet another character..." Dude, this is the comics on the big screen; they ALWAYS bring back characters. The challenge is to do so in a way that it doesn't seem like a re-hash, but rather a continuation of the life stories of those characters.

Can we just drop the idea that Doom is a version of tony stark , that really really reduces the the character to a very small niche. Doom by himself is a HUGE villain and making him a version of tony stark will do nothing . Downey should just play Doom as Doom and not a STARK variant, he should never lose his mask ( that completely destroys Doom's character ) , maybe a crack like in the comics to reveal a minuscule scar but if he completely removes his mask and we get a nostalgia tour of iron man then that will be very cheap and disheartening , just purely cheap writing.
There will be an ironman-like character on the multiversal avengers most definitely ( due to the audience's love for flying metal men that shoot lasers and rockets ) , just revising the good old days is not a new script , it's just a script saying " Heyyyy , do you remember this? Yeaah , we did this too " . Reducing Doom to just a stark variant is very bad , Doom by himself has a huge huge amount of potential if the story is told right.

This question really depends on if the Doctor Doom from Fantastic 4 First Steps will actually be a variant of Tony Stark. If RDJ really is playing that universe's version of Victor Von Doom, then this idea wouldn't work as not only the audience be familiar with Tony and Thanos' dynamic but because Victor Von Doom would essentially be a "new" character with no previous relations with any prior characters, so it just really wouldn't stick. But if Marvel plays it smart, then they'll just have RDJ's character actually be Tony Stark in that college, but he'll just act like Doom and eventually call himself Doctor Doom in Avengers Doomsday.
Colton's scenario would only be cool if God King Doom Tony then rips out Thanos' skull and spine and says "That appears....untrue."
I can get behind having RDJ back as a villain, but Thanos as the new hero? I don’t think that would work the same way this Doom would. If Thanos appears at all, it should be an adaptation of Doom ripping his spine out in Secret Wars that would be crazy

I’ve always loved Thanos and I’m very inspired by the redemption arc that you’ve promoted for his character! it falls right in line with the multiverse variant “same character/ different path” theme, so it really works!
as long as the end doesnt sum up to Stark stopping his reign by someone saying "but Tony, you are not like this. This isnt you. Feel deep inside your soul, and remember how it was. Dont give into hate etc etc etc". and it all ends with laughter and hugs with fake backup laughter, slowly zooming out while the people hugs and cheer its all over.
Much as I enjoy this thought, the way you describe Tony Doom bears a striking resemblance to how Hydra operated, especially in Winter Soldier.
One of the reasons the infinity saga worked so well is bc Thanos was teased early in the Saga in The Avengers and expanded upon shortly after in GotG. Kang was introduced in a TV series a lot didn’t watch and then defeated by Ant-Man. Dr. Doom has yet to appear or be hinted at in anyway. You need the background threat to interconnect all the movies and keep the viewers looking for more. They’ve failed that in this Saga so far.
Totally agree, I think they can remedy this but they need to start ASAP, and any doom references now to set up future avengers movies should reference or be connected to previous events in the multiverse saga
I for one am completely SOLD on the idea of a ‘redemption arc’ for a Thanos variant. Josh Brolin’s Thanos is a towering figure in the MCU that Marvel has seriously struggled to replicate.
His portrayal of Thanos in that quietly spoken calm amongst the atrocities was very, very powerful and it’s not something they’ve managed to recapture in any MCU Big Bad since Endgame. This has left us wanting, and every movie/show since has been a pale imitation of those halcyon days.
And to flip it all 180 degrees? Oh man, sign me up!

Perhaps Thanos wiping out Xandar to get the power stone was the beginning of his burden and softened him.
Not only in committing genocide, but Thanos was wrong with his whole 'finite universe and finite resources' argument as well. What becomes a ''resource'' is ultimately determined by the availability of technology that can utilize it to produce something useful and/or valuable. With the kind of advanced almost magical looking technology that exists in the MCU, it's a little hard to believe that no one ever managed to extract resources from, say, other baren planets or star systems only to name a few examples. Not to mention, more individuals also mean more working hands and thinking brains...well, depending on their physiology.
Who was Doom’s Yensen? Someone evil in that role could really change his trajectory.

For me, the only mildly convincing reason to bring in a heroic Variant of Thanos would be to see Doctor Doom rip out his spine as a demonstration of the new villain's threat level.

No. There Is a huge difference between the two. Thanos already had his due. Kang didn't. If you have him get killed by Doom, It would totally waste his potential. Kang deserves better.
MCU Tony Stark had no transformative arc: returned to "suit of armor around the world" mentality and did not sacrifice his life: he was dead either way.
If this could all some how end up with GE Doom ripping Thanos' spine out like in 2015 secret wars, I would be a happy camper.

IF doom ends up being a Stark variant (i'm not hot on this idea), then maybe he's from the universe in Endgame where Tony got to talk to his dad when collecting extra PIM particles.

the snap was not random. Strange said he would give the stone if Tony's life was spared and that is what happened. I think he was referring to the snap and not that particular moment
If they really do the "Tony Stark turned dark" for Dr Doom, I'm honestly done. They have to do Dr Doom right, and having Tony Stark not being Victor Von Doom would be a deservice to the fans
I wouldn't choose for them to bring back Thanos, but I'd give it a chance and hope it was done well.
The epitome of goodness version of Thanos sacrifices himself for the multiverse's future to evilist Dr. Doom (Rabum Alal version) would be an awesome scene for sure. (rip out his entire spine scene.)
BTW, there can be different doom variants. It's logical for our Tony to turn into another Dr. Doom variant. (ofc, there are lots of possibilities to have that) Speaking of Tony-faced Dr. Doom, he was a gun-dealer as we knew, he rescued himself because he built a exosuit for himself. But contrary to our Tony Stark, this version had never revealed his true identity to the world when he returned from Afghanistan (he actually did on Iron Man 1, 2008) he continued to improve his tech and knowledge as anonymous person. Created ultron and robot army for himself. 2012, battle of New York happened, he was not an avenger but came there and saved the New York. But that event changed him a lot more. He got paranoid from alien threats. So he decided to save his world from future invasions. Improved his tech and knowledge even more paranoidly. Experienced power poisoning. Tried to have agreements with US and UN. But they didn't listen him and didn't want to give him a lot of power for management. Then he decided to attack governments with ultron and his robot army. Won the battle. Monopolized the governance of all the countries of the world and created world-shield like a dyson sphere. So, in the end, the world was not a threat for aliens but Tony-Faced Dr. Doom the egotistical, arrogant and narcissistic T. Stark under his Doom mask was the only ruler of the Earth. He was the only threat to the world after all of these.

I like Thanos. Don't judge me.
I've thought for a while now that it would be poetic for the Avengers to NEED Thanos. Find out Thanos knew more than anyone else and that his genocidal ways were for a bigger reason than we all thought. Having to team up with the same Thanos from Infinity War would cause so much tension, resentment, and fear of betrayal with the team, and that's kind of the Avengers theme: working together is the only solution.
If I'm not mistaken, Secret Wars should be teams of heroes/villains fighting other mixed teams of heroes/villains? So, this theory actually makes sense and is very exciting. Seeing heroes fighting alongside their villains to save their universes is what this story should be about.

Could we see Thanos in Secret Wars? Absolutely. He plays a part in Time Runs Out and Secret Wars. So, sure. He may be around. But as a "hero"? Nah. He will go out like he does in SW. If you know you know.

Thanos is still alive in so many What if universes so him coming back isn't impossible the question is will it be his one good version from Earth-21818 and will fight on the side of the heroes or one of his other bad versions from What If or some other universe entirely. Either way having a Doom vs Thanos fight would be interesting and pull right from Secret Wars 3 from 2015.

I think we had enough Tony and Thanos in the Infinity Saga. RDJ will play Victor Von Doom and he may look like Tony (I don’t think he will. They will probably scar his face enough for him to be his own character) but this must be a new character arch. People complain that Marvel is rehashing things but, at the same time, ask for “more Tony and Thanos” at the same time. I can’t wait to see this version of Doom. Hopefully, the best one yet in film.

I think that is a brilliant take. It would be cool to see it.
How about the version of Thanos who DID convince the inhabitants of Titan to go with his plan and the idea failed anyways. So he saw all that death brought on by his decision and still failed to save his people so he goes out trying to save other planets a different way. So he becomes similar to the what if version but without needing that version of starlord to convince him otherwise and the humor.
