everytime I see your thumbnails, I think "American Paul Sellers" is what you look like.
I have that DeWalt 735 planer, work outside of my garage, and store my tools in the front of the garage. Moving that beast every time I need to plane wood is a chore. The first thing I'm building is a rolling cart for it.
I have the 734 and even it is darn heavy. I made a rolling cart for it and never looked back.
Yes, I discovered Japanese Saws late in the game, but they are now the only hand saw I tend to use.
Last year on a trip to Japan, picked up a set of Japanese Chisels in a back street tool shop. Amazing price and a fraction of what I'd pay back home.
They look too good to use 😢
I started out with a Japanese pull saw, and never really got the hang of it, and then finally started getting good results when I switched to a regular old panel saw... I guess it may have been a combination of "what works for me" and the fact that I'd gotten a lot more woodworking under my belt by that point.
Here is my nit pick.
I got a multi head installation drill driver. It more versatile than the right angle drill. And it works like a charm.
The 90 degree is a big deal. The off-set head, I find, is an even bigger deal. And you can use both heads. Wish I got it earlier!! Mine is the Milwuakee M12 "4 in 1 installation driver". Could have been the Bosch or the DeWalt for all I care.
An other nit pick : the impact driver. Now, they pretty much all got sensitive trigger and sometimes multiple speeds. This allows this brute to work in finesse when you want a gentle touch. If your old impact driver is just a brute, an upgrade to a newer Ryobi is a game changer.
Those router bit extensions are great for really deep roughing out of mortises as well. You’ve go to have the base and any fences rock solid though when going to extend that bit so far below the base into/upon your work though 👍
Very helpful video. Thank you!
You're welcome, glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Just starting... and hv bought a good and affordable tools... 🎉 prefers hand tools.... and makes own furniture no more store buying..
I still got my Craftsman router and router table and mechanics tool set from when I was a kid from 1982
Ty for this! I’m super glad I got my Japanese saw and your advice on the planer is accurate! I spoke with some guys at Home Depot who reflected what you’ve said about pricing. Waiting for a sale in the 300s would be fantastic
I wanted to tell you something kinda humorous about impact drivers.
I used a 1/4" impact driver to attach something to the underside of my oak bench.
A year later i was going to remove what I had attached to it but the battery was dead on the impact driver.
I figured no big deal I'll use a ratchet with a torx bit on it and just unscrew it.
Boy i was stunned. With a 3/8" drive ratchet I could not budge the 2 1/2" screws in that 2" thick oak bench top. I couldn't get it to move at all.
Next day after the battery charged up the impact driver buzzed the screws out like it was in butter. I learned then just how much difference it makes.
I don’t have an impact drill or an angle drill which will be my next purchase, thank you! I’ve been doing exactly what you said…reversing and reinserting longer screws 😂
Questions, what's the name of the bandsaw behind you. What face protector name do you suggest for the lathe?
Angle drill is vg when you need it ,you need it .
I would add an oscillating saw or multitool when you need to adjust stuff in situ nothing compares and for smaller quick cuts its the boss .
Ok, give me an education unfortunately, Lowes lumber is what i can afford. And i was told that a planer wasn't necessary b/c the wood is already s2s. And i try to pick wood thats very flat. So whats your take on this?
68% banner might need a tweak
Time to go put all my hardwood in water
@@TNH91that’s funny.
Whoops, I made an error there. It should've said 6-8%. Thanks for pointing it out!
6 and 12. Combinations square are handlle. Along with speed sqare .
Good tips
Thanks!
@sawinery-woodworking, the lower-thirds at 2:31 is wrong. Might be early enough to fix it?
Whoops, I messed up on that! It should've been 6-8% moisture content.
But you have a nice looking jointer on the wall there, I doubt it weighs more than a few pounds...
All of the Sears made in China Craftsman resale for double the original price and going up in value Craftsman is the only brand that resales for then the original price the made in Taiwan not really
Too much of you, not enough of the tools. No closeups to speak of.
Sir, you are a cheapskate!! And I am not referring to your Ryobi’s………I am fully Ryobi and a part timer as well. I refer to just about all your other kit, give yourself a break. I will bet on any reasonable level you could be better be faster be happier by watching more tool review shows and just pushing your spend up just one notch…….you’re so close and after 30 years deserve to use the latest and best that you can!
I would lay odds that you are a much better woodworker than i am however I bet I out perform you because I spend just a little more and buy what I fancy and not just what I need.

The only thing is he probably developed his skills very well by not overspending on tools. It’s easy to go down the gear rabbit hole and forget what it’s all about
@@monkeyman8265 oh I do agree……..but spend carefully??
