I think if they had stuck the DB10 front end on, made the interior a bit more stylish and took £20k off the price, then it would have sold in bucket loads. As for the MB engine, I think that was a good idea and they were always going to be stuck with an out of date info system due to competing with other MB cars.

I don't know maybe it's just me but I honestly like this vantage more than the old one, the original to me was always the stunted little brother of the flagship's (DB9 and DBS) which were perfection personified when it came to design. I want to love Astons but I just don't find them as desireable as the previous generations like the DB9. I remember when it came out in 2004 and saw that awesome video in Top Gear when they raced it to Monaco. It sounded amazing, the interior was gorgeous and it was one of the most beautiful cars in the world back then.
They have to improve the design of the interior because the one in the Continental GT is just better.
Sadly, Aston Martin seems to always be a few years behind its competitors.
Relying on cool factor is not enough to compete when other manufacturers are making better cars.

I just bought a well spec'd Vantage, and all I can say is this car is truly impressive. The info system, everyone likes to rip on, is completely fine. I find it no better or worse than what was in my Stelvio or my Porsche Cayenne. If I were to compare the info system to the latest and greatest in 2022, yes it is lacking some features, but I didn't buy this car to play with the infotainment system! You certainly don't need to touch the manual to learn how to use it! The only thing I wish I could do, is display WAZE for nav purposes with CarPlay, but what is provided works great for everything except that!
As to the the actual drivability of the car, and that is what I bought it for, it is simply spectacular! Yes a Porsche GTS will beat it on the track and 0-60 but not by much. Where I find it so much better than the 911 is in its interior. The 911 unless spec's with the full leather package, which is very costly, is rather boring and generic inside. It's kind of reminds me of sitting in a Tesla, which is horrible! In addition, here in Chicago, everyone drives a 911. Drive 5 miles and you will see 20 of them. You never see an Aston on the road. At this level of car, I want to be different. Having the Honda Odyssey version of a sports car doesn't interest me and to me, that is what a 911 is.
The other car I was seriously considering was the AMG GT. I loved this car until I saw one in real life and drove it. The ride quality is punishing and the car just reminds me to much of a Dodge Viper, which I never really liked. I did love the engine in that car however, but with the Aston I get that engine but in a better looking package.
If you are looking at a car in this category, do yourself a favor and take one for a test drive. Also if possible, look at as many colors as you can in real life. None of these cars photograph well except for the China Grey version. The Q colors have so much depth and character to them, they must be seen on a sunny day, in the flesh. Lastly, a lot of these cars were spec'd in full Alcantera. Personally I can't stand the full Alcantara interior, find one with the full leather interior.
Good luck in your search, this is truly a spectacular car that deserves far more praise than it is currently getting!

They did a great job with the rear, despite having to retain the safety features required per most governments, they should have created a similar front end that was mirrored. The interior is OK, a bit dated but certainly comfortable and very roomy (I’m 6ft 4). Agree on the price though. I managed to get a pre registered car with only 30 miles and Aston gave me a 25% discount, otherwise I would never have paid the list price. Second hand they will be a terrific buy, that Merc engine is pretty bulletproof. Most important of all though, it puts a great big grin on my face every time I drive it, and for that reason alone I’m a very happy owner.

I couldn’t agree more. This is my car in the video and I thoroughly enjoy it. It replaced a 991.2 911 Turbo which was fast but bland. On the same roads as in the video the 911 Turbo was faster but so much less involving. It was like being in a video game, quicker acceleration and more grip but so inert. You just don’t feel part of the package and it sounded like a vacuum. On paper it ticks all the boxes but as an ownership proposition it felt a bit of a let down. I never parked mine and walked away from it and turned around to gaze at it.
The new Vantage ticks my boxes on the road and track. It looks absolutely beautiful in the flesh, the interior whilst a bit dated actually feels special and I much prefer buttons over touch screens. The new 992 is over complicated in my opinion. I love the noise, it sounds epic, the handling, the fact that I’m involved in the driving experience, and even at 40 MPH it feels special, very special. I never fail to enjoy looking at it from any angle. Colour is subjective but China grey looks fabulous and that’s why I bought it. There’s a colour for everyone within the Vantage range.
My car has been fault free over 11,000 miles, and I dispute the paint wearing issue James pointed out. The panels aren’t rubbing and the mark is due to me closing the tailgate with a strap of a bag caught in the gap. I use it as much as I can and have enjoyed its ability on the track too. I’m fortunate enough to own a few nice cars to choose from, but tend to end up behind the wheel of the Vantage more than others. I bought my car at 4 months old with a massive saving, making it cheaper than a 992 Porsche with a few options. More power, better looks, better sound and a chance to be part of an exclusive brand. I’m not a Porsche hater and have owned a 981 Spyder since new in 2015 and have a 718 Spyder PDK coming to join my collection. The Spyder is way more enjoyable to drive than my 911 Turbo was, it also has some character. I’ve had nothing but positive feedback from all who’ve seen my Vantage in the flesh but wouldn’t care if it wasn’t liked but anyone. I simply love it and intend continuing to enjoy it for a few more years.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your Vantage as much as me. The Aston community is a great bunch of proper petrol heads.

I think you were right on the video, they over supplied the market last year and left dealers with lots of unsold stock on forecourts, hence some pretty drastic deals to get these units shifted (I was happy to oblige!). Watching this in Jan 2024, my brother having just bought a 69 plate example in blue... The front-end has really grown on me since I first saw the car in 2019. In blue the swoops, curves and creases work very well. With gloss black splitter and grille surround it has purpose and form. Side profile is beautiful, especially when the vent/blade is in a drilled black seracote-type finish. Gorgeous at the back-end. All I'd do is make the sports quad exhaust have larger diameter finishers as they look a bit apologetic. It needn't apologise though as it sounds incredible. Body fit and finish and interior build quality first rate on a 2019 17,000 mile car. It's solid as a rock. Prices have firmed-up a lot since this revised and you'll easily pay £90k for a decent spec car of that age. £100 for a top spec.

One thing car journalists tend to omit - and is sadly the case here - is the vehicle's lighting system. For those who occasionally find themselves behind the wheel after the bright shiny thing in the sky disappears and darkness descends, it's actually fairly important to be able to see what's in front of the vehicle. And yet, journalists remain silent on this important topic. I happen to know someone who bought the new Vantage and then promptly got rid of it because its after-dark capabilities were exceeded by a passing geriatric glow-worm. The same problem used to be true of the previous generation of Jeep Wrangler (my head-torch literally outshone the lights on a rented Wrangler). Turns out, seeing where you're going at night is really very useful. Shame no one seems to take that into consideration.

I loved the old generation of Aston so much I can't imagine Aston doing better for me. Original DB9 is still one of the most pretty cars ever. New Aston interiors seem the biggest let down as the old generation interior was so amazing when it came out. Bentley probably did it right with their central screen that can fold away.

DB9 is the prettiest, of sort the modern astons, and its close relatives like the Vantage.

I feel as though the lights could have been a little more interesting, but outside that I honestly loved that body shape. The back especially, with that weird little ducktail.

What were they thinking of with that interior. Weird shapes and a vomit of tacky buttons

I think this car looks absolutely stunning. Everyone is just jumping on the hate bandwagon. I've seen 2 now on the road and look awesome in real life

@@huss03 Have you seen this model in the flesh or heard one for real? probably not. most youtubers rate the sound from what they hear from a youtube video. lol. Mercedes amg engines are the best developed in the world. Just look at F1 and Pagani. This model will be a timeless future classic

I like how it looks personally , never had a problem with it, but everything else doesn't keep up with that look. It is obviously a GT car, it should've been toned down a bit to compete with regular 911s or cars like Roma and similar. And it looks miles better than F-type. Good review!

When they refresh the car I do hope they change the style of the lights. If it gets the shape of the previous generation it would look so much better. I'm convinced it alone would transform the looks.

I agree the front end is a bit of a mess. but the side profile and the rear looks amazing. Odd interior aside, that boot/trunk alignment issue is absolutely ridiculous and does not help Aston Martin's case over a 911 or an AMG GT. Also, am i alone in thinking the F-type is probably a better buy? Yes JLR sometimes aren't known for the best reliability but I am fairly confident that even they wouldn't have boot alignment issues.

In 2024 these are looking good value for a sports car with Aston heritage, and that front end has grown on me versus the facelift they introduced.

Cross shopped this with the 992. The added cost and overly aggresive design lines not to mention disjointed interior led to us getting the 992. Think we made the right decision.
