I'm using it, starting week 2 with CIQ. I like it alot! The best advice I could say is "Trust the tech!" Don't override and give manually corrections, as it will throw off the algorithm.
This is such an exciting step forward for diabetes tech! Thank you for sharing. I’m picking out a insulin pump soon and this is a really interesting feature 😊

HI Danica. I have the old T:slim pump and can't upgrade until July. But I spoke with my endo this week and we discussed the Control IQ feature with my soon to be new pump. I started researching it once she told me about it. I came across your videos and really appreciated them. I can't wait to get this moving because I know this will be a game changer for me. No matter how I try to manage my diabetes, it seems to always just do what it wants. I can be high or low at any given time. I feel like this technology will be just what I need to help me have better control.

Thank you so much for this video. I am currently using medtronic 670g and am not happy at all. Inaccuracy with the cgm, cgm never being able to get past the warm up period, trouble with insertion... and for auto mode to actually benefit, the cgm is kind of important. I was looking at which pump I would like to move to and did a bunch of research including watching your videos on the tslim. I love using the dexcom g6 so that was a plus. But your video definitely helped to reinforce what was pretty much already my decision. So thank you again.

Hi Danica! I love your videos! I have been a type1 for almost 35 years. I went on a pump in 2008. I am now on a medtronic 630g after Animas left the pump market. I am not eligible for a new pump until February 2021. In Ontario Canada the government will pay for a new pump every 5 years. I have been wanting a Tandem pump forever it feels like. I was using an enlite sensor with my pump but didn't like them. So I went back to using dexcom Before that I was on a Dexcom g5. I am extremely excited to get a Tandem pump. Right now I get about 70% in range but that is with me doing all the work. I don't get alot of lows but it will be nice to not have to worry about it anymore. Please keep us updated on the Control iq.☺😄😊

My weak link with the Tandem Control IQ is the G6 sensor. With a new sensor within 5 hrs it reads crashing lows setting off pump alarms all night long. After 2 days with frequent calibrations the sensors settle in very close to finger stick values. With control IQ on temp basal are disabled. Glad you are doing well.
Just started my new TSLIM pump and hopefully getting the new program to prevent highs. Helps great with lows.
I get good results at night on night mode. I now use sleep mode 24/7. Works great. We have only just got this in Australia 2022. Watch Ur insulin on board before manual correction

I am still waiting on doctor approval to finish the training so I can do the download for Control IQ. May have to call my endo again if I don't hear anything this week. I am looking forward to using it. For now, still on Basal IQ.
I am so excited for Control IQ! I eagerly await my email from Tandem. It's amazing that we've reached the point in human history when this technology is possible!
I'm a little concerned about how it will perform when there are gaps with no CGM data and the Control IQ has to turn off (like when I have sensor errors or finished my last sensor but don't have the new one yet), but I think it will be worth whatever adaptions I need to make while getting used to the new system. I'm glad you included your comments about the day when you kept going low; I've had a sensor with calibration problems once, and it makes sense that the pump would react the way you describe. It's helpful to have that possibility in mind.
If no CGM data, it disables itself until current readings are showing again.

Sadly this tech has been around for a while but the FDA process is so expensive and takes forever. Medtronic has had theirs out for a while but they seem to get preferential treatment with the FDA because they’re the big fish.
Think about how long CGMs have been around and this system is just a matter of programming yet we’re just now getting the system in people’s hands.
The FDA is the reason why we never get certain meds that have been around in the rest of the world for years. Companies are hesitant to spend the money to get through the approval process especially if the patents have expired. They’ll never recoup their expenses.
I’m on the 670g and Guardian sensor , and I’m definitely considering switching to the X2 for the fact that it can do automatic correction bolus. It seems the Tandem has given more thought about to how to achieve greater balance of blood glucose while Medtronic uses an approach of overcompensating and under-compensating with each week of data. One week my micro-boluses will be really small amounts of insulin causing slightly higher bg levels and the next week my micro-boluses will double cause me to have a lot of low bg levels. My time in range is great on the 670g but it’s not worth the highs and lows that can make a person feel sick.
wow you guys in America are so lucky here in u.k ive had type 1 for 50 years and only had an insulin pump for 2 years now just started on freestyle libre sensors how great the new treatments are shame not everyone can get them though. then i am grateful for what i get when you look at places like india where if your a girl with diabetes they dont bother getting you treatment only boys tragic they are still on donated insulin from us and syringes awful terrible but hey we are so lucky arnt we
GOTHIC WYTCHE Hello and I’m sorry that things are a little backward in the UK. If you are very very technically inclined, you might be able to do a DIY closed loop insulin pump system which requires a Dexcom CGM as well as an insulin pump and various other things which are very technical. But if you’re an engineer or someone very technical, you could definitely do it. If you are ever presented with the chance to get on the Dexcom either the G5 or the G6 preferably the G6, it will communicate with the Tandem T slim insulin pump and presumably the OmniPod [Insulet] pump in the future this will make managing your blood glucose so much easier. Good luck and hang in there and just know that things Technology related for diabetes are progressing at an even more rapid rate than before so you might see some big changes in the next year or so. One last thing is that if you are wanting to get on the Dexcom you might be able to find someone who has a G5 that they have left over from upgrading to the G6 or someone who just didn’t like the G6 and is selling theirs. My doctor just sent the updated prescription to Tandem to allow the update to Control IQ. Hopefully be on it soon.
I hate lows. They leave me so wiped out. Most of the time It is my own fault. I don't like breaking away from a project when I am engaged in it and I keep getting reminded by my 670G that it is on the way. Finally, with a supreme effort, I pull away,... Take the time to eat... return to whatever state of normal I was on. Glad your new pump is working for you.
I have the 670G. I definitely love the closed loop system, I think that my life is easier overall now that I'm on it. BUT I have a lot of complaints about the system: lots of alerts, sensor failures, inaccurate sensor (basically the sensor just SUCKS lol). I had the T slim before (without any control IQ or anything) and I really miss the touch screen and simplicity of it. I'm going back to the T slim the first chance I get!!
Thanks for sharing your Control IQ experience. I'm curious about your pump screen. It shows your set low (red line), but not your set high (yellow line).?? Mine has a gray shaded bar to show set range.
Hello! My question is about treating lows. How do you go about treating a low after your insulin suspends? Do you still treat the low or give less carbs to treat? I am assuming the rebound with stopping insulin and treating would be pretty high? Thank you
could you do a video on adjusting settings yourself? not for specific pumps just maybe a tips video or things to consider when changing settings yourself that would be general for any pump/pump brand. im always so scared to change mine if i change it to much/to little
I notice more lows too but I’ve been in range sooooo much more so it’s worth it. The extra alerts bother me too but it’s a price I’m glad to pay for more in range numbers. I’ve also noticed my dexcom reading WAYhigh which kind of scares me. My dexcom clarity says my a1c est is 6.8 but at the dr my a1c was 5.6. Which is a huge difference. So I was worried about trying control iQ at first but so far so good

So cool. I hope this can happen with the Omnipod. My 10 year old refuses to wear a tubed pump. This is so neat though.
dreamflight6000 I’m thinking of switching from omnipod to tandem for this option. I’m not going to like having a tuner pump again though!
I am waiting for doctor’s prescription for CIQ, but I’m coming off medtronic 670g. I hated the 670 with a fiery passion. I lost signal all the time, I got errors and alarms ALL THE TIME. All my alarms became less and less restrictive, and I still got too many. The only thing I’m worried about with CIQ is I’m not sure I want to deal with the extra alerts... I hope it’s not anything like the 670g automode 🤞🤞🤞
Thank you for the video. I just started the Control IQ on Thursday night. I am finding that when I put my carbs in and correction, within the normal time, from the 4 hour time pre Control IQ, I go high above 200, when before, I would be around 180 and then starting to turn down.... does that make sense?? Any suggestions?

I found out recently that Medicaid has approved a Tandem pump for me through a referral by my endo. I've been on MDI for about 4 yrs now and was tired of stabbing myself 4x/day. Watching numerous videos, pumps look intimidating - so much to learn. I will be calling today to register for the pump - I've been procrastinating a bit. Since getting a CGM my sugars have gone way down (I had been between doctors and couldn't get med refills) from 10.3 in January to 7.4 in June to a fingerstick A1C of 7.0 yesterday at my regular doctor's office. The Dexcom G6 was indicating a 6.8 - fairly close. Are pumps hard to learn to use? One video showed that you had to have lots of spare parts in case something went wrong with it.
Technology is amazing. I'm not diabetic, but using data is so cool.
I'm running alot higher since on control IQ. It's crazy. Seems I'm pushing more buttons/taking more corrections than when on basal iq
I wish I had the same luck as you, as someone who is on more insulin (my basal rates are between 6 and 7 units per hour) I don't qualify, but their documentation does not state these limitations (which is a set basal rate of 3 units/hour, weight of 300 pounds, and total daily insulin of 100 units). I've had to get a replacement pump to go back to Basal IQ until they unrestrict those settings to better conform to my insulin needs.
Hi...you were asking about the Medtronic 670 I've been using it for almost a year. Auto mode is HORRIBLE!!! I noticed several time lows during the time I was sleeping and the pump was still giving me insulin!!!! Yeah I know life threatening, my Endo confirmed that This was true. She advised me to no longer use manual!!! We are in the process of trying to Get my insurance company to cover the Tandem with no hope so far.
I have seen dozens of people say the CF endos put in their pumps are way too strong vs testing that number and using it in Loop made that obvious. Makes sense yours was too strong.
My wife has been having issues with her G6 have you? Tandem just keeps sending replacements.
was wondering if there is insulin waste greater than a few units while changing resevoir? also if syringe can retrieve insulin from used tubing?

My G6 say I have a 150 average, but a true A1C blood draw a couple weeks ago said I had a 5.4 A1C.. I find my Dexcom always read higher than a finger stick. I usually calibrate them 3 times on the first day of the sensor. They are usually pretty good then, but they can fall behind pretty far on a quick drop in my sugar levels.
I seem to have the opposite issue. My fingerstick BGs are almost always higher than my G6, but it seems to be accurate enough - gust had an A1C yesterday at my doctor's office and it was only different be .2 - Dexcom read lower. (7.0 vs 6.8). My 14-day GMI is down to 6.4. I've been hyper-vigilant, though, checking my meter throughout the day.
Have you tried Bernstein diet or low carb/keto diet? Haven't received the CIQ yet, but I will be soon I guess. They said they would email it out.
I usually have pretty stable bgs cause lows are like legit my biggest fears!
Anyways, if you have done low carb in the past, what are some reasons why you aren't now? ... Or are you? Thanks!
Just wondering about the reliability of the g6 sensors over the guardian sensor. I'm struggling with the guardian sensors failing every 2 to 3 days. Considering switching to dexcom and tandem basal iq and leaving medtronics 770g
Is there a way to override or pause the automatic insulin adjustments if you notice you're running lower than your CGM says you are? Obviously you can correct manually if you're running higher.
I find that my Dexcom G6 is quite often at the top end or bottom end of their "acceptable 30% margin of error".
I initially had a lot of sensor error issues with the G6 and was on the phone with tech support a lot in the beginning. Eventually they explained that the G6 isn't designed to be calibrated frequently, so I should only calibrate it a max of 2-3 times in 24 hours, and ONLY if my CGM BG was outside of that 30% margin of error (otherwise it will cause sensor read errors). As a result, even when my finger stick BG is pretty far off, I'm not able to calibrate, so I'm still finger checking to treat a lot. It's worth saying I have a digestive disorder and I'm functionally brittle diabetic as a result. Sometimes I wonder if this contributes to being at the top or bottom edge of that margin of error so often. I would really love to try a closed loop system (and so would my Endo) but that 30% is a HUGE deal for me especially considering I so frequently can't calibrate, because it's just inside the 30%. Sometimes a little bit of insulin will make me drop like crazy, and sometimes a little bit of food will make me skyrocket even if I take insulin. In a lot of ways, Control IQ might be great in helping me calm the rollercoaster, but I'm pretty concerned about what would happen the times that my CGM reads 190 and I'm actually 150 😬.

Help please!! When the G6 sensor is on the last 12 hours then 6 hours then 2 hours then 30 minutes it alarms each of these times to let you know to change it soon. Is there anyway of shutting these alarms off. This is so annoying during the night.
Your pump has activity settings? Where? Which version is it
got my update about a month ago. I do like it, however I am very slim - less than 3% body fat - so it is hard to find good sites to use. I have to change site every day just about because insulin is not absorbing correctly. When I can keep the site good, it keeps me in the 95-110 range real consistant. When I see my numbers up to 131 and going up, I know its time to change site :(
Is the control IQ different than the Basal IQ?

Whats your experience with the batterytime? Is it "easy" to charge? How often do you charge? I am about to choose a new pump but I can not decide if I am going with the T:slim or Minimed 670g.
Karin Ellen Meyer I find that the battery lasts maybe three-ish days? And it takes maybe about an hour if not less to charge fully. I’ve had the t slim for almost a year and I definitely recommend it!
I have had the tandem for 2.5 years (with Dexcom) and LOVE it. I charge my Tandem while I am in the shower in the morning (10-15min) almost every day and am 90% charged the next morning.

I never got an email but logged onto the TAndem site and was able to start the update process.

@@pamspicer97 oh no, by start the update process I mean get to the point I'm waiting on my doctor to approve the prescription. I never received the first email from Tandem saying I had the green light to even begin that process.

My Dex has been over 100 points off. Not sure about trusting it for Control IQ. I have the upgrade, but afraid to start it.
I want tighter control so I opted to get a medtronic pump and dex.
Nancy Elwood how’s it working out for you? I’m using the Medtronic 670G now and haven’t been thrilled with the programming. I’ve also found BGM units are troublesome as some come dead out of the box, connection issues with the transmitter to the pump, as well as transmitter batteries not fully charging at sensor change.
Hi, me again! Just a thought: SOMETIMES When you go from having an average BG that is higher to an average BG that is lower, you can feel low even though technically you’re not low. I hope that makes sense as I’m describing it to you. Basically, your body is sensing the new lower number as a low even though it’s not, and so it’s kicking in those stress hormones and things. I don't have IQ yet, but my Dexcom G6 has been reading weird lately too. Every other sensor is asking me to calibrate it ever 8 to 12 hours... I call them and they say that they will send me a replacement, but it never comes. I think I might look for something else, but I'm not sure if there is anything else...
Jim McGahhey The Dexcom G6 is really the ultimate in CGM technology. I would suggest working with your diabetes educator to make sure that you are absolutely applying all of these steps correctly because you can get bogged down with the various steps and perform one or two incorrectly which would cause your sensors to fail early or very sporadic. I know from my experience coming from the G5 to the G6 it is taking an incredible learning curve and I have had almost every sensor go bad before it’s expiration date because it wasn’t giving readings. Nevertheless, the G6 is the only one that communicates with the Control IQ on the Tandem T:SLIM insulin pump. So I wouldn’t change that at all. GOOD LUCK and hang in there! ~Antonio

Does the pump "learn" your schedule/body in any way like the 670G does? Like if my ISF was 20 but it really should be 50 would I have a ton of bad lows due to the bad setting?
It is my understanding that the pump will correct for the error in the insulin to carb ratio or insulin sensitivity factor by correcting your blood glucose numbers. However if your ISF, for example, is off then you should work with your diabetes educator and your diabetes doctor, essentially your diabetes team, to adjust that correction factor so that the number of correction is closer to what it should be and this will make the Control IQ system work all that much better. ~Antonio
@@antoniodominion9418 It was more of a hypothetical. I'm wondering if the system will pick up on that ISF being too small, and adjust the correction to be better the next day at that same time, or just let the lows happen because the settings told it to.
Still waiting on Tandem to send the Control IQ update email, their recent Facebook vlog on 1/15 said the emails were going out the following week. What is the delay and how is Tandem determining the rollout? It would be nice to get the Control IQ update sooner than later...
markcmann go to your portal. Click the three bars to the top right and choose devices. You should be able to scroll down to control iq and start your request.

Hi Danica. I am from the UK I am still waiting for control iq as I struggle with highs from adrenaline in sports and generally I am always eating too much as I am growing. When you say your readings are in the 100s does that mean 10s in the uk? Can anyone reply to this?

I use the medtronic sensor when I wear a sensor. It is never ever that accurate. The automatic pumps scare the living daylights out of me! I checked my blood sugars still a ton with an actual glucometer and finger prick! I really need to ask again to switch to the dexcom. My medtronic sensor can say that I am 180 but with a finger prick I can be 140. and I know that that isn't a crazy difference, but I often think what if the sensor said I was 100 and I was really hanging in the 60's. I don't always feel my lows until after I know I'm low, lol. Then it's like a feel my low forever. But if something was making decisions off of the medtornic sensor, I'd be doomed!!
Definitely try the G6! I had the same experience with Medtronic. It was always 150 off either way. The G6 is crazy accurate. I have had a Medtronic pump for 20+ years but when my warranty ran out in December and I immediately called my Tandem rep to order me a tslim.. Medtronic just hasn't kept up...
I use Dexcom (5), but have read bad things about the Medtronic Enlite sensors. If they are so off so much of the time, how did they manage to get approval? (May be a stupid question)

Dani 'Trouble' my sister just got off it. She had a nightmarish encounter with it while having it removed (it moved in her arm, and the doc didn’t think that was possible and spent 15 minutes *searching* for it in her arm) and the daily charge and removal wasn’t great, but she said it was fairly accurate after she got things settled in after a few days of calibrations.

@@antoniodominion9418 maybe I should have used the word sting. It stings for my son when he puts in insulin. Just wondering why or if there is a solution. It didn't use to sting when he put it in.
Please tell me there is a solution to sleepless nights due to a never ending list of reasons with the t-slim alarms going off. That alarm will weak up the whole house!!!! My son has soooo much trouble with the sensor losing its connection to the pump. He is exhausted from the times it does that in the night. Also, if he keeps the pump in a pocket, it loses its connection even more. Having his pump on his belt means it falls off and pulls the site off from time to time. He loves the idea of Control IQ but if there are MORE ALARMS, he will never go for that. I am not even sure if he will continue with Tandem with how much it alarms now. Any ideas?
If the pump is in your pocket it will not read. If you sleep on your sensor it will not read. Call Tandem for some help. Also if sensors fail call for replacements.
@@dawnb2224 Thank you for responding Dawn. We did that and they are sending replacements but just not feeling confident that will fix anything since we have gone through 3 now with lost signals. Last night it alarmed over 100 times in 4 hours. Changed the sensor and it has already lost signal over an hour straight in one stretch alone. Sometimes it says out of range when it 2 feet away from the sensor. Other times just lost signal. Same location. two different reasons. They go back and forth on alarming reasons. Then when it finally comes back it alarms for high/low --whichever. ANd then back to lost signal. You get the picture.
@@worthybookjourney3231 I understand. Have you heard of waiting the 15 full minutes between changing sensors? I got that tip once and I have way less errors unless I sleep on my sensor and or pump. Also pump must be on the side of the sensor and facing out. I glued a piece of rubber to the inside of my clip and it helps with the slipping. It makes it harder to put it on but worth it. Used craft clue and gave 12 hours to seal

Which infusion set did you use? I have control IQ now and like it so far but keep getting occlusion alarms with my tru steel and can never get 3 days out of one. Any suggestions on a different set to try? Tandem has not contacted me yet after almost a month to get a local person to help me.
