- In this new story time segment, I wanted to spend some time featuring athletes who inspire at every level of life. Great athletes, sure. But also those who lived great lives!
In this first episode I decided to feature the life and accomplishments of Jim Thorpe, a hero and man of good character too. This is a brief history of his life and accomplishments. There is so much more that I couldn't include. But sufficeth to say, the more I read about him, the more impressed I've become. I recommend all take some time to learn about Jim and his history.
Written and narrated by Ryan Shanahan with excerpts taken from various online sources.
Some video footage is used from the Olympic game channel for the purpose of illustration and commentary, and falls under fair use of the patent law. - Спорт
That's my great uncle!!!❤️🌟
Wow! Jim Thorpe was my idol as a young man and a source of inspiration for everything i did in Athletics .
You quite pretty and also skilled
Great part of American history
He was my father's (KIOWA TRIBE) hero.
And he was most definitely my hero.
And he's my sons hero too...
We're all proud Oklahoma NDNs!
My father actually met him at the American Indian exposition, in ANADARKO OKLAHOMA.
Seriously. Very proud lady ah.
TRULY, A GREAT MAN! THIS IS A PERSON WORTHY OF EVERYONE'S RESPECT AND EMULATION,
@@frankramos3640 agreed.
A life to aspire to
can you imagine what this man could've done with the right equipment?
Truly
Dude was a unit.
This country needs another one of him
Bruce Jenner was pretty amazing at the decathlon. Never mind what happened afterwards.
Best athlete ever!!
Wow! So with all odds against him and terrible prejudice this man went on to become a legendary athlete and an inspiration to millions. Talk about perseverance and strength 💪🏽I have so much respect for Jim Thorpe.
An inspiration!
Echo that loudly. Amazing human, in spite of all he overcame.

My lord not just a greatest athlete but most importantly great humble man.
You have done such a supremely well appointed narration of this man's span of life, a French-Potawatomi, Kickapoo & Sauk Fox man who was my grandmother's second cousin (Charlotte Vieux-descendant of French fur trader: Jacques Vieux).
Your spoken grammer, with your words showing at times the inflections of an alert, inquisitive wildly collegiate, in a highly distinguished nerdy gentleman type feel I gather thru watching this twice now ...it made me emotional & yes I cried unexpectedly.
You honor me and my Vieux-Wamego-Tomey-Nhoktonik Potawatomi & Kickapoo family by how you spoke to me..as you spoke to everyone who'll learn more about Mr. Thorpe as you speak to my cousin Jim Thorpe himself perhaps.. in your very words of genuine affection that is what I personally HEARD in your historical narration voice that pays such a modern tribute to his courage that must somehow be seen in me and you and his grandchildren the best athletic record scored and kept that retells upon each generation ; his resolve & our American amidexterity cannot be beaten as we turn our face to our foe and only see the faces of all our many friends.
Thank you for giving Jacobus Thorpe an up to date, modern new and younger collegiate styled voice. Who he was and what he stood for speaks thru you. I like that.
✌Hon. K.C Eisenberger from Oklahoma, Lost Territories.
WAIT? We're family!!!!
How many other relatives are around today that tie back to Jim Thorpe? God bless you and yours and thank you for sharing your comments.
5:04, an amazing fact!
What a champion. incredible
Jim Thorpe was also the best football player of his generation and an accomplished professional baseball and basketball player. As well as the national collegiate ballroom dancing champion.
Oh, I didn't know about the ballroom part of his history. Amazing! Thanks for your comment.
Legend
I see his picture everywhere when I was in a hospital a few weeks ago at the Jim Thorpe outpatient and inpatient facility. I was very curious to find out who this great person is.
He's often forgotten but legit claim to being the greatest athlete in history participating in Olympics, MLB and NFL.
Thank you Jim.
Incredible man
This is Levels bro Tears flowing levels
The original Bo Jackson
I'd rather watch a movie about Jim Thorpe, than the same old capeshit movies.
Can you make another Jim Thorpe video please?
Hi Hadlee. Thanks for your comment. What would you be interested in seeing in an additional video, beyond what was covered in this one?
Born in 1888, not 1880.
"Good Show"...??... more like Great show Jim the world may never see another warrior like you again. Thank you Jim for your greatness. RIP great warrior.
Beautiful story, indian blood will never die.
In 1954, the town of Mauch Chunk was renamed as Jim Thorpe in Pennsylvania, Carbon County when Mauch Chunk and East Mauch Chunk merged.
Charles Bronson would've played him well in a biopic
Nah, get an Indigenous actor. Enough white men falling off horses..
Charles Bronson was a fellow Pennsylvanian.
Too short
at 2:38 that is navajo words
Fijn - Informatief-!
Dank U-!🇳🇱🙏🇳🇱👌🇳🇱⚘
The story of Jim Thorpe by Tall Paul is amazing.
3:47, Jim Thorpe holds these records
and he also played pro basketball, pro baseball, pro football, pro golf, won a national ballroom compeition. won a national yacht race and other things i can't even think of. also in that same olympics, he qualified for the individual high jump, long jump and 100 yard dash and placed 4th in high jump 7th in long jump and 11th in running.
he would have gone to another olympic game but after he got back, the comittee discoverd he played baseball during the summer at that time and got paid 5 bucks for the summer which il isk 1000 dollars in 2023. not very much money. other people did that but did not use their real named. he had no idea about such things and was hoenst. but they stripped im of his medals even though bseball had zilch to do with the sports he compted in. and not returend to his family til like 20 years ago.
Great contribution to his history. I'll have to consider a revision and add notes to this episode. Thank you.
@@recsporteducation4594 you are elcome. oh i just looked up some stuff. he even did lacrosse . not professionaly but he played everything well. btw. you are most welcome. i got interested in him when i was young and my dad told me he was the greatest ever. and a few years ago i saw several vidoes on him and just kind of remember a bunch of these things. but i am sure if they were talked about that they are are probably pretty accurate.
I’m related to him! Don’t know how tho
Thanks for your comment.
People are people good or bad in all races but in the end the good will win
That's my nanaji
He had no peers. Some athlete
#PatrickDavid needs to see this.
I miss chsrley😢
He got screwed. What a stud
I think when his twin died, his life essence went into Jim. Consolidating their power together and creating a Native American demigod.
Asterisk......African Americans were not allowed to compete in the Olympics at that time.
They know er would've dominated this too!
is this guy trying to say 'soux' sox?
