one thing i always appreciated about part 6 is that despite the main character being a female Araki isn't afraid of putting her through the ringer, like she gets mangled as much if not more than other jojos which is something that frankly other mangakas probably wouldn't be brave enough to attempt. It really makes her feel equal to other protagonists and not just like "the girl one".
This. No pedestal, no kid gloves, no simping. She earns her spot.
She basically just acts like a man.

Many people have pointed out that out of all the Joestars that followed him, Jolyne is the most similar to Jonathan. And, like Jonathan, she isn’t the one to win her ultimate fight. She does before the evil can be defeated. But through her sacrificed, like how Jonathan’s sacrificed ultimately allowed for Dio to be defeated, Jolyne was able to get Emporio the victory.

Emporio standing up to Pucci is a kid taking his first step into adulthood, owning up to an impossible situation in front of him and throwing his fists at his wicked opponent.
These fists may be physically weak, but they are filled with a the fiery courage of a young gentleman.
A fire that burns as bright as the sun, fueled by the millenary breath of justice that shoots towards the stars, just like when that little boy from England in 1800s fought for the honor of an unknown damsel in distress.

Part 6 has one of my favorite lines in Jojo's. Father Pucci: "I respect the first person who ate a mushroom."
The following line of, “were they just a fool or did they feel the clawing desperation of hunger?” is so good
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Araki's decision to have Emporio be the one to finish off Pucci is _emblematic_ of what makes JoJo such a unique series. Any other mangaka would've had Jolyne be the one to deal the finishing blow. After all, she's the main character! Of course she should be the one to end the Brando-Joestar rivalry, right?
But JoJo isn't about being the Main Character-est. It's about kindness and hope, and how these things affect the people around us. The decision to have a scared, defenseless child be the one to save the _entire universe_ thanks to the sacrifices of his friends is one that is brimming with hope - hope in humanity, and hope in the idea that anyone, no matter who they are, can do the impossible if they don't fight alone.
And at the end of the day, what allows Jolyne and the gang to be victorious? It's not Jolyne being the smartest, or the fastest, or the strongest... it's her kindness. The selflessness, the compassion she shows in saving Emporio (despite only having met him a few days ago)... that is what gives Emporio the power to strike down a literal god. And I think that's wonderful. The heroes in JoJo aren't special because they're the best at punching people and using ghosts to fight - they're special because they bring out the best in others. That level of genuine kindheartedness is something that I rarely see in shonen, and it's the main reason why JoJo is my favorite anime of all time.
So far Jotaro and Giorno have been the only ones to actually end their villains
@@Stryfe52 on that note, I remember someone pointing out to me that the end of JoJo parts aren’t about the main characters winning as much as they are the main villains getting the exact opposite of what they wanted

I love how when going through White Snakes' multiple separate abilities, John still forgot about that one time White snake was able to disguise himself as Weather Report for some reason

To be fair, this weird combo platter thing has a precedent. How many different crazy things could Killer Queen do? Sure it had a main ability, but it had other powers. Star Platinum had a bunch of weird little abilities that are brought up a few times then never mentioned again. Similar stuff happened with Hierophant Green. However... I also think Araki is prone to changing his mind a lot and will just sort of throw stuff in as he thinks it up. I mean if you look back you can see the signs of plot lines and concepts he was considering, then just changed his mind.

I was honestly not prepared for how hard Stone Ocean goes. Every part of Jojo has a certain level of brutality to them but the fights Jolyne gets into were next level.
I honestly like that Araki was not treating Jolyne with kid gloves compared to the other Jojos. She IS a Joestar and makes her own mark for that name.

@@Advent3546 best fistfighter stand user joestar. Maybe jotaro is better, but we don't really see that. I absolutely adore that she channels stone ocean through her own body to hit the enemies. That's something I would do myself as a stand user.
@@FiniteMan1933 I'm not OP, but the way I read it, they meant more like...when a woman is put into these kinds of situations, often times people (writers who make these stories included) dislike seeing them as hurt as the men, so they tone the violence down when it happens to a woman. So it's not that the other Joestars are treated with kid gloves, but that Jolyne isn't either.
I love jolyne and jotaros relationship in part 6, I genuinely can't believe some people water it down to "haa jotaro loves dolphins/koichi more than his kid" like! He came out of Egypt traumatized with his one and only friend dead and immediately tried to have a normal life, resulting in having jolyne at around 21! During college!! I could honestly argue he may not of completely loved his wife having a kid this early but he cared enough to convolute his way into thinking 'I need to leave so they won't get hurt'. Jotaros just insanely emotionally and socially constipated so only 19 years after jolyne is born and he's literally on the ground dying does she realize he actually cares about her 🥲 and despite that she still cares about him and breaks her back trying to get his stand and memories back... it's so bittersweet I love talking about them
To be fair if not for those Dolphins, they could have never beat the final villain of this arc.

@@PussyrepelentI think the point's more that Kakyoin was closest to Jotaro. Polnareff was a great guy to know, but a twentysomething from another country just isn't the same as a guy around your age who goes to your school.
The fact you need wild leaps of logic and head canon to justify it kinda gives credit to the "jotaro loves dolphins more than his kid"

When I watched Part 6's ending, I had just finished Umineko, so I was able to appreciate it even more how the ending encapsulated every theme of JoJo's. Everything the series has build up until that point was expressed in such a small amount of time. It was so good it made me cry. It was definitely the best ending to any Part of the first 6.

Emporio’s Purple Truth canceled out Pucci’s Blue Truth
One thing I appreciated about Jolyne's visual theme is the butterfly and the web-like design over her outfit and her stand ability. This whole time, she was a butterfly caught in a spider's web, which I believe was a theme set to foreshadow her death at the hand of Pucci. Her tragic fate. That same fate, however, gave Emporio the inner strength he needed to prevail, ending the chain of tragedies that came before him. A wonderful theme overall.
Holy shit man, as much intentionality I know there is with Jojos character designs, that bit of symbolism didn't click with me until now. Araki took his risks and I loved Stone Ocean for it
Stone ocean feels small and lifeless compared to all the other parts. (5 is also pretty terrible) I think his heart must not have been in it.

To go with the theme of memories, I think what makes Pucci's desire so powerful is that he is man trapped in the memory of his own failure. As we see in the characters, our memories shape who we become, and the recontextualization of our memories, or letting go, can often strengthen us (Jolyne recontextualizing her memories of her father from ones of abandonment to protection for example). But Pucci is incapable of this, and as such he seeks to create a world where everyone remembers everything from the moment of their birth to their deaths, basically allowing people to already know whats gonna happen to them. This I think is the antithesis to Foo Fighters statement of "being alive means making memories" because when you already remember everything, life goes from being a journey of discovery, to a sequence of calculated dodges of misfortune until you simply pass on from old age.

Heck not even dodges, in the manga it’s implied that you can see it all coming but that fate is set in stone completely unchanging and that Pucci is the only one who can change fate and actually make things different from the predetermined outcome which was why Emporio used Pucci to give him the Weather Report disc. So it’s not even dodging misfortune but seeing all of the terrible things that are going to happen to you all laid out in front of you and just having to wait until they happen and until you inevitably die… nothing about that existence seems like Heaven to me.
And you can tell what birthed this desire in Pucci. His actions resulted in the death of his sister, and the suffering that causes him makes him wish that he knew it was going to happen. He doesn't want anyone else to feel like he did, which leads him down the path of well-intentioned villainy.

42:08 I'm really glad you talked about the significance behind Pucci's definition of "heaven", because it never made sense to me when I first watched the anime adaptation. Maybe I missed something while hating his character's guts, I'm not sure, but I didn't make the connection between mourning for Perla's death & achieving heaven by letting people know their fates... and yet, this makes a whole lot of sense.
If it's not his obsession with trying to know the odds before they happen, and avoiding taking risks that defines Pucci, I think it's narcissism. Any choice he makes, especially after meeting DIO, is made around what HE wants, what HE thinks is best for the world at large, regardless of what other people believe. He's so convinced of the success of his definition of "heaven" that he'll use anyone & everyone who proves an asset, in the misguided sense that they won't remember it anyway once he achieves heaven on Earth... and somehow, that makes him an even more terrifying threat than DIO himself.
25:53 Just want to point out that the heavy motion-blurring applied to certain scenes is most likely for TV broadcast reasons (less flickering and flashing lights = less risk of causing seizures), not to hide quality issues. Part 5 also had the same heavy motion-blurring on similar high-action scenes in its TV broadcast version, which were removed in the Blu-Ray release

I'm glad someone else appreciates how good Jolyne VS. Westwood is, it's one of the most uniquely violent and dynamic fights in the series on top having great moments for Jolyne's character arc.
I know right? Especially how Dio is like "Fucking survivor stand sucks ass" and yet is like one of the most climatic and aweesome battles, and then after being super awesome, fucking meteors start falling and it gets MORE awesone. Joyline vs Westwood is going to always be on my top x jojo fights
@@SilverAlex92 All the way. Westwood in the dub was also just given the best voice actor for absolutely no reason. I’m just wondering how DIO could give Pucci the stand if it wasn’t someone Pucci met. Can Dio steal stand??

I’ve always been a part 6 defender and big fan of Pucci as a character. Jojo is a series that looses its magic when you try to rank or rate its characters, so I’ve always been content with the idea of not having characters try to be particularly better or cooler than any that came before. Pucci is a character whose motivations and philosophy makes enough sense to be sympathetic, and that’s what makes him work well for me.
I agree. Pucci is a phenomenal villain.
And TBH, he's escaped death through his own abilities few times and got an unbelievable amounts of Ws against main characters. He's defeated Jolyne, like, 3 times, Hermes 2 times, Annasui 2 times, Weather Report once and FF once. He's also defeated (once as a surprise attack, but we count the result only) Jotaro, THE Jotaro twice. All of the mentioned were also killed by him. Ppl often forget both his motivations and his fight record, but he was the most successful villain in JJBA. Truly heavenly.

Pucci is only second to Kira in my anime only viewing opinion. That man made DIO retrospectively cooler and his backstory is an epic tragedy and his actual goal is pretty selfless although batshit crazy. And just like his opponent Jolyne, when he is faced with adversity , his resolve shines so brightly.

Foo Fighters has been one of my favorite additions to Jojos in all I've seen so far. Their entire arc and journey across stone ocean was such a good watch 🤌 their fight with White Snake trying to get the disc back to Jolyne hit me incredibly hard when I watched it. Also, if you couldn't tell by my pronoun choice, the referal to FF as "they" made me feel seen and so happy

I think you missed the best part of part 6. In the final battle, when Jotaro stops time and tries to attack Pucci and seeing Pucci threw knives at Jolyne, it isn't about "saving Jolyne or defening himself". The dilema is between saving Jolyne and saving the world (by defeating Pucci). Pucci himself stated that Jotaro was "two steps late" in hitting Pucci. Jotaro chose his daughter over the entire world after stating that he has to get to Pucci while time is stopped or they'll be finished.
The knives weren't thrown at Jotaro, only at Jolyne.
Oh, and the theme of "gravity" which is a topic that is talked about a lot (mainly by Dio and Pucci) in part 6, and is linked to fate and the Joestar bloodline
It's also a thing about memory again. Jotaro in part 4 is basically still in shock from DIO murdering his friends from part 3, eventually Koichi and Josuke giving him the ability to trust people to take care of themselves again. Then in Part 6 we get to see he has this daughter he's been hiding/hiding from to keep her safe her whole life, while he goes around saving the world. That's why the way Pucci is going to kill Jolyne matters so much, the same way DIO used. He's about to watch his worst trauma be reenacted on the most important person in his life, the same thing is happening again, he can save the world at the cost of losing the people he cares about again, and he just can't do it. Essentially Pucci beats Jotaro by proving his philosophy right about not being able to get over trauma, people needing to know and prepare for the loss they suffer. And then Jolyne and Emporio beat Pucci by proving that philosophy wrong.
That's my interpretation anyway. Part 6 concludes so many different plot threads that have run all the way since Part 1. Just to say I don't think that this is a bad ending to Jotaros character arc, in the very end he does prove Pucci wrong really. He decides to stop carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders so he can be a father, and then the entire world really does ends because of it, and it turns out it was alright in the end. He can rely on his successors to beat Pucci, and he gets to live the choice he made in the new world, as it's implied he's a real father to Jolyne this time around, and the world is intact without him.
What I absolutely loved about Pucci was his fighting. Throughout the entire part, he hadn't made a single mistake, he always kept his composure, didn't get tricked or baited into anything that could have lost him a fight unlike DIO getting too arrogant and losing because of that. Watching Pucci fight was an absolute delight. His backstory was fantastic and his connection to Weather Report made me appreciate all the effort Araki put into crafting part 6's story since until then, each Jojo part's story was pretty simple and straight-forward. The finale was one of the hypest things I've ever seen I absolutely loved Stone Ocean even despite its production flaws.
I actually like Pucci for the opposite reason. He doesnt fuck up when it matters right up until the end but you see his reaction to things throughout the part and hes always this close to losing it--he reminds me a lot of the humanness of Yoshikage Kira in that way, but his goals are far more ambitious and far reaching. I think the anime did his backstory in way too goofy a way bc the original manga where hes crying out to God "She did nothing wrong, I should be the one who's damned" is one of the most brutal moments in Jojo and really clarifies exactly where all his motivation comes from: purified Catholic guilt. Like how Jolyne is a cumulation of all the other Jojos, Pucci's really a great cumulation of all the previous Joefoes (Dio's ambition for eternity, Diavolo's psychological torment, Yoshikage Kira's humanity, Kars's overwhelming existential threat, etc..)

He lamented how interesting it was that a good person with noble goals (far more than pucci) preached about using power for the good of mankind, but in a small moment of intimacy between himself, you just see him briefly revel in the glory and self satisfaction of what he’s created, thinking only of himself.

It’s a moment that echoed through me hard, when seeing pucci; someone who claimed to be doing what he’s done for the good of mankind and all those who died in the process were unintentional collateral damage
Yet he so brazenly looked down upon and knocked the people he was claiming to save off and away like flies when he was THIS close to actually succeeding in what he set out to do. Why?
To end some petty feud with the joestars and ice literally one kid, literally inadvertently providing him with the all the means necessary for to actually defeat.
Like a perfect marriage between Pucci’s previous pragmatic impartial nature to cover all his basis and his very clear insecurities at being bested by people he perceives as beneath him.
And this is all coming from someone who’s an anime only, just finished SO a few weeks ago after watching the whole thing late and weekly blind and doesn’t even like him much to begin with 💀

@@theradionicrevival8068 I do respect your view of him bc its basically very close to my own with a few differences. I think when people make the argument that Pucci has a selfless goal they're missing the point of his character: he is ultimately a man consumed by his past and determined to make things right by forcing a vision of the world that he thinks would've made his own mistakes easier to swallow. He's not a crusader in the sense that he constantly quotes the Bible, but in the sense that he fully believes his world is the most ideal and everyone else needs to see it, which is way more accurate to how actual fundamentalists are without necessarily painting him as a Christian caricature. He sees everyone and everything as a tool to his ultimate purpose as the harbinger of a new dawn, but that also means he recognizes even his enemies as a worthy building block for his goal (see: him backseat gaming Versace throughout Underworld bc hes an asshole and also bc hes 100% certain Jolyne Cujoh has a way stronger "destiny" than Versace).
As for why I think the anime made his backstory goofier than it had to be, I'm sorry, but its just the key animations and imagery. Like One Piece is Real Pucci became an entire meme because that still of Pucci crying looks bizarre as hell--I just think the manga did it better based on the fact that Arakis art is more palatable, but thats also bc im biased towards the manga's artstyle in general.
(SPOILERS) Thats why the way Emporio brutally kills him is so cool. By that point,Pucci is a god. The only thing standing in his way is this shitty little boy,he goes after him as if he is chasing an ant. Emporio seems so afraid...until he lures Pucci into the room and tricks him into giving him WRs stand. The panel with the disc entering Emporio is probably my favorite in Jojo. The look on Emporio's eyes is terrifying,hes just like "Yeah Im gonna absolutely murder you" then his strategy of filling the air with CO2 is so good. Slowly crushing Pucci's head,he just cant believe it. Hes like no way this is happening. Its so sudden. A god getting outplayed by a kid
The thing about Pucci is that he is the complete form of all previous villains before him when it comes to the overarching theme of FATE in JoJo.
DIO feeling like peace of mind is true happiness and then finding out in part 6 he wished to control fate to achieve that. Kira wanting to get away with everything within the constraints of fate, staying in Morioh and defying it with an ability to reverse time. Diavolo wanting to skip fate entirely and be the one in control of his own, erasing his existence and being immune to its effects. But all of them suffered for it, because as JoJo puts it, fate sides with justice. Fate always corrects itself to side with the just.
And Pucci is a concentrated form of all those previous villains. Inspired by the first one, DIO, to go as far as possible to control fate, by making it entirely obsolete, with attaining Heaven leading to everyone knowing their fates. For a series marked by the theme of destiny and the protagonists being on the right side of it, you have a villain who does everything right to dismantle it and eventually succeedings in basically destroying the very concept of fate. And in doing so, the protagonist is killed and defeated.
But in the new universe, who else is left but Emporio, to defeat Pucci. And he does so with the memory of Jolyne by his side and the aide of Weather Report, the original sin in Pucci's backstory that's put him on this path of attaining Heaven. As infinitely close as he got, Pucci didn't yet have his perfect Heaven, and he couldn't, because through that unimaginably small keyhole remaining, Fate got through. Pucci was punished in the most fitting way possible, Weather finally getting his revenge.
All previous villains got defeated in a poetic way, the message of the story being delivered to them. For Pucci, who defied fate so intensely he nearly completely eradicated it, was beaten in a way where all his efforts since the beginning of the story now no longer exist, as there's a new universe where all those ever hurt by him are living happy, prosperous lives. This is all quite unstructured rambling, but I think it's important to note how Araki peaked in his "fate/gravity/destiny" thematic writing with part 6. Part 7 and 8 would go on to have new concepts and themes that resemble that, but part 6 is where the original timeline culminates and it does so with a beautiful end.
You literally put into words what I've been saying since I first read part 6. I wish more people saw this part for how incredible it truly is.
The man that wanted all men to know their fate, will never know his for does not have one anymore. A fitting end to a priest preaching the teachings of a false God.
Jolyne Cujoh is honestly a masterpiece of character design.
I completely understand why someone could dislike that ending, but I found it so impactful and the more time I've allowed to think on it, the more I love it.
Also, MAN do I hope Steel Ball Run's anime adaptation is giving more love than Stone Ocean's.
Or at least a better release schedule! The weird hybrid batch release Stone Ocean got was baffling and momentum-killing.

They just need to fix the release schedule. I'm lucky I stumbled in these series when it was already out. But I couldn't imagine myself waiting almost a YEAR for another batch when the story is just building up.
@@JackgarPrime Foreal, i thought the anime was pretty good overall, but underwhelming given the wait and confusing that they really laid off marketing for it. Still one of my favorite parts in general

I feel like you really undersold the final fight with Pucci. Emporio didn't just "flood his blood with oxygen" and "beat him with some clouds." It was a perfect meld between Emporio's ability and Weather Forecast's, using the sealed pocket dimension's nature means he could control the weather in a literal vacuum, and he used Pucci's time ability against him to make the room flood with pure oxygen quicker. He used that exact same ingenuity that you praised Jolyne for using during some of her best fights, and ironically used Weather Forecast's ability more faithfully to the original idea than Weather Forecast himself with that weird out of left field snail shit.
Emporio's way of ending Pucci was hype as hell and I refuse to agree with thinking it's bullshit. Josuke didn't get the final blow against his big bad either. The only difference is Jotaro is a cool strong man and Emporio is a smart kid. If that's not the perfectly fitting ending for everything that Part 6 stood for, I don't know what would have been.
Also the karma of Pucci being done in by his deceased brother's Stand. There's that bit too.
Emporio was the small detail he overlooked. Just like every other Jojo villain Pucci got cocky, overlooked one small thing, in this case Emporio and got his shit wrecked as a result. A God brought low by a mere child.

YES. Emporio is tied for "most badass kid in Jojo's" with Hayate from part 4, and Kid Jotaro in Stardust Crusaders.
To be fair, that was framed as him expressing how he felt on the very first reading before giving himself some time to simmer over and think about it. I would assume he is, in fact, actually aware of the greater nuances, etc. of the situation, he was just giving you a slice of his frustrated mindset when he first hit the ending. Something to note about the anime is that the Chief Director of Part 5 who also had a hand in directing all previous parts, Naokatsu Tsuda, didn't work on Part 6. This is strange because he has previously talked about wanting to adapt all future parts. I hope we see him back in Part 7, because I really do think he played a key role in making the Part 5 adaptation as good as it was.

I'd say a different theme of Part 6 is love for another, fueled by our memories of them. This is how Anasui can be tied into the cast, by his love of Jolyne and her determination. Jolyne's seiyuu Fairouz Ai even says that Jolyne's source of her strength and determination is her love: of her father, of her mother, of her friends, and of her life to come. She wants to see the stars, after all.
We see everyone's love crystallized in memories and discs, but Jolyne uses her love to keep going and inspires everyone to do the same. Jolyne's love for Emporio gave him the courage to fight back. While he can never see her again, he'll always have the memories of her love, and maybe he can still feel it in Irene.
34:56 That's true but in the anime they didn't understood how Whitesnake illusions work. During the Visitor Arc fight in the manga Jolyne noticed that the illusion she was trapped in, has begun after inhaling the smoke of the cigarette on the table of the room. Then consider how EVERY occasion in which Whitesnake uses its illusion power it's explicitly stated and shown there's a some type of fog.
1--> cigarette's smoke in the visitor arc
2--> Weather Report's fog during the Jolyne vs Pucci fight used to let F.F. escape from the priest
3--> The dust kicked up by the car accident Jolyne, Ermes and Versus were involved in that let Pucci defeat Weather

Even if they don't get to adapting part 7 anytime soon Part 6 was just a great end to the Joestar saga, where the Joestars can maybe find a modicum of peace and not have to fight their whole lives anymore

The adaption of the finale vs Pucci's Made in Heaven was one of the best things in anime ever period. The sound design as Pucci moves with his unperceivable speed alone is enough to make me rewatch the second to last episode until I can speak the Japanese dub fluently lmao. The last stand of Jotaro and then Jolyne before the universe reset is so fantastically done too. Just wonderful.

The issue with Gold Experience is less so abilities just randomly being given to it(Besides the reflecting, they’re all in line with giving *life),* but the fact that it was just broken and that Giorno was too goddamned smart.
Stone Free’s always been my favorite in terms of ability and design, but I just love Josuke.
I mean... Jolyne's still taller and stronger than most women, especially Japanese women, but that actually works in her favor because it marks her as a deviation from both the norms of the Joestar clan and Japanese femininity at large, being smaller and more feminine than her Joestar predecessors, but broader and stronger than a woman is expected to be.
She's an underdog and an outsider, and her design highlights this, since her unusual height and musculature for a woman (and the fact that she's a woman in a series largely headed by men) would make her an outlier among Shonen Jump protagonists, much like how she's the odd woman out in the Joestar lineage and Green Dolphin penitentiary.
Araki is a genius character designer.
She's hot :)
Araki tends to draw characters as being more muscular than normal (Kira lives a modest life and only does enough exercise to remain healthy, but the guy's shredded) unless there's specific reason not to. Jolyne's design is smart, but being built like a statue kinda is the norm for JoJo characters.
I really liked how Jolyne beat Jail House Rock by writing "if someone keeps looking at your hand just start swinging "
Stone Ocean is a great arc. Araki really knows how to surpass his limits with each new iteration of the jojos verse.

Out of all JoJos, I do find Giorno & Jolyne to be the most interesting and it's no surprise that I'm liking Jodio from Part 9 as well.
They are all thoughtful and virtuous (depending on their respective upbringing) and are being put through uncomfortable situations (mafia, prison, drugs)
Jodio doesn't seem all that virtuous to me. Sure, he defended his brother from SA and is doing this to support his mum, but he's a bit too enthusiastic about it. He doesn't seem to have any qualms about funding drug habits, he actually seems to relish all this. Plus, he has psychopathy, so he isn't really all that of an empathetic person.
I hope Jodio becomes what I always wanted from Giorno.

Part 6 is simply amazing, it's where Araki changed his style again and took the first steps of what would eventually become his more "mature" and even "philosophical" style of writing in the new universe, and watching this transition unfolds is what makes part 6 my favorite
Part 6 always felt like a snake shedding its skin to me. If Araki switched to Ultra Jump for Part 6 I believe it would have Part 7 status.

While I think it's a real shame how David Productions didn't get the same amount of talent for the Part 6 anime they got for previous parts, I do want to give a shoutouts to Stone Ocean's soundtrack, because that often hit really well.
Honestly, by following up the part 6 ending with part 7 and committing to the bit, Araki made an incredibly courageous decision and carried it off.

Knowing Netflix I'm at this point more surprised that they didn't just cancel part 6 after first two thirds of it than I'm disappointed of how they messed up another one of their properties. Seems like that company has been doing nothing else but taking massive Ls within last couple of years.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, for me, is a masterpiece, especially after Part 6. It has become the third greatest anime I have ever seen. JoJo is just a completely different anime from all the other anime in the world.

@@Lebowski92 not the original commentor but I thought I'd give my thoughts too! Its special to me because while it is outlandish and unrealistic, there's still a lot of humanity and realism within the characters, especially after part 6. I can 100% accept it isn't the best thing ever written, but its special to me, regardless of what people say about it.
Part 6 reminds me most of Part 2. Both protagonists aren't really the strongest, they're not ndcessarily weak, but you can really see that their strengths are really in their cunning and creativity.
Can we talk about the fact that Jolyne becoming Irene and no longer being a Jojo is so subtle but cool? And to double down on this, all of the protags from the first 6 parts that directly deal with Dio or Dio's legacy, Jonathan, Joeseph, Jotaro, and Jolyne, all have direct "JoJo" first last name combinations. Josuke Higashikata, can be misread as a JoJo, but his dealings with Dio are more coincidental than anything. Giorno deals with Dio's legacy in a very different way, given it is he himself that is that legacy, but he isn't quite a JoJo, instead a GioGio, a combination of a proper Jojo but a little different (G) and Dio (io).
One thing I will say for the cast of part 6, as a group, is that they are all survivors. A major part of part 6, at least for myself, is watching 'othered' people grow to survive. I also love Jolene's growth as a badass, but she needed to do it for her survival, her family, and those around her. In turn this haphazard group grows with her, and that's inspiring to me. It's easier in my mind for a community, gang, or a group of friends to learn to fight together against one single evil, than it is for othered people to fight major systems (manmade institutions, human cruelty, nature, weather, or even conceptual things like memory or time). In that respect, I love the part 6 group. And yeah, I'll admit I'm swayed by seeing female characters goof off and bond while also kicking ass in a shonen title.
Jolene is wrongfully convicted (by a male dominated system, and done so by the man she loved at the time) and she goes from happy teenager to simply convict with a number. Hermes lived in poverty and the one person that helped her was her sister, and once again the system failed her when she discovers her sisters murder survived. Emporio is a ghost child with no chance of growing into an adult with his own new life, only memories before the adventure. Weather Report is suffering from amnesia, it makes him different from the other convicts and can even be looked at as his othering from other members that recall exactly who they are (he doesn't have a basis to relate to the other convicts with). Anasui is fascinating, not only non gender conforming but also his intense mental acuity makes him very obsessive and, in a turn, non neurotypical. FF literally comes from something humans would consider a lesser lifeform.
Plus, I do find it fascinating that Father Pucci finds safety in his position, inside a religious institution. It makes a great foil to the rest of the cast.
Part 6, is messy, but it had a lot of thought thrown into it. That makes it endlessly fun to pick apart to me, so I really appreciate your video spotlighting both it and the rest of the Jojo's!

The ending to Part 6 is one of my favorite stories I have ever experienced particularly because I see a lot of myself in Emporio - dependent, nervous, but desperate to be helpful to others - and a lot of my real life sister in Jolyne - strong, kind, and kind of a badass. Seeing Emporio have to say goodbye to Jolyne, who he has genuinely begun to consider a sister-figure, made me really emotional, thinking about how one day I may have to do the same while also reminding me of how I felt when she left home for college for the first time. It let me instantly connect to the story and put myself in the shoes of this character put in the toughest circumstances and yet managing to move forward anyways.
I'm surprised there was no mention of SO being animated at least partially during the height of covid. I really do think that played a big part in the quality drop of part 6
For part 6 I think David Productions were in a tough place as far as production schedules, and the release dates. They also had other shows to produce like the newly releases Yatsura Urusai. Looking at Part 5 we know David Productions can throw down on animation, I think the conditions were unideal this round. Hopefully the blu-ray release they will be able to tidy things up they wanted too originally. They did the best they could all things considered.
The ending is extremely bittersweet. With the theme of memory, having to go to an alternate universe with people without them, kinda meams they effectively died. Hopefully, Emporio builds new memories with his friends.
The production value in Part 6 not being the best is due to change in leadership and direction at David Productions. The anime was handled by lesser experienced employees while the more veteran ones where working on the Studios other projects. 2021-2022 was the bussiest time for David Productions (so far) which might be an additional reason to why the production dipped in quality.

That makes sense. Between batch 2 and batch 3 I revisited the Golden Wind anime, and the difference was night and day: the backgrounds were more vibrant, the animation more punchy, the OSTs more memorable, the framing more inspired. I was so confused why Part 6 downgraded so heavily
Probably the main problem for the Stone Ocean anime was their tight schedules due to Netflix releasing many episodes at once and to not be a weekly release

I've always had a soft spot for Part 6 and love the risks Araki took to make the stand battles and the ending absolutely bonkers. It was such a treat to see over the story Jolyne growing into a badass and coming up with incredibly creative ways to use her stand. Pucci might just be the best villian so far since he is very fleshed out with his backstory and personality which come with a lot of subtle nuances.
My only real criticism is that the supporting characters aren't as fleshed out and don't have the same sense of unity as in Part 5 where this was at its strongest in the series (although I like the Part 6 cast overall better individually). Part 5 did an amazing job making us care about each character which had a bigger impact when they were finally killed off.

I think a big part of part 6 being severely underrated is the fact that many people speed-read it just to get to part 7. The anime adaptation however got me and many people to love it. A shame Netflix had this shitty release schedule though
I think the setting was the best idea for the entire series. Having a prison full of nightmare monsters with super powers was such an interesting angle.
This was a fantastic video and was a great break down. But the speech at the end. That was something I REALLY needed man. After a tragic lost in my family I've been so paranoid about losing those close to me or dying myself. Scared to do anything because I could be gone any day now. So, having such a meaningful breakdown of life and memory is really something that I needed to hear. Thank you!

With regards to the motion blur on stand rush barrages, it's always been a problem with the TV footage in every part, they always fix it in the blu rays.

Yeah, Stone Ocean really blew my mind. Genuinely felt incredibly sad watching it unfold, as it made me feel like the end of an era was happening right there and then. this feeling was even more amplified because my son got into JoJo and I watched a lot of it with him, including watching Part 6 together, our journeys with these stories meeting at the end. I love stone Ocean and even though it's not my favorite, I'll always treasure the memory of watching and experiencing it with my son.

Reading stone ocean years ago was one of the most surreal experiences I've had in manga.

When SEW started talking about his gripes with the anime, I braced myself, having gotten all to used to people complaining about the excessive use of CGI just because it's CGI and ignoring the actual quality of it. It was pleasantly surprising when he instead presented an actual well-constructed criticism about the art direction and didn't mention the CG even once.
I only got into JoJo about 6 months ago after a couple of failed attempts at reading the manga a few years ago. On a whim I decided to try watching the anime and when I started I failed to realize that I’d started, not at the beginning, but at part 6. Jolyne managed to do what no other JoJo I’d encountered could. She captured my attention and got me invested instantly. Needless to say I fell down the rabbit hole and have been suffering from JoJo brain rot ever since. Jolyne’s story is incredibly powerful and she’ll always hold a special place in my heart for being the catalyst that got me interested in this series.

I'm so glad you went into exactly what I love about Pucci - his whole worldview stemming from that inability to accept the horrible mistake in his past. And re: the evolving nature of Stands and their relationships to their users throughout this part, one thing I always found really interesting is how Pucci and Whitesnake start out so different but then become more alike. Early on in the story, Pucci has quite a few moments where he seems doubtful about succeeding and has to collect himself with the prime numbers thing, whereas Whitesnake's dialog is almost always very arrogant. Using Whitesnake as a mouthpiece not only hides his identity, but comes off as him putting on a more confident front to the rest of the world (side note, I love characters who have false personas, which is why Kira is another one of my favorite Jojo villains). He has *exchanges of dialog* with his Stand - it's a part of himself, yet a part he kind of treats as separate at the same time. Then, once he makes contact with the Green Baby and leaves the prison to start the final stage of his plans, Pucci begins talking a lot more trash to the heroes, and Whitesnake's number of individual lines drops sharply (of course the 'villain's secret identity' thing didn't matter at this point, but still). It's like the two halves became more of a whole, reflecting Pucci's certainty that "Heaven" was not only going to be achieved, but that it was RIGHT for him to do so. In a way, it's like he goes through his own darker mirror of Jolyne's character arc, with very bad consequences...up until the end, because that increased conviction didn't change the fact that he was still a man living in denial. Oh my god, writing this is making me realize even more how ironic it is. Jolyne saw that she was in an unwinnable situation and accepted it, which is what Pucci claimed to have wanted for all humanity, but that still ended up leading to his defeat!
I love how violent and dickish Pucci is once he fuses with the Green Baby and gets the new haircut. It’s like he’s slowly BECOMING DIO.
It's ABOUT DAMN TIME somebody gave Stone Ocean the praise it deserves. It is absolutely my favorite as well.
Part 6 has the best ending in my opinion “ didn’t read part 7-8”, it left me with a void but also happiness and at the same time sadness, in other words mix feelings
I would say Part 6 has the most impactful ending of the franchise. I wouldn't say it's the best, which I think it's from Part 7, but it has the most impactful and brave ending of them all. Not many shows wouldn't try to make an ending similar to this one.

Loved your videos as always! But you left out one of the most important things about the ending. The fact that Pucci wanted to recreate a universe without the Joestars. And after he lost, the universe resets in a reality where Dio's Curse does not affect them, so Jolyne/Irene had a happy relationship with his dad and still is forming bonds with the cast of part 6 in a happy way.
That's it's part of the sour beauty of the Stone Ocean's ending

i dont know if this was mentioned but one of my favorite part of Stone Ocean is the reality of it, the fact that Jolyne is as human as everyone else. Even if she's beating the crap out of someone, her theme gets cut off because there was an angle she didn't realize. We got so used to a Stand Rush meaning the end of the fight that the cut-off of her theme and a surprise injury is so jarring and I love it
I've been in a stable relationship for the past 10 years, but we decided to break up recently and my life is upside down right now. I hit reset and everything changed a lot, even how I view things in general. And that has been ultra scary.
And that's also why I teared up at the end of this video. Thank you for helping me get that message from Part 6 and making me love this part even more.

This entire video i couldn't help but feel cathartic. The moment i saw the title, i couldn't help but feel cathartic. Someone has finally put my exact opinion on part 6 out there for everyone to see in a way i myself never could. And not just anyone, but Supereyepatchwulf himself. What a blessed day, i thought.
And yet, it still felt bittersweet. Even you, who's managed time and time again to sell me on the sincere greatness of batshit crazy titles, wrestling and fucking Garfield for christs sake, who's managed it through sheer emotion and passion seeping through every line of your scripts; even you could not convince me, that my favourite Jojo part was actually good.
I always felt like Stone Ocean was a huge step forward for Araki as a writer. Featuring his first ever non-static protagonist and tying together all of the loose... threads (get it?) and themes from previous parts - it really should have been the ultimate finale to the original timeline. I could go on an on about just how much i love the first couple of volumes, and how richly and vividly they portray Jolyne as a PERSON and not a stoic undefeatable mannequin. For the first time reading this series it felt REAL.
If only it lasted.

All i will say is, fuck "The Visitor" and fuck "The Prisoner of Love" for God knows, if i go any fucking further into exactly how much Araki screws up to live up to his ambitions throughout this part, i will literally end up writing a review of my own, which i should rather do in my own video.
It seems to have been just a little too much for him to handle. A little bit too drastic of a change. And the narrative just couldn't NOT suffer. And it did so like never before. And even despite how much i love the stands and the fights and the themes and just the whole grand scheme IDEA of it all, i will never be able to bring myself to say that Stone Ocean is an actually worth while cohesive piece of writing. And its just ever so sad that not even you could put it all into some sort of new perspective.

F.F. was the character that made me cry for Part 6. I had no idea who she was from the start, (I had seen the ending of the part before.) And just her personality and her conclusion is amazing. And even knowing the ending in advance, it did still hit for me with all the context I had missing.

Stone Ocean, and in fact ALL of JoJos Bizzare Adventure has inspired me in so many ways. Many days i have felt like Jolyne; trapped, defeated and facing impossible odds, yet i still push through. I keep fighting against it all. I hope to one day meet araki and just thank him for inspiring me and creating the best piece of art of the modern day.

it's honestly super helpful to, when planning your own characters for your own fiction, writing it in super eyepatch wolf's voice. idk makes it so much easier to add depth

Survivor is really cool..I just always preferred the more "puzzle" fights, that leant more into horror and slow building tension.
When Roundabout came in at the end I just cried, mate. Like that harmonic note in the beginning rippled through my soul like I was a frog getting hit by hamon. My mind went right back to when I watched part 1 for the first time a decade ago. These stories just have so much damn heart. And foril, I need more love for the music. When the stone ocean theme comes in when she beats westwood, ya boi was out of his mind. And I shat myself every time I heard Pucci's theme. Jojo is best. To anyone saying otherwise I say Daga Kotowaru.
It's my favorite part too. I really love Jolyne and her growth, it's nice to see her become a badass.
I wasn't prepared for that ending, everything was happening so fast, I couldn't process it until the day after. It was so impactful, sad, and hopeful at the same time.
Man, I cry everytime What a wonderful world plays. And I remember her, and her sacrifice for the future and I feel proud for her.
Once again your are phrasing words about a media that I helped me to get through life. Wonderfull and poetic like ever. Thank you for this video and every video you ever made.
