- Feels good to finally get a couple more Avocado Trees in the Ground. The Gwen (Toro Canyon Rootstock): Gwen (A) and Whitsell (B) are semi-dwarf descendents of Hass that were developed to replace Hass. Both are excellent producers with excellent quality fruit
GEM (Zerala Rootstock): (probably mostly Guatemalan) 7-11 oz., pear-shaped fruit with rough, thick, black skin flecked with gold. Excellent quality, better than Hass. Easy to peel. Harvest March-September. Good production, less alternate than Hass. Small tree. Bloom type A. Developed from Gwen by UC researcher Gray E. Martin.🥑Avocado Talk🥑

I've seen a few photos of Wurtz/LittleCado planted in ground. It will form a wide, spreading tree - despite being marketed as a dwarf type.

Hey REM - Very exciting! 2 more trees in the ground. Perfect conditions for planting right now here is SoCal. How would you compare the Gwen flavor to an SC Gold?
Hi REM Good job on the sand. I had a couple yards delivered and used about a wheelbarrow per tree doing 14 trees this season (3 thanks to you!) leftover sand just get mixed into the garden area. Only issue is my 3 cats

I'm in north California (Humboldt County) I've had the Wurz in the ground for about 6 years, I have others in ground not quite a s long. I notice you mentioned your Wurtz isn't producing much, mine hasn't either. We had a freak winter this year, very cold, even had snow on the ground for a day but the Wurtz came through pretty good but very little flowering and no avocados. Is slow production typical of Wurtz?
