    nixie/nicole - thank you for all your marvelous backlog of helpful videos. i am very glad you are out there, and yes, fighting for us users (and coders) and not the sponsors. i am so very sorry when you first decided to express yourself and your love of tech and wanting to share that, that there were people out there, particularly guys, who attacked you so horribly. ugh. good on you for not caving into it. those people make me feel sad for them - tech should be the great level playing field, for all races, genders, nationalities, beliefs (even none), human-kind in general, all contributing positively to build up, not tear down or needlessly attack. i have been playing with switch-booting ubuntu on a chromebook and your tips in your linux videos have been so very helpful to me. please know you have fans out here who got your back. hope the trip back from japan was easier. be well and thank you for all that you do to spread your knowledge and appreciation of tech. as they said in galaxy quest - never give up, never surrender!

    I guess the only concern I have is that, people who don't help through Patreon, will they be left out on content? Or will those who contribute, be eligible for 1-on-1 tech support and perhaps more personal videos (videos showing them something they request).

      A really good question, and the answer is "absolutely not!" Patrons of my creation would get additional stuff but I will continue to make my normal videos at the same pace, and even faster!
      My dream: If I have enough funds I will hire an editor -- which if you know me, you'll know that editing is the BANE of my existence and part of the reason videos take a bit to be published in the first place. (¬‿¬)

    I'd use patreon but only if regular content is produced. I subscribed to you because I found your videos interesting. I don't need tech support or live streams with you or the ability to call on you day and night.
    I'd just like to see you make more videos, regularly. If patreon helps you do just that, I'm in!
    Why patreon and not subbable? Because I already have a patreon account where I back other youtubers, and I can't be arsed opening yet another account just for one youtuber. Patreon seems pretty damn polished top from a subscription model perspective.

      @The Pervy Prepper honestly? Thanks for the reference but t
      3rd party linking in general can be shady. I'd just CNAME a domain like buynixiecoffee.com and have it link to all the things 😉
      Also link tree may be okay.. I think the core issue is that you're beholden to a hosted solution for all your content so unless you have other ways to supplement your income, you can't (and should have never) relied solely on UA-cam 💜

    Re your crowed funding idea? Go for it. If you're producing good content, and you always do, people should be willing to part with a little cash. So it comes down to the size of your audience.

    I'm more of a 3d Blender animation type of guy and I know 1 Blender user that does free Blender tutorials on UA-cam. That's not how he makes most of income tho. He also creates expensive hardcore user tutorials that entirely cover some artistic medium in Blender. So, I thought, maybe you could make a series of hardcore Linux tutorials, and sell the series on your website, or something like that.

      Doesn't matter! There are, literally, thousands of us that make tutorials for Blender. We aren't even competing with each other really, cause some people just like the way some tutorial makers do things. I recently had a few subscribers ask me to do a tutorial on UV unwrapping in Blender. Mind you, I'm an animator. I gave them links to tutorials that I thought were good. They said they already tried those, and said they just like the way I explain things. I'm not very good at all, but hey whatever. It was a simple tutorial. The more options people have the better. No1 loses.

    Miss, I'm sorry that you have to be treated like a little child, and purely as an object of visual gratification. I dislike feminism, but I'm also sorry women have to be treated this way. I respect any lady that enjoys herself in this science, despite the disgusting comments of people. You seem like an awesome person, and are one of the most beautiful-est ladies I've seen(maybe I just have a thing for redheads), and I appreciate what you do(even though I don't have a Linux-ubuntu association). Keep it up and God bless!!!!

    Pay no mind to the Zachary Bittners of the world. The reason they're so quick to troll is because they believe the technology world is some kind of "no girls allowed" club.
    Well...that's a crock of shit.

    I'm relatively new to this channel and Linux in general, but I really want to thank you for all the work put in those videos. Before I discovered them, Linux seemed so cryptic and now I enjoy it and can't stop learning how to properly use it. Also i want to say that I respect you very much, not just for all the help you offered along the years to people like me who needed it, but also because you had the courage to continue making youtube videos even if at the begining people didn't appreciate your efforts, a courage and determination not many people have (myself included:) ). You have some good ideas for the future and I will gladly support them. I hope you will manage to get home soon.
    "Once upon a time, from the obscure world of command lines a penguin rose, with the confidence he could change the world. Time has passed and soon his ideas started to grow and inspire, the dreaming penguin turning slowly, but surely into an OS army, everyone being unique in his own way. All over the OpenSource World there was chaos until Nixie came, the One Lady to rule over them all ... and bring the power of terminal and the mysterious force of Bash Commands to everyones desktop."
    Sorry for all the grammar mistakes and for taking over the comment section, just felt like typing. :)

    I just discovered you and your channels. In posting this I have looked at videos from both Nixie Pixel and Geekbuzz. First, I find your videos informative. They give bottom line assessments without a lot of quibbling or a loss of fairness. Second, I have watched several of the Alt OS videos. The presentations there are more polished and exhibit more confidence than in earlier videos. Finally, in light of what was said here, you have to pay the bills like everyone else. I did not block the ads in the Alt OS videos. They are brief, to the point, and oddly enough, informative themselves. It's not that I haven't heard of Netflix, but not being in the business, I was not familiar with some of the other sites. I will leave them unblocked.
    I picked up on your channels while looking around for things that protect privacy, escape tracking and trying to figure out why the latest TOR browser can't be accessed by all users from the applications folder in El Capitan OS X. But I liked the other topics also. I downloaded LibreOffice program from your spot. I usually don't comment on anything on the Tube, although I will answer questions occasionally. For the first time ever, I am going to actually subscribe to a UA-cam channel, both of them. (I spend as much time on UA-cam as on regular TV.) The approach has stayed fresh over eight years and the presentations have gone from being very good to professional without being slick. Keep up the good work!

    Zachary Bittner Stop being a Douche. If you don't like it that much don't watch then go and troll some one else. Nixie Pixel has helped me some with some cool videos and for other stuff I had to look else where. nando fiction Because its disingenuous. She is asking all of us for money and I am part of a collective of "all of us" I am pointing out that if she wants my money, all she has to be is real and genuine. I do not find her to be either.
      Or are you of the opinion that the only comments that should be allowed are supportive ones and all criticism should be silenced. Because we all know, if there is something that tech journalism is missing, its circle jerking and grandstanding. Right?

    • @nandofiction
      @nandofiction 10 років тому

      People find her genuine though. Your opinion is OK for you to have but dude it is yours. She might be viewed differently by others and if they feel the need to support her in the time of need then so be it.

    • @ZacharyBittner
      @ZacharyBittner 10 років тому

      nando fiction People can have their opinion as well, and they express their opinion of support often. I don't care and have only commented back to people who have challenged my opinion. You don't see me calling people douche's for expressing their opinions of support. So what exactly is your problem?

    • @nandofiction
      @nandofiction 10 років тому

      I never said you can't have an opinion. But you definition of genuine is slightly off. She is herself as far as anyone can tell and that is genuine. But you are right calling you a douche was out of line and I apologise

    • @ZacharyBittner
      @ZacharyBittner 10 років тому

      nando fiction According to www.nixiepixel.com/about-nixiepixel/
      she refers to herself as "gamer girl", "wild gamer chick".
      Ok, lets see this title of "gamer"
      www.xboxgamertag.com/search/NixiePlays/
      steamcommunity.com/id/nixiepixel/games/?tab=all
      yeahhh..... not really impressive. I don't consider myself a gamer and here is mine.
      steamcommunity.com/id/abandersnatch/
      If Nixie Pixel is a gamer. I must be divine gaming god.
      Wouldn't you say that her referring to herself as a gamer is disingenuous? I would point out that her self described "geek" and "nerd" is also disingenuous, but this is the easiest and most obvious to point out.

    Hello Nicole aka Mrs. Pixel, I am a 26 year old guy who has done manual labor for 7 years to help my family with money (it was a very stressful time), with that I could not get into computer tech or even could afford a computer because of my situation until this past year. I say that because anybody that tries to put you down tell them to go to Hell because from the videos I have seen, you have worked your ass off, never forget that. I could not give a crap if someone was male or female with learning about tech stuff. I am the only guy in my family learning about computer technology (this is my first real year of it) and with myself being a blank slate I want to learn everything I can. Thank you for your videos.

    I just want to say thank you.
    I started with Ubuntu a few years ago. I remember when I was weighing the pros and cons of doing this. I watched some of your videos and you made Linux seem more accessible to me.
    You describe yourself as awkward, but yet you have a way of making people feel welcome. To me, you encapsulate the open source spirit. I’ve never talked to you, yet you’re a friendly face that doesn’t just spit out fourtran like English in monotonous drawl.
    Like you, I encountered a lot of snobbery and ugly behavior when I started dabbling with various Linux distros. Basically, “tech hipsters” who “liked Linux before it was coo” and embody everything that I would picture with a closed source community or an “exclusive club”.
    To me, open source is supposed to be like family. It’s blood, sweat and tears. People working together to make something that is accessible and functional.
    Anyway, it’s been a lonely world for me in the Linux community. You’ve given me hope that there are nice people out there that just want to help. So, again, thank you. Also, I would totally be willing to help you out in any way that I can.

    I am glad you didn't quit doing what you do. Got yourself another subscriber. Also, Patreon is a new and better way of actually earning something from what you do, since youtube started being so much more aggressive with content control. You keep going, it's nice to see people getting out of the crowd with stuff like this, it related and even more linux related, guys or girls, it doesn't matter. The simple fact that she or anyone else raises awareness to the Linux community and Linux based operating systems, it's a great thing. They are a lot of people that would be so much better of with using this over windows/mac. Because the more people use Linux, the more the big companies that make software and games will have to adopt making their products available to linux. Some will say, but the big companies won't go open source with their products, and won't give them for free.Yea, you are true, but that is because no one thought of coming up with a new business model for this type of products. Look at all the "free to play" games that are doing just fine, and some even thriving based on a "free game". We need a change in terms of software/game development, and that change can only come if more people adopt open source software. Good luck with your channel and video and keep supporting the open source community. PS: I'm pretty sure no one will read this comment because it's to long =)).
