I'm torn. This rendition of Nick Drake's composition, I find, is best experienced with my eyes closed and yet watching these cats is like actually witnessing Picasso paint. The perfect dilemma...
Amen to that. I feel the same way about the new trio with Jeff ballard. That is my favorite trio I'd have to say. Brad and his guys are taking the music to another level not yet seen or heard. We are blessed to be witnessing it in out time. Peace, Teddy
Oh geez, you’re right. Serves me right for being so eager to point out a “mistake.” In my defense, I had just watched a Julian Lage/Jorge Roeder video. :)
Super video. Thanks. I saw Grenadier & Ballard last week with Mark Turner as the 'Fly Trio'. Incredible music making. If you have a chance to see them do so.
Betty came by on her way Said she had a word to say 'Bout things today And fallen leaves Said she hadn't heard the news Hadn't had the time to choose A way to lose But she believes [Chorus] Gonna see the river man Gonna tell him all I can About the plan For lilac time If he tells me all he knows 'Bout the way his river flows And all night shows In summertime [Verse 2] Betty said she prayed today For the sky to blow away Or, maybe stay She wasn't sure For when she thought of summer rain Calling for her mind again She lost the pain And stayed for more [Chorus] Gonna see the river man Gonna tell him all I can About the ban On feeling free If he tells me all he knows 'Bout the way his river flows I don't suppose It's meant for me [Outro] Oh, how they come and go Oh... how they come, go
Nice interpretation of one of Nick Drake's best songs. With respect to Brad Meldau, he's better listened to than watched. Besides, Bill Evans has already been done.
@ArseneWengerIsGod i think you need to understand who nick drake actually is before ever thinking his fans could ever get 'pissed off'' hah. lovely version by mehldau
You know, I understand about getting into the music, but the piano player is just being a poseur. C'mon, it's just a fucking song. Some singing would have been nice too as the song has a brilliant lyric. I wanted to really like it, but I don't.
Brad Mehldau is not a poser. He always plays from the heart and has no reason to do otherwise. You must not be at familiar with his music to say such a thing. He is the real deal and picked this song to play because he loves it. He bears his heart and soul every time he plays.
Thank you @tedgioia for linking this in your substack.. amazing.. parts brought me to tears.

So we are the river, all together, all alone, all in one, and we all flow to you!

this is the trio, this is the trio!!
That´s what music is all about, right notes at right places and not the amount of them. Great performance !!!
I realize it's quite randomly asking but does anyone know a good site to stream new series online ?
@Waylon Joshua Ehh I watch on Flixportal. Just google after it:P -markus
@Markus Andrew thank you, signed up and it seems to work :) I appreciate it!!
@Waylon Joshua glad I could help =)
cause these cats play from another state of mind...directly conected with their supreme been...their most inerself...they are blessed...amen!
He’s really feelin’ that shit.
kkk
Brad plays SO delicately!
I love this song and the way Brad, Larry, & Jorge play it!!!
That’s Drew Gress on bass, not Jorge Roeder.
@@marcoxborrow That's Larry Grenadier on bass.
Oh geez, you’re right. Serves me right for being so eager to point out a “mistake.” In my defense, I had just watched a Julian Lage/Jorge Roeder video. :)
@@marcoxborrow No problem! Enjoy!!
Yes, they (Brad Mehldau trio) are playing Nick Drake's River Man, and it is a beautiful song....
Super video. Thanks.

C'est formidable !!! Merveilleux.
come e' possibile che questo brano,mi dia tanta pace.
Semplicemente perché l'ha scritto un genio
One of my favorite tunes!
fantastic
Betty came by on her way
Said she had a word to say
'Bout things today
And fallen leaves
Said she hadn't heard the news
Hadn't had the time to choose
A way to lose
But she believes
[Chorus]
Gonna see the river man
Gonna tell him all I can
About the plan
For lilac time
If he tells me all he knows
'Bout the way his river flows
And all night shows
In summertime
[Verse 2]
Betty said she prayed today
For the sky to blow away
Or, maybe stay
She wasn't sure
For when she thought of summer rain
Calling for her mind again
She lost the pain
And stayed for more
[Chorus]
Gonna see the river man
Gonna tell him all I can
About the ban
On feeling free
If he tells me all he knows
'Bout the way his river flows
I don't suppose
It's meant for me
[Outro]
Oh, how they come and go
Oh... how they come, go
Brad Larry & Jorge...the best!
Gorgeous.
i love this cover!!!
Que du bonheur !
allez, encore une ch' tite dédicace pour Evelyne.
Remembering Nick Drake.
In fact in an interview brad said exactly the same: it´s just songs, nothing more. "Showtunes" as he calls them.
nice !...
.....pure poetry..... 💟
Bravo!
Bruna, do you have the full video of this performance?
at 0:59 it looks like the bass player is wearing a onesie to show his extremely relaxed and comfortable stage presence. Good idea.
Nice interpretation of one of Nick Drake's best songs. With respect to Brad Meldau, he's better listened to than watched. Besides, Bill Evans has already been done.
Man he is HIGH...
BRILLIANT
Izugarri gustatzen zaidan pieza, Gabon!
I totally agree!!!

@paynter4england Indeed... hah..
This is not jeff ballard
No, he is Jordi Rossi
Are they even humans?
You forgot to say JK in the end...
I'm sure Brad was feeling it but..its the only version that doesn't meet the criteria,,,so far...how to blow a perfect tune..
Great Performance but a total drag that it fades out right in the middle of the solo.
Good, but dynamics could have been much better, bass was too quiet, and melody was too loud.
You know, I understand about getting into the music, but the piano player is just being a poseur.
