I think the pronunciation of stapelia is: stuh-PEEL-ya. Years and years ago, my grandma was given a trailing stapelia. She didn't know anything about it and was just growing it as a funky foliage plant. Then it started forming a huge bud, which developed into a massive starfish-shaped flower. My gram was so thrilled with that big, beautiful flower, and thought it was totally hysterical that it was so stinky. Every time I see a stapelia, I remember my gram's delight with hers.
Amazing you went to Botanica! I work in Bath and it's literally my favourite place to go on my lunch break on a busy day. It's so chill, smells amazing, looks amazing and the staff are so lovely ❤️
Beautiful shop! I love all the attention to details. Even wrapping the nursery pots. I can’t quite understand how those little string lights provide enough light for all those plants 😮
What a great plant shop! 😍 I also have a Alocasia scalprum. I cleaned the roots off immediately and put her into some water so she could grow water roots for a couple of weeks. And now I just transfered her into pon. So keeping my fingers crossed 😅
Looks like a wonderful vacation and a great plant shop! What a gorgeous Scalprum! I transitioned mine to Pon by way of water. Even at 60 - 70% humidity, the leaves started to curl so I put her in my prop/humidity box for a couple of months. She's been back in her spot near the humidifier with the lower (but not Tucson standard) humidity for a month and gave me a leaf to die for, with another on the way. None of my other leathery reptilian super dragony Alocasia has struggled in the least on the same shelves so I thought I'd better give you a heads up! I'm thinking it'll love your cabinet and, perhaps, The LECA Queen's slow method of transitioning to semi-hydro. I don't use LECA - I've got faux Pon - but the principle is the same. I've lost a couple plants (probably because I scrubbed the roots to much!), but have also been able to transition well-established plants without losing a leaf! He's to the planty journey! 💚
What a fantastic shop in Bath. For sure I will visit when I'm in the area. As a suggestion - Please, please visit Rita Botanicals in Guildfords White Lion Walk. She is so very knowledgeable and such lovely person. She even invites customers to give details of plants that they would like in their collection and she will then source. Such a great asset to Guildford. You could even visit Rita and then pop down to Brighton to visit Jon at Hugo and Green in their amazing new shop in the Lanes (no longer in Horsham) . They even have a greenhouse inside the shop which is stunning.
Beautiful shop! I could do some damage there! 😂 Thank you for taking us along on your getaway! I recently gave away my Aglaonema Siam Aurora to a coworker, I saw a tricolor I wanted so I gave it away and I went and purchased it. I do miss my Siam because I had her for almost two years and she was a big girl. But my coworker was over the moon to get her, so I’m happy. You got some beautiful new plants! Joli ❤️she’s such a good girl! I hope she’s doing well with the remodeling people!!
Hi Claire! I don't know how useful one person's experience is, but I love my aglaonema pictum tricolor! It's sitting in an east facing window in the northern hemisphere (the window is open, so it's getting ambient humidity). I water it when it dries and it has given me no grief. Good luck, I can't wait to see how yours grows!
Tks for the lovely tour. I have had my stapelia for about 2 years. Slow growing then all of a sudden taking off. Such an easy plant. I only water when I feel it and not so firm or slightly going limp. 💚🇨🇦
Alocasia Scalprum is my absolute FABORITE Alocasia and I just finally found one last month at a beautiful family owned shop and snagged it! One thing I’ve noticed is that it absolutely has gone bonkers with growth in Leca. I have most of my other Alocasias in Pon with great success but for some reason this particular species seems to LOVE leca even more. I’ve only had it a few weeks and it already has the most insane root growth and it literally finished pushing a new leaf and starts a new one before it’s even done expanding! Consider Leca for that plant baby 100% 😘
haha I have 3 of these plants myself :d I have the soft cactus one for over a year and it´s growing really nice and easy, I had problems once because it was right behind the window glass that gets full morning to early midday sun and it got too hot for it. A few branches turned slightly brown and pale, but recovered in shade. Now it´s in the same window but about 10cm away from the glass behind another cactus and doing fine. So I guess it was the heat, not the light. I also have a aglaonema pictum tricolor and alocasia scalprum, i have both for about 6 weeks now. I moved them both to lechuza pon and selfwatering pots (I have most my plants like that) and they are doing well.
I have the succulent with pink bells in a large trough but have never noticed an unpleasant odour with it. It is a fast grower in oz & has loads of flowers. Love your videos & Yoley,
Keep in mind that the scalprum growing every where, the leaves can grow right, left, up, down upside-down ..Its a gorgeous plant the pattern is crazy, but for me it was too much of a mess that the leaves were too chaotic🧡 especially when you have more than 3 leaves.
This shop is always a must for me when l go into town shopping, and you are quite right about the assistants always happy to help and offer advice. I even sent my brother a massive hint as to where l wanted my xmas present from and which plants he could choose from 😂🎉
What a beautiful shop! And such a great range of plants you bought home. I bought an aglaonema pictum tricolour a few months ago and transfered to semi-hydro straight away it didn't miss a beat. It's pushed out two leaves and is fully rooted already. It's a truly beautiful plant 😊.
There's a couple nice little plant shops in Bristol, Sprouts is one i found recently, there is/was one on Park Street too but it's been along time since I went up there so not sure if they are still open amd I'm sure there are more around the city... There's an awesome tiny one in Weston-Super-Mare, he has some very cool monsteras and umbrella plants. Also Cleve Nursery has a good little house plant section as dose Cadbury Garden centre 😉
if you ever visit berlin, you have to go to „der holländer“!! sadly i’ve been there only once because i’m actually from bavaria, but it was amazing!! there are two in the city and it has some amazing plants for pretty good prices actually- so yeah i’d recommend going there if you get the chance 🙂↕️
Hi Claire, take a trip down to Polehill garden centre in Sevenoaks. I think they have one of the largest and best selection of houseplants in the South East. Im so often disappointed when visiting garden centers but this one really is exceptional 👌
Claire, the scalprum alocasia definitely is sensitive to Pon transition but once successful it loves it. Dont be surprised if you experience leaf drop.
I think I must have been in that shop a week or so before you visited. I always look in when in Bath because of the range of interesting and often unusual plants in stock but if I buy anything it`s usually something small to grow on from the table of mini plants they have because I find things in there rather pricey.
I recently purchased that aglaonema again. The one I got last year was growing brilliantly for months, and then it rotted after a repot. Please give us an update on its life in pon!
Just a warning if you're gonna put the Scalprum into semi hydro: I've transferred my whole plant collection into pon and think I've got the process pretty much nailed down. I'm now on my 4th attempt of transferring a Scalprum to pon. All of them turned to mush within days. All of my other alocasias transferred beautifully.
You’d have to have an awful lot go wrong for the Scalprum to go down hill. It has to be the easiest Alocasia by far. (for me anyway. ) I have mine in a clear glass vessel and all the babies (grown now)in self watering pots in pon. Good luck!
Hi, i have a white princess cutting and ever since i got it it has been going down hill. It has almost two leaves left. Do you think that i should put it back in water or just leave it alone. I bought it in a small pot. Its leaves are wilty. I transplanted it to a smaller pot and dryer dirt, cause the pot was not good and the soil was probably not drying out as well because of the pot and the dirt. Do you have any suggestions about what I can do?
Hi, I can’t seem to find an answer online so I’m hoping you can help answer (or anyone who knows): my alocacia frydek var. is putting out a good balance of green and white, but the white parts are more of a creamy yellow. I know it’s capable of being true white since the first leaf is true white. I can’t find what I’m doing wrong. I know it’s still healthy, but I’d love it to be true white. Do you have any idea?

Stewart's Garden centre in Christchurch is my favourite, staff in this particular store are very helpful and the 'rare plant' table never disappoints!
stapelia grow very well! bought mine from grow tropicals a couple
months back and the growth has been insane!
Beautiful shop! I love all the attention to details. Even wrapping the nursery pots. I can’t quite understand how those little string lights provide enough light for all those plants 😮
I wish this plant shop was in my city. It is so beautiful and well stocked.
Yes! I wish our city had one like it also..😌💚🪴
Such a lovely plant shop! Love the way it's decorated. Feels like a lovely jungle. I would spend the whole day there haha.
Thanks for taking us along. The shop is amazing with beautiful plants ☘️😀
Love that plant shop; thanks for taking us along!
What a great plant shop! 😍

I have been so excited of another episode of this series ! Lovely!

I used to go there daily in 2020/21 while i was still at uni in Bath! Gorgeous shop and really fun to have a look around.

I'm obsessed with my APT. It lives in lechuza pon and is thriving in front of a north /east facing window (Europe). It has given me zero grief.

If you ever come to Zürich get in contact with Skinkplants! They have amazing beautiful plants. Maybe you can look at their grow house.

If you're ever up north west England, Root in Liverpool is lovely, along with 2 shops in Manchester - Flourish
Nice Things.

Yes stapelia flowers are so unique and so smelly🤢!! The scalprum is a beauty and so fun
Love the alocasia and the aglaonema. Very tempted to buy an aglaonema white joy from work tomorrow, have you got that one?
Nick Pileggi had a peperomia piccolo banda and he grew his under a cloche
💚
Was that a string of bananas? Looks like my fishhook plant 👍🏻

This plant shop is extremely overwhelming for an ADHDer. I wouldn’t be able to cope 😃 Very surprised you weren’t overwhelmed 😅
Hello from the tropical Florida garden Claire!❤️@Palazzo Place on UA-cam
