Quit my job today, gonna hike the Appalachian trail for two months never done anything like this super stoked. Working 14 hour shifts busting my ass on second shift draining my soul an body. Getting home watching these types of videos have inspired me to jump out there an do something for me for once I appreciate your content man
Have a wonderful time!
I wish...
Be careful. Murderers & serial killers on that Trail. Also, its easy to get lost, turned around, bc it all looks the same.
Be very careful & alert
Get yourself a camera and put it all on UA-cam! Would love to watch a newbie do this for once!
A few points for you.
-pee around your camp site marking your territory. It’s a warning to animals that it’s your area.
- Although getting beaver fever (giardiasis) is brutal, it shows up in 7-10 days after you drink the water. So you’ll be close to a clinic by then.
-Sea to summit dry bags are super heavy duty and may be what you’re looking for.
-knor meals are a cheap alternative to mountain house meals.
-Katadyn gravity fed water filters are money!
-Kudos to you for living life to the fullest while you’re young!
Cheers from AK🍻
I couldn’t figure out what brought me to this video other than my inescapable passion for setting out on inflatable river adventures without the right equipment 😂. But halfway through, I saw it.
Everybody dies, but not everybody lives!
I’m a 60-year-old grandma still doing what you’re doing here, on the rivers up north now. I only regret the things I don’t attempt. Have fun and make every moment count ❤
Grew up in the desert of Southern California and live in Alaska today-good to see a young guy that’s interested in a real adventure, and sharing it with others. Gives me some hope in this day and age!
WOW! what a cool adventure. That is a amazing river. Thanks for taking us there.
"Everybody's gonna die but not everybody's gonna live" The best quote I've heard in a long time.
15 mins into this video and I can already tell youre gonna be one of my favourite youtubers
Devils River if I'm not mistaken. Nice job. I'm also an avid adventure freak and hammock camper. I've settled on the Warbonnet blackbird XLC hammock and I've never looked back. Been using it for six years now and absolutely love it.
Been using Sawyer filter for 7 yrs now. Its the best out there. Not sure why you had trouble. Not sure I would've tackled that in an inflatable but you did it. Good job
Great job at taking us along on such a beautiful trip. Thanks for sharing.
22:22 “People are always like, ‘well what if you die out there?’ Answer is, everybody’s gonna die and I would way rather die out here doing what I love than in a hospital bed of old age somewhere…everybody’s gonna die but not everybody’s gonna live, and that’s a fact.” The most gorgeous scene in the entire video and you dropped that 💎!!
Beats withering away in a nursing home.
@@JasonSmith-wj2ht heck yeah I agree. I’m disabled but I still get out, actually we get a lifetime pass to national parks. Used to be an athlete so miss being out there hard core, live vicariously through others’ adventures now! 🙏🏽
Great video. As a guy who has a decade on you and regularly does week-long backpacking adventures in the Sierras, you gotta tear yourself better food wise. That and dry socks are the one thing that'll keep you going mentally, when things are tough out there. Great vid man!
That is so true! Everyone is going to die, but not everybody lives. Awesome! I love doing things like this, I just always forget to record it! Great content!
You’re a smart man to be doing this while you’re young
Keep living on the edge, you get a better view. Really enjoy your videos.
That's awesome, glad you made it safe buddy ...much blessings to you all the way from the southwest navajo nation 🙏
What an amazing river system! That water and scenery 👍🏻
“Everybody’s gonna die but not everyone is gonna live” might be the realest quote ever
You mentioned is the world gonna be the same, yes it will, but you won't! Cause you just experienced what the world offers you, that was a great trip! I want to see it now thanks.
“If you look closely you can see what peoples 10000 years ago used to do” this man is a blissful human being, never seen ya before, been enjoying the video long enough to stick along. Keep doing what you do man 🙌🏽🤞🏽
That was Awesome 👌
I cannot imagine what it would feel like being financially free at that age. Im almost 50 with nothing to show but a bunch of bows with my name on it out there.
Good for you
Nice Video! I was just adding a comment about the Sawyer. That happened to me once. Mine was plugged up like yours. I now learned to test them before I go on a trip. The simple fix if they don't work before you go on your trip is to put some white vinegar in it and let it sit for awhile. Then flush it out and it will work like new. I have nothing to do with Sawyer, but I do like that filter for backpacking where there is water. I will subscribe to your adventures. Good luck.
I feel the channeling of Christopher McCandless with this one brother appreciate the video. Just got myself a cool little kayak and am hyped to get out and explore.
Y’all , be careful if you decide to do something this wild. About ten years ago you could paddle but was much diffidently saying overnite with only one public campsite available. 99.9 % if the land on both sides of the river is privately owned and they are very protective of their property. Do your homework.
Tristan or anyone else who has been there please correct with any changes in camping availability.
Keep up the fabulous work Tristan. Always enjoy your videos. Iam glad you survived The Devils River.
Wish I could have been there .
Byron/ Texas
Surprised you don’t keep protein bars, and the packets of canned meat. They take up very little room and provide the energy you need. I did enjoy this video. Subscribed
Bro, you look like you’re straight Outta 1983 love that mustache
Llano River, Texas. Near Rocksprings and Junction.
Nice, I was thinking Devil's River. Definitely hill country
@@JasonSmith-wj2ht what time of year? spring? Early summer?
Thank you 🙏🏼
Crazy you got a hole in the Dry bag! It should be heavy duty quality to last at least a week! Those companies you used messed up! They had a chance to get some good advertisements 💯💯💯
What an adventure. Would love to go on a trip like this. Great job, keep it up!
Sorry bud but if it's me and all I'm catching are bass and I am HUNGRY, bass it is for dinner.
it's catch and release there for bass. Between you and me, I'd be tempted to just eat one off camera. They are delectable!
Excellent video. I've never seen blow dart fishing before. Very cool
Dude the wildlife is unreal there!!! WOWW!! "everybody will die, but not everybody will live" YES SIRRRR!!! Instant sub. I want to be your friend 🙂!
I love this video because it is traw and you show all the problems and its well filmed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Deliverance.I never went down river again after that film.
You got a purty mouth 😂
Squeal like a pig
It’s definitely not a survival video because if it was I’d be eating bass. lol great video
Looks like a nice trip I wanted to go kayaking from Redding California to Sacramento when I was a younger man I wish I would have. Good job young man. Do it while you can that's my belief.
Great adventure bro. It's been a while since ive been able to do something like this myself. Happy for you
Nice video, it was like watching hundreds of shorts hehe
Lots of healthy Diamondback Rattlers to eat in that region, they get fat and long along the river with the nutria and rocky shelter. In this video, you put in at Bakers Crossing. I spoke to a Val Verde local who drove across a 10 ft diamondback which was crossing the Hwy several hundred yards north of the Bakers Crossing campground. Another local ranch hand, said, he was leaving Devils River State Park at pre dawn when he stopped on the county road to watch a Diamondback slowly cross the maintained dirt road. The road is 14 ft wide. I also have seen many fat Rattlers lying in the road along Hwy 163, but (30 yrs back)the largest was close to the Pecos River and Interstate 10. It was stretched across a two track ranch road which I measured the spot next day at 14 ft. These are not the only large Rattler stories. I have listened to locals tell me 10 ft encounters along 163 South over the years before cell phone cameras. We grew up playing in the Devils River; hence, many friends have made the same river trip except using canoes. I have often had night mares of paddling through the tall grass to find a Diamondback raised up two or three foot high to have a look-see finding me looking back eye to eye!
Lots of snakes in that area
assuming the rio grande near the seminole canyon state park and historic sight , near the amistad resivoir
Thank you for doing this video.
I just watched you live a dream of mine.
Thank you my friend, it was epic, subbed.
No way you don't have an air pump bro... just had to say that lol. Epic journey btw
Zero debt, thats the ticket.
Sometimes those water filters take a second and a good squeeze to work its way through the filter and come out the other end.But yes some of them are too tough. I'm thinking about doing something similar soon with my kayak going from the river, which is essentially a Creek around here.People kayak in all the way to the tennessee river
Weird Al, you could always sing to the fish. I’m kidding. I couldn’t do what you do but you do look a bit like Daniel Radcliffe’s version of Weird Al.
Tell us where this is. As a native Texan Id like to do this very thing someday. And Texas park and wild life can kick fkn rocks tryna make this a tourist attraction. The wild needs to remain wild, visited only by those who respect its beautiful and bounty.
Dude I’m spending my Friday night watching this with a vodka rox…this is awesome!
Excellent video, fun adventure. Awesome
Man, this is awesome, im going on my first solo trip this weekend.
Where did you wind up going on your trip
When you have a 70 degree drop in temp, do NOT refill the boat while it is still cold. The air will expand so much when it warms up that it may pop the raft. Wait until it warms up a bit.
Thanks for reminding me why im an indoor city boy
That is some great looking water for down south! Great adventure thanks for sharing
That looks like so much fun!!!
Great video. New subscriber here. That's a bucketlist trip for me. Of course, I would have to bring a kayak. We love Texas. Keep up the great videos, and we will keep watching.
Wow that was awesome !!! Thank you for sharing the journey What a beautiful but spooky place! Nice job
That first camp site was awesome. I could spend a whole week there. i also pack single mashed potato packets for my trips. Super light, compact & filling... and CHEAP.
I like to carry a ziplock of dry oatmeal, cocoa powder, pudding mix, cake batter mix,and instant coffee all mixed up,and at anything I can eat a ridiculous amount of calories per ounce hot or cold, adding just a little water,or mix alot of water and chug it down like a smoothie
What a great video ...now that's a adventure . Without risk there is no adventure ( Teddy Roosevelt ) ....I travel and fish out of my Texan canoe a bought 10 years ago outside Austin, TX. And have caught many of bass with it as well ....from Texas to California and inbetween ....that canoe has been priceless .....ok thanks again and if your ever out west in the mountains chasing trout give me a call .....adios fellow angler .....👍🏼🏔️🏞️🐾🌄🐟🦦
Interesting video, takes guts to go on an adventure like this with very little supplies. I was hoping you were hoing yo catch one of those catfish so you could get a decent meal. I've never seen so many fish close to the surface. I like your laid back approach when thing's don't go that well.
Do a survival challenge w/break barrel pellet rifle with just iron sights 🎉
For water treatment: Polar pure. Can’t get anything better than that. Add in lemonade powder and you’ll have unlimited fresh drinking water everywhere you go. I keep one in my car emergency kit.
Those underground rivers are no joke. Stepping into a hole and then no one will ever see you again. Possibly, forever.
Bro went full ninja with a blowgun
That was a gnarly mission bro, congrats on making it out alive!!! Too bad the rod disappeared with all those monsters you could have caught. Epic anyway that was gangster. Oh and the dinosaur art on the side of the cliff wth 🤯
Sick video man you make the coolest content keep up the good work
Really awesome trip - thanks for sharing. You are a very low stress guy, I would have been anxious about losing the pole and then losing the water filter too. Way to keep it mellow.
Man a takedown 22 would be awesome to have! Feral pigs galore!
I WOULD NEVER TRUST MY LIFE Inflatable Raft!
U should bring wax ear plugs so u can sleep at night. They work really well at blocking out any sounds. Also what part of Texas is this?? I can't believe they are building a road into it. Is this not protected at all and Texas is just allowing this pristine natural landscape to be demolished? That is absolutely evil and the embodiment of greed. This landscape has to be persevered at all costs
I agree places like these should be preserved! I don't know I'd use earplugs in a place where you're alone in the wild. You may need to have your wits about you in case a dangerous animal comes to check you out. You'll want to know. That's how I've always felt anyway.
Here is a tip for when you were trying to blow dart fish. When you have a small cove like that, build a little gate out of sticks. When the fish come into the enclosed area for the chum bait, simply close the gate behind them. Go into the water that the fish is trapped in and walk around. The silt you kick up makes it hard to breathe for the fish. It becomes lethargic and, at that point, you can simply reach down and grab dinner with your hands.
This river is incredibly beautiful, what an adventure.
Beautiful water and scenery. Breathtaking. And the fish are massive. Where is this river?
Texas
Reminds me of "Yukon Summer", great book, awesome story.
How come you didn't jump in and swim? The water looked wonderful
Where in Texas? adding this to the bucket list.
Thats what I wanna know
Location kindly please?
They don’t say so tons of people don’t start showing up polluting it
Great video Tristin. I'm originally from Terrell Texas but was mainly raised in Greeley Colorado USA

What an amazing adventure
Happened to my sawyer squeeze as well. Best to backwash with distilled water after using and store it in a plastic bag with a moist paper towel. Betadine tablets work great for back up option.
Beautiful water! Where is that
7:15 Yeah, I don't know why Sawyer decided to phase out the awesome "Point ZeroTWO" filters. They were great for use with a gravity system. Let the water flow from the dirty water bag a few meters up a tree down through the .02 sawyer filter followed by a platypus carbon filter, into the clean water bag. Hardly any effort and super clean water free from bacteria, protozoa and heavy metals. Much better than those screw on filters which make you rely un muscle power to get clean water which is not good in a survival situation.
Sure is some pretty country out there. I have never had good luck with the sawyer filters, I got off to a bad start with them, and they never got better, they were always clogging or allowing stuff to pass. I usually use some combination of stuff to treat my water, usually iodine tabs, bleach, or UV light in addition to an inline filter. I mostly just use the filters to remove the unpleasant tastes left by iodine and bleach. Glad you made it, thanks for bringing the video.
With those polymer filters (sawyer) it really helps to put an inline vacmotion strainer on the hose in my opinion.
Where is this? The terrain looks GORGEOUS!!
Not sure of the exact location, but he said Texas.
Really nice content
this is awesome. would love to see more adventures like this.
Dude awesome adventure!!! 🤩🫡
Thanks for sharing!!
Hey brother, switch to the sawyer mini. I never had an issue with them and they flow real well. I got sick of the regular sawyer filters seizing up on me too.
Why are you not catching the bream and eating them they are one of the best eating fish in that river.
Take me to chilis! Lmao that was amazing
Excellent adventure
Just found your channel man! Excellent video, I never knew this river even existed. Its such a unique river. Take care!
Great adventure!
Liked and Subscribed! Excellent content! Thanks man!
This is a great video I really think you should keep doing more floating multiple days survival videos.
great video when you go to bed try putting your shoes in a plastic bag you can seal then nothing can get in
Great video! I'm an avid hiker and have had the same problem with sawyers in the past. What helps if you get some water in the filter and let it sit for a bit. It helps prime it. Also if your putting them away for the season, back flush them with distilled water with no minerals. Minerals from tap water or drinking water will clog them up too. However i recommend using the "platypus quick draw" water filter. Waaaay better then sawyer.
Yes, highly mineralized water like that clogs all filters up quick. I use the MSR version and still have the same issue. I backwash mine every other day. Just make sure you do it with water you filtered already so do it before it's too late.
Keep up the good work
Superb vid - A+
I think what was done to the trees is called girdling. Basically, it's to kill the tree.
Your commentary reminds me of Mav but different in your on way. Nice footage what an experience
What river are you on. Devils?
