    Last name is Dale and still can't find an exact origin I keep running into a translation of "one who lives in a valley" but I can't pin down a country of origin.

      Dale is a place-name, similar to Hill. It's quite common, so your ancestors could have come from a number of counties such as Yorkshire e.g. the Yorkshire Dales. George

    Hi there George,what is the origin of the name Hamilton.really love these videos, thank you.

    • @georgeenglish8482
      @georgeenglish8482 Рік тому +1

      Hello Grimm Hamilton is a toponym,ic (place) surname, as you would probably guess. There is Hamilton in Lanarkshire; also many Hambledons in England, which it could be a corruption of. There were Hamiltons who went to Ireland during the 17th century Plantation of Ireland. Glad you're enjoying the videos - that's why we make them! George

    Would love to find the origin of the surname Thames. I know it probably was due to the river Thames. But, it had to start somewhere. And whether or not, it goes back to any nobility.

    • @georgeenglish8482
      @georgeenglish8482 Рік тому

      Hello. Thames is a toponymic (place) surname for a 'Dweller by the River Thames'. Such surnames were probably adopted in the 13/14th centuries. George

      @georgeenglish8482 2 роки тому

      Hello Yaz Wears is a very unusual surname whose origin is not clear. Found most in north east England in the counties of Durham and Northumberland. The River Wear flows mostly through County Durham to the North Sea in the City of Sunderland. This suggests Wears is a Toponymic (Place) surname adopted by someone who lived near the River Wear.
