  • Hi Guys
Welcome to our latest episode in our WATERWAYS ADVENTURES in our TINY FLOATING HOME.
We explore a BRAND NEW CANAL the BRIDGEWATER CANAL. We think moving further north on the WATERWAYS NETWORK is such fun, our LIVE ABOARD LIFESTYLE is a real adventure. To get there we have to navigate not 1 but 3 TUNNELS, some of which are very crooked, do we make it through in one piece??
We explore the DUTTON CANAL BREACH and learn all about the TRAUMATIC EVENTS in 2012 which saw CRT having to spend £2.5 million to repair the canal.
Then….. we have a story for you, a traumatic story of an event that occurred when we visited the ANDERTON BOAT LIFT on our previous NARROWBOAT AMADEUS III. Keep watching to hear what happened!!!
We hope you enjoy a look at our ADVENTURING LIFESTYLE xx
    Season 2 | Episode 75

Ha ha, my wife and I did a week holiday hire on the Bridgewater from Acton Bridge middle of October. Realised as you no water at Lymm. Loved Lymm but it rained. And, guess what, went to the water point at Little Bollington and nearly got blown off the mooring but a kind chap grabbed the centre line with me and hauled us back in as I had hold of the last metre of rope. Great compilation, thank you.

Wow Chris it sounds like we have had exactly the same experience, rain, no water and then the high winds, maybe it was even the same guys that helped us???? Where is your next holiday going to be?? The Skipton section of the Leeds Liverpool canal is amazing. Happy cruising x

@@cruisingontheborder Skipton definitely on the radar. I effectively single hand as my wife isn’t as agile as me and won’t handle the helm. We have our grandson lined up for Skipton, he holidays in that area so is well up for it. BTW we have something else in common besides the same stretch of canal and weather, my wife loves those Portuguese cakes. If you are ever in the Chester area I’ll pick-up the cakes if you’ve got enough energy in that power pack to make the coffee. Hopefully the Berghaus is in the cupboard for a couple of days.

Hi, Jackie and Michael. I still watch every episode of your travels. You two are wonderful, because I am not too well at the moment, but I will get over it. In the meantime, watching you brightens my day, as you are so down-to-earth, natural and happy, it always puts me in a good mood and I feel so much better. You are like 'the light at the end of the tunnel' and I know there is brightness ahead. Your videos and comments are brilliant. Thank you.

Hi Desmond, what a lovely comment thank you so much you have made our day. Sorry to hear you are not well, hope you make a speedy recovery. We started this vlog to record our journey for friends and family, as a lot of people do and it just grew and grew. It's challenging recording footage every day and then editing to produce a weekly video. We are both invested and involved in the whole video production, it's challenged our technical and artistic capabilities. It's great to know we do a good job and what you see with us is who we are, it's just us being ourselves. One thing Michael tells me is I'm dreadful at reading a script (I sound really wooden) hence why we never plan anything and it's just how we are together. Silly with lots of banter. Hope that gives you a little insight into us... xx

Your last couple of videos continue to bring back good memories as we travelled the T&M Canal many times and are very familiar with the landscape, crocked tunnels, the Anderton Lift and of course the lovely hamlet of Lymm where we often moored. I have to say I enjoyed the challenge of navigating tunnels and was not bothered by darkness and frequent dripping. The chaps that dug those tunnels are the real heroes. What a horrible job in very rough conditions. Cheers!

You mentioned how going from bright light into a dark tunnel made it hard to see. Well because it was dak below deck, the olden day sailors had a solution. They wore an eye patch over one eye. That way when they went below deck they lifted the patch up and their eye was conditioned to the dark. If you wore a black patch you would look like a pirate which goes with the name of your boat.😁😁👍👍✔✔

@@cruisingontheborderForget who it was that said “At sea, the line between war and peace has always been thinner than on land”, but I guess at times it could be applied to the watery road too, although on the whole everyone seems respectful of others boats. Agree with you about the natural beauty of the K&A too. Anyway, wishing you both good road with locks for you, and no bad locks against you. 🫡

❤🎉😅😁😀🎊❤Another interesting vlog. Thanks for sharing. It's a weary time, getting nearer to winter with dark clouds on the horizon. It's the reason why everything has a different vibe. Keep going regardless of short days , cold nights and rain clouds above and dark tunnels. Its time to keep well adjusted, lots of logs in the wood burner and plenty of food. Then wind your way into Christmas and on to next year. You guys always cheer me up. Thank you for being there and sharing your journey. ❤ from Arizona 🇺🇸.

Another great vlog Jackie & Michael … too much choice of Magnum’s though 🤔😉!
The Anderton boat lift looks fascinating… as for those kinky tunnels … well!
Lynn looked a lovely little place too. Being a southerner (from sleepy Buckinghamshire) I find your videos so informative of places I’ve never seen .. though I have been to Runcorn a few times over the years (to Canal Street to watch my team Wycombe Wanderers play when we were in the GM Conference League between 1987-1993). That breach must have been horrendous for area … we had a lock collapse when they were building the mega Arla Dairy at Aston Clinton on the Aylesbury Arm of the Grand Union Canal. Look forward to seeing more of your adventures!

We went through the Preston Brook Tunnel a couple of months ago and were told by the very knowledgeable guy in the boat behind that in the middle of that tunnel it opens up wider and higher and that is where the post office from above fell into the tunnel years ago and it all had to be rebuilt. Awwh, you visited my village & I couldn’t get to come and see you both & buy you a coffee in person😢 I messaged you a few videos ago mentioning Harry (&then Mathew) Corbett White House on the bank of the canal in the village centre? (If you remember it appeared on the front page of the canal guide book?) At approx 33mins in this video you passed through Stockton Heath. A few months ago I had the pleasure of going on a day canal boat trip from there to the confluence of where the canal branched towards Runcorn/Widnes. We stopped for lunch 1/2 way at the Red Lion pub. The trip was organised by the Warrington Disability Partnership on a narrowboat called Wizard. They do a great job enabling disabled people like myself to partake in activities I’d never be able to do on my own. I really enjoyed this particular video as it was so familiar & close to home. It was just a real shame I couldn’t get to meet you 2 lovely people.X👍🏻

Pirates used to wear a patch over one eye,not because they had a eye missing but because when they used to go below decks it would be so dark that it would take ages for their eyes to adjust to the darkness.
By wearing a patch over one eye they would lift the patch as they went below decks and that eye was perfectly acclimatised to the darkness because of course it was in darkness above decks due to the patch !!.
Maybe that’s what you need to do when you know you are going to be going through a tunnel ? Just wear a patch for 30 minutes before you go into the tunnel and then when you are inside the tunnel in the darkness you can lift the patch ??.

Interesting piece of engineering that boat lift , sorry about the boat accident that happened, sounds like the skipper might've had a health problem , maybe a heart attack. Was that covered be insurance Michael ? .... and 2 disasters in one video , that flooding of the banks of that river was pretty horrendous, not surprised how much it cost to fix it ..... its funny how we call something from 2018 historic news.... And Kinky tunnels , sounds like nightclub for kinky people 😂😂.... I'll have to look them up 😉

Yet another nice video. Get to see things and history that we don't get down here in Oz. Look forward to the next episode. P.S. You need to invest in a couple of wireless microphones. Sometimes the background noise drowns you out, and the hum of the engine is a bit distracting. Love your work. Geoff.

Saltford tunnel never used to be timed it was a nightmare as you had a blink of a second to see if anyone was in it Preston brook is long and straight but don’t be fooled as one day we was going in and a boat was coming out even though it was timed see you on the cut obsession

Can I make a suggestion regarding being unable to see initially in a tunnel? One of the crew should go down into the cabin with curtains shut, and stay there until entering the tunnel, and maybe stick sunglasses on too. Immediately you enter the tunnel having been skippered there by the other crew member, the 'prepared' crew member takes over, without the sunglasses of course, until either the end of the tunnel is reached or the partner is able to see better in the dark.

    • @cruisingontheborder
      @cruisingontheborder  8 місяців тому

Wow what an interesting idea, maybe we should try that. It's a difficult one as I don't like being below deck in a tunnel and it's good for us both to be with each other in case I need to take over. Thanks for the great suggestion x

Hi guys. We love watching your vlogs but I would just like to say that labelling the beautiful German Shepherd as "the most vicious dog you have ever seen" is highly inappropriate and assuming it would swim across the canal and "rip" you to pieces gives the breed a bad name. As a German shepherd owner, I feel disappointed in your unfair, unfounded comments.
