  • Chinese Dune Buggy top speed Rips the trails and sets a new land speed record of 70MPH!! I go over how it was built and some engine specs (800cc) and where it came from. If you have ever wondered what a dune buggies top speed is or wondered what 800cc dune buggies are like I can tell you they are awesome! Super fun! With the work I've done It could easily hang with the 1100cc Joyner sand viper or some RZRs.

    I started out driving a couple Chinese buggies and they were fun AF! I did Poison Spider Mesa in Moab Utah in a 400cc 2wd all the way to the top! Just like the $30k fancy sxs's do. I drive a high end sxs now but whatever offroad vehicle you can get your hands on I'm a fan of. Keep rippin!

      problem is that "top end" SxS are north of 30K. for that money you can get custom built mini rock crawler based on Suzuki samurai or jimny paired to any motorbike engine you'd wish and would still be under 30K ...i'd gladly have one of those high end SxS's but for that price, hell no !

    That looks like a blast! I had a buggy years ago someone made out of a VW Bug. They removed the rear seat section to shorten it up and of course it had no body on it. The suspension worked great without the extra weight. (Rhyme not intended). The only problem was it was geared too high. I didn't have a place like you do to drive it so, into the woods! Worked awesome (in first gear only) until the clutch burned out. I noticed your 4th is pretty tall. My VW probably would have been right at home in that environment. It had a converted (barbecue grill) propane tank for the gas tank.
    I miss that thing. (no, it was a Bug, not a Thing). :-) Great video. Thanks for sharing!! Great job on the engine. Sounds awesome!

    DirtGearTv nice job on the mods you did to it especially sounds good not real loud, I purchased 1 from China before, and I modded mine a bit more then I would say you did to yours, I did modifications to the suspension and some up front, by that I mean adding some more structure braces to be able to bolt a winch into it and just not rip off the buggy when I use it, I also added a lot of bushings on it where I could, have a friend that works in a custom shop and he did up as many bushings as possible to put into this, It did make a big difference on the handling the ride and noise from it rattling around, The only thing I had a big problem was when I had a bearing go on the tranny, what a pain to try and fix that, had to make a special tool in my buddy,s shop on the cutter and it still was a nightmare to finally get it apart and fixed, I had a 3 cylinder also but mine was 3 or 4 years older then this 1 though so not sure if that made a difference or not , After the modding and that I did to the motor I was able to get 84 mph out of it on a good straight away, The only thing with mine is my buddy installed a hand clutch up on the wheel and a suicide shift like the old Harley.s because I am paralyzed and do not have the use of my legs and just behind me I also built a rack to hold my chair down when I am out tearing things up, But all said and done for the price I paid for this compared to my can-am I would buy another 1 which I am thinking on doing and converting it over to 4 wheel drive, But pricing for 1 of these and what you get out of them is fantastic compared to the price of a Polaris, Bombardier or a Yamaha is crazy you can most likely buy 3 of these and still be ahead on buying 1 Razor 1100, But great video you made of showing this off and what you did to it, Now I no I am not the only 1 out there that others think you are crazy for buying these, but they sure get surprised on the trail when You tear on by them, the look is priceless, I was trying to find out without any luck if you are able to buy a frame or rear axle things like that for these, if you are able to find out would be great if you could let me no, so great video thumbs to you, Bear.

    One thing I really think you would benefit from and something I would highly recommend doing, is to install turning brakes. There were several time I noticed it was pushing the front end in turns....nothing out of the ordinary, that's what turning brakes were designed to help fix. You could easily add turning brakes to that buggy....you just tap into the rear brake lines and when you use the pedal, it will operate as normal, but when you use the turning brakes, it will apply braking to only the left or right rear tire. For instance, If you want to make a left turn, you simply apply some turning brake to the left rear tire. To make a right turn, same deal, use a little right turning brake. You can get a single lever or twin lever turning brake handle(s). With the single lever you either push down or pull up. With the twin you either pull the left or right lever. Do a Google search and you will find several options.

    If the shocks are adjustable, turn the compression down a bit and turn the rebound up. It will soak up the whoops a little better and allow the wheels to return faster so you are less likely to have them come off the ground. You will probably be able to drive through them even faster.

    Idk I’m into fabricating you have a nice rig but I don’t shred belts on my rzr. Most in our group have 1-2k miles on the oe belt. We have all four wheel to lock in a turbo and they love woops. High and low transmission and you can’t stall the engine. Don’t buy into the cvt robs power. I was sceptic also but I’m governed at 80mph and it hits real fast. The buggy is very streetable and controllable at low speeds. This is not a bash message but the shredder of a belt is almost always user error. Like 16yr old learning not to slip the clutch on your manual but only we don’t have to separate the transmission from the engine. Nor have a machinist turn the fly wheel. Great video and thx you for sharing your engine mods.

    RZR's are nice, I just don't want to be the guy with yet another RZR like 92% of everyone at an offroad park. I've seen these buggies do amazing things! Sure they don't fly over whoops, but again, the RZR is designed like a mini trophy truck. I ride a 150cc chinese buggy. No typo's, one hundred fifty cc. People think its a joke when i tell them. But its geared low enough to climb almost everything, and still does about 25 full speed with 2 adults. Oh and it weighs 400 lbs so 2 people can pick it up if it gets stuck, no winch needed. Sure its not the fastest, but its small, light and nimble. Many times have I lost a RZR in the tight wooded trails simply because they are too big and heavy to whip the corners like I can. The point is every vehicle has its benefits and drawbacks, but they are all fun in their element. for what its worth, I do think the buggies aesthetics are much much more attractive than a RZR. Mad max vs luxury mall crawler.

    Its actually pretty dang cool. Lol. What makes it cool is that its unique and rare. You see rzrs or Mavericks everywhere. They are awesome, dont get me wrong, but they are just so common. I would take that thing and would build a little turbo system for it. Also, there is a company that makes a system to convert it to fuel injection that runs a few different sensors so it will automatically tune itself. That or you could just stick a sportbike engine in it, but being a 3 cylinder is cool. They sound different. Then I would do some upgrades to the suspension. I would build some new front shock mounts that are higher up so you can run a longer shock. Then I would run some air bypass shocks with reservoirs. They would soak up everything like it's nothing. Anyway, that's just me. Cool video, thanks for sharing. Will subscribe.

    Belt timing means that you have to change the belt every couple of thousand miles. A good example of maintenance on this type of motor is the Mazda AZ-1. The AZ-1 is a Japanese Kei car.

    • @DirtGearTv
      @DirtGearTv  5 років тому

      Michael Sanders I’ve been wondering how the belt maintenance might translate to the off road environment. I’m sure i’m way harder on the engine than if it were in a passenger car so the oil and belt interval must be significantly shorter? I believe the engine has about 30hrs on it...

    • @johncoops6897
      @johncoops6897 4 роки тому

      The timing belts in car engines are usually recommended to be changed every 100,000km, about 60,000 miles. They last a lot longer than that. Would you ever put 30,000 miles on a buggy like that? Would you put 15,000 miles on it? Anyway, the other parts of the engine will get maintained, and it's easy to inspect the belt for cracking and cheaply change it when desired.

    Awesome Video! Thanks for sharing with us. I have a 2008 BMS GOKA 800cc EFI buggy. I bought it used from a fella that had upgraded the suspension all around to FOX Podium and beefed up the rear swing arms. I've gone through the wiring and on the rear and now have all lights working. Tail, Break and Turn. Wish I could get the speedometer to work but can't figure it out. I called the folks at BMS MOTOR SPORTS in Rialto California but their tech guys can't tell me anything. I do know there should be a sensor mounted right next to left rear brake disk but there isn't one there. The bracket is there, but no sensor. If anyone here can help me out with information about this situation I'd appreciate it very much. In all, I have more to do to this buggy but yet It's a fun buggy to ride. Speed checked with Garmin GPS was 49 mph. So now I have a question. I see some of you saying that this little 3 cylinder engine is the same that found in some small cars? If that is true then can we buy parts for this engine from auto part stores? Later I'll repost and try to share a couple of links with everyone. I'd like to say thanks to of those that have posted positive comments here. Thanks, everyone... And BIG Thanks to Gear Dirt Tv for sharing this video and info. with all of us. Thanks!

    I should never do this,
    ( commenting before the end of a video ) !
    But I have a couple of questions, so here goes nothing !
    First, I have been a dealer for two different Chinese karts, but they have always been under powered !
    While nicely constructed
    non-, the-less !
    Liquid cooled, shaft drive, chain drive as well.
    But never enough horsepower in my opinion !
    So, I am absolutely thrilled to see this little Suzuki here !
    Isn't this little engine able to be turbo-charged ?
    And, I am interested in the brand of the kart please ?
    I am very interested in doing an in-house conversion to installing a front diff out of an otherwise destroyed 4 x 4 atv, or side-by-side !
    So the end result is a turbo-charged, 4x4 kart !
    Looking forward to hearing back from you !

    • @DirtGearTv
      @DirtGearTv  5 років тому +1

      I felt it was under powered as stock myself which is why Ive done the engine mods. A lot of the engine changes were surprisingly obvious like poor casting of the headers or no smoothing out of the intake runners that sort of thing, probably due to low production cost. I wish I had thought to document the engine mods I made but im sure ill cover these in future videos on this engine or others. I do not have a brand or manufacturer but you could absolutely turbo these, since its a carb engine you'd want to do a "blow through" system. In fact Unleashed motorsports has an 800cc kit designed for the card versions of this engine. The turbo 4x4 sounds wicked though!

      Thanks for your reply !
      Actually,
      I just responded to an on-line ad for a munched 650 4X4, if the front diff. is good, I'm bringing it home !
      I have to say, the actual workmanship of our China-Karts has been pretty good !
      Would have a $12000.00 pricetag if built here in the USA !
      Wish you had a model name, or model number on it !
      My next option is going to be a wrecked "Busa" turbo !
      Gives me 5 speed, manual trans, and wicked power !
      A 4x4 of this caliber would be in demand !
      ( I hope ) !
      I am pretty sure that
      Suzuki built that little 3cyl. for the Samurai here in the US !
