Excellent explanation mate. In the UK on a field packed with everything. Celtic- Roman- Saxon - Medieval and a huge amount of iron. This is going to open the field right back up again. 👍
Glad you found it useful, and thanks for watching! I’d love to come to the UK for some detecting - an entirely different experience for me that’s for sure! Good luck and happy hunting!
Your very knowledgeable when it comes to the metal detector and what you say makes a lot of sense. Much Appreciation for making these videos and Cheers.
Steve, thank you for making this informative video. I have always thought that a slower recovery speed of around 3 would help me see deeper targets; end at slow is always better. I'll never know what I have missed by using this mindset? I will also try using the threshold feature. I remember how important it was when swinging my Excalibur II! I would like to see your video on the importance and examples of utilizing the threshold if you have one? You are a wealth of information and incredibly well spoken! Thank you! Richard Nalli
Thanks very much for your feedback, and kind words. I really appreciate it! I think we’re all guilty of being a little stuck in our old ways sometimes - I know I am. It’s always good to try new settings, but the key I think is knowing WHEN to try them. Good luck with your detecting!
Hello Steve, just found your channel on UA-cam recommend to me.. Just subbed 👍 I've been using the Nox for over 4 years now and I noticed when you were describing the settings you were in park one and on the demo video you were in field 1, I started at the beginning always in park 1 but over time I've grown to never move from field 1 on every hunt, it seems to be hitting targets differently to park 1... I've pushed it at faster speed recovery but I've found that having it set on recovery 5 works best for me, I'm not saying it's the same for everyone just my opinion I've experienced for my style of arm swing speed.. I do most of my detecting in iner Melbourne parks and the amount of trash is just overwhelming, what I do seems to work for me .. But in saying all that I will take your advice and give it a go, Just incase I've been doing it wrong, even if it means one more silver pop's up I'm sold 😁👍
Thanks for your comments! I’ve been experimenting quite a bit with different settings, and I also used to hunt in Park 1 pretty much all the time. Recently I’ve been using Field 1 with a higher recovery speed because I’ve been hunting a lot of trashy dump sites out in the bush, and it’s definitely working for me. I think the most important thing is to understand the machine and adjust the settings that work best for your particular situation, soil conditions, coil size etc. I’m constantly learning new things about the Equinox, and I’m sure you are too! Happy hunting!
Just bought the 6" coil for better separation near an 18th century house. What are your thoughts on recovery speed compared to the stock coil? Also what are the benefits of Field 1 compared to Park 1 in hunting near a location like this? Thanks Steve!
Hey Scott, I'd definitely be setting recovery speed to at least 6 or 7, and swinging fairly slowly. Recovery speed is the same for both coils, however you will probably feel like it's better with the 6" because it's much easier to separate targets. I'd probably suggest Field 1 over Park 1 in this kind of environment, as it tends to be better for smaller objects like coins, and the frequency bias is set more towards higher conductors like silver, and less towards iron... Good luck!
My thoughts on this would be that the smaller the coil size, the more responsive and the more accurate the target separation would be in high target density areas, with a higher recovery speed. This is based purely on the physical coil size, as with a large coil there would be more targets under the coil at the one time so it would be more difficult for the machine to process and report each one, as compared to a smaller coil…

That was so very helpful. I'm 3 years with the Nox, and it is a feature I have been over looking,,,,Thank You for the help,,,,,,
You're welcome! I hope it helps you find more good stuff!

Thanks for your kind words - I’m happy to hear that you’re finding the videos helpful. Happy hunting!
Some great information in your videos mate. I work in a detector and prospecting shop and will be directing new nox owners to your channel. Cheers.
I’m happy to hear you found the video helpful, and very appreciative that you think it’s useful enough to recommend to other detectorists. Thank you!
Mesmo com a bobina menorzinha, ainda havia necessidade de uma velocidade de recuperação alta. 👏 Prlo vídeo
It was an extremely trashy location, so only a very small coil with high recovery speed made it possible to isolate targets.
@@coilsandcoinsdetectingobrigado!
Very well put together video. Definitely learnt something watching this.
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
Very informative - a lot easier to understand thanks once again.

I prefer field 1 too. I always seem to find more and it seems to block out more trash
Thx for showing! 👍🏻
Awesome info 👌

Thanks for your comment. I've also made some basic setup videos, and how to find coins the easy way. Hopefully these are helpful.
@@coilsandcoinsdetecting care clip,de la zero ai facut?
O legend possui um nível de 10, será que é mais rápido do que o equinox 800?
I’m really not sure - I’ve not compared them as I don’t have access to the Legend.
Obrigado!@@coilsandcoinsdetecting
The slower recovery speed the deeper the single goes to.
This can be the case, depending on soil type and mineralisation etc. It’s a balance between depth and target separation.
