THANK YOU, my good man! I was able to remove and replace my battery on my own thanks to your video. I see another viewer also found that they could remove the battery without removing the entire air box assembly (although I suspect that it does give you quite a bit more room to work with and for getting a better view for the video). I disconnected the air hoses and unbolted the air box so it had room to lift up, but was otherwise able to slide the battery on out with my small hands. In the ‘07, the memory saver is not necessary; the radio in this one recognizes that it has not been removed from the vehicle and placed in another one, so no need for the saver. I did wrap my battery connectors in newspaper, though, just so they would not make contact with anything before I was ready! My negative cable was pretty tight and kept wanting to slide into place on its own, so I did not want to take any chances that it was on before I had a chance to connect the positive post. Great video and super helpful, even after all these years!

Word of advice ...I'm currently working on my wife's 2007 VW Beetle and, as I guessed, you can ABSOLUTELY change the battery out WITHOUT removing the box. The battery slides to YOUR left once the large intake hose has been completely removed, the terminals are disconnected and the 13mm screw has been taken out. Just lift the battery and slide to the left. Also did not have to remove the plate that keep the fuse box in place. My battery just came out in 15 minutes and I don't have to screw with trying to replace that box...Happy "DIYing!"

So you just have to disconnect the intake hose on the big box? Sorry I’m trying to replace my battery and I’m confused about which hose you mean.

Good video, I use a piece of electrical tape to hold those bolts that need to stay in place the same way you did your paper. It works on swivel sockets that swivel too much in hard to reach spots as well.

I took my 2008 Beetle Convertible which is similar to the 2007 for a new battery and was charged $197. At a VW dealer. I didn’t want to get into a knuckle busting operation and to me it was worth it and I have worked on other problems and even installed a backup camera.

Ok so I bought my daughter a 2007 VW Beetle Convertible for graduation and birthday. It was working perfectly fine and the one day it acted like the battery was dying, It started up but it took a couple cranks and one long crank then it caught. I did that day days in a row. Now it wont start, It turns over but no sound no crank but the power still works. Help.....What do you guys think..??????

    Hello Auto Fix All,
Would the changing of a battery on an 07 VW Beetle light up any dashboard lights i.e. check engine light or the airbag light just for the hell of it, even though the car has no predisposed issues? I was told that "anytime you work with a computer, in this case, memory saver, and disconnecting the battery, you might trigger something off."

i cant say that its impossible. But that has never happen to me.Check to see what DTC's you have.

I am not sure if there is a way to private message on YT. If so, I do not see it and apologize for thos being a public post. Respectfully, "beetle" is mispelled.

You do NOT need to dissemble your entire air intake just to take the battery out......
