Controlling traffic through work zones is one of the most important - and dangerous - operations for highway workers. On two-lane state routes, traffic must be flagged to allow one lane of traffic to pass work crews. At TDOT, Operations Technicians undergo rigorous training with classroom instruction, groups exercises, and exams to become certified flaggers; but training cannot guard against distracted drivers.
TDOT urges motorists to Work With Us. Pay attention to posted work zones signs, be prepared for changing road conditions, and be alert to workers in the area.
