    Bookmarking this now as I can't wait to try. I'm 60 years old and just recently discovered MCR. I think they were amazing and sorry I missed them when they were around. I was well aware of Green Day (Blvd was first song I ever learned on guitar) but this band slipped past my radar. I suppose most of the focus was on Gerrard, but the band is killer. This is how real bands make records, not all quantized in ProTools and processed to death. Just people who can really play and sing.

    • @BeyTM

      Natural harmonic. You can get that sound if you press sightly the 5 fret of your guitar. (Instead of pressing it like a normal note, put your finger in the 5 fret, but don't press it)
      You can do the same thing in the frets 4,5, 7, and 12. (Well, and 16, 17, 19, 24, but overall is the same notes)
      As a little tip, in case you're not really used to this. If you do a natural harmonic, as soon as you pick the note, if you raise your finger, you will get a brighter harmonic, as your finger is muting it
      Also, for future reference, in tabs, natural harmonics usually are marked as . But in some cases you will see 5* instead. tbh this is the first time I see the 5f

    • @portalgangadventures
      @portalgangadventures 4 роки тому +7

      That is called an octave. Basically, it is the same note played in two parts of the fretboard at the same time. Commonly used in punk, it is a good way to get a fuller sound from your guitar without using chords. Keep practicing it muted, once that sounds good, work on the rhythm slowly. You'll do fantastic if you keep practicing. Rock on bro.

      Agreed

    • @jhayde8868
      @jhayde8868 4 роки тому +1

      @Jink Kefka yeah I guess but it if you're playing it it doesn't mean you have to stick to exactly what they play. I suggested playing it in one position on multiple strings as it makes changing note accurately much easier, as most guitarists have a much better idea of the distance between about 3 frets without moving their hand over 7 or 8, sliding up and down the neck.
      If you want to play it the original way then power to you, I was only suggesting another way to play it and it's entirely up to the player what they use.
      Edit: it's also kinda hard to know what they're playing live as I remember them playing it pentatonically but that might have been Frank playing one part and Ray playing another. My point of players choice still stands.

      Natural Harmonics - I know your comment is a few weeks old but hopefully I can help anyone in the future seeing this comment. I'd really recommend looking up a UA-cam video on how to do them, they aren't that hard to pull of they just take a little practice and you got it. Also they show up in tabs like this "" for example.
