    I am one of those buying my third plane and really appreciate the extra time you take explaining the process. The ultimate 3d is my third plane, I'm hoping to start with low rates and advance with the plane. Thanks again. I did purchase it through your links.

      Awesome! We're so glad you GET the value we're trying to add. Some don't think it's necessary, and I have to constantly remind them what the little double arrow to the right does - LOL ;) - They can skip ahead, but YOU can watch the whole thing if you need help ;) After all, one of the HARDEST parts of this hobby is leaning how to use the stuff.The MFG'er just assume we all manically know how to do everything!!! It's a STEEP leaning curve, even for those of us who are into tech stuff...like most of us are!
      Thanks for being here whit us William.
      Set those rates REAL LOW...especially the elevator, and expo the crap out of it, and she'll fly rock solid for you!

    THANK YOU! You made this build not only easy for me but the remote process all together! I honestly felt like you were here right beside me! Even laughed out loud at some jokes! Just wanted to say thanks for the video and making this process a breeze! I did it with a DX8 but your help was all on point. Less time building and frustration= more time for flying! Thanks Brian, you and your camera crew;)!

      Glad we could help! This is why we do the build, and radio setup. I know some get annoyed by us adding these parts, but I know there's a lot of folks just learning how to navigate these waters, and we want to help!

  • @user-gl5yk5ys5b

    I graduated to this plane from my Carbon Cub S2. I use the DXs transmitter from the Cub.
    I was getting pretty good with this 3D plane, flying it without SAFE mode at all times, just with the rate reducer switch on.
    Then I flew it on a windy day and let it get too far away. I tried putting it in safe mode, put it in a circle and increased the throttle to get it way up in the sky, so I could see which way it was going, but the wind kept pushing it and I finally had to give up. I shut the prop off and let it land wherever it landed, over a wooded residential area. Never found it.
    There is a really big difference in flying this plane vs the carbon cub. I was flying the cub with the throttle on full at all times and always going to maximum throw on the control sticks to get some performance out of it, but if you do that with the Ultimate 3D it will snap roll 10 times in 2 seconds. This is definitely NOT a beginner plane. Not even close.
    So I had to un-learn maxxing out the control sticks.
    I watched this video to see where you put the battery. I did the same, 4S flush with the front strap. You need velcro, the battery likes to slide back.
    I bought another one to replace the one that flew away. Did the maiden flight yesterday. I flew very stiff and awkward, all paranoid about losing it again.

I still want to make the Throttle Stick an Absolute position, like on a drone or heli....center stick at 0% output....down would be REVERSE 100% and up would be 100% FORWARD.... but then swappable with a single switch. I bought this plane on your recommendation so to speak. I’ve watched the video a few times too in order to help with assembly. The clips look like a pain. Anyway, the plane shows up tomorrow. I use Futaba electronics so the only challenge looks to be receiver/transmangler set up.

    I have over 40 years experience, and yes I started using a Kraft and crystals …. I highly recommend you start reading each and every owners manual you get involving your equity you use … I have watched you on your video for 2 hours and 6 min 59 seconds and I have seen you struggling to program your DX18 .. I actually have the same radio you are attempting to manage…. no the slider cannot be used to turn thrust reversing on and off , that slider doesn’t have the proper end point adjustments, I do not use fail safe because do you let go of the wheel on the car just before you have a collision in hopes the car “ corrects” things for you? .and do not put negative numbers on your expo because if your control surfaces are the size of a queen size mattress , it doesn’t matter …. If it’s not moving you won’t have any affect on the plane at all because with your setting to soften the blow so much you are absolutely helpless when you need all the control you want ,,,, and it’s not there! I give all my planes way too much power because power WILL GET YOU OUT of trouble. But with your settings established you won’t go nowhere but where that plane takes you and your no longer flying the plane ,,,, its flying , you ! I suggest you get more stick time . And no practice does not make it perfect ,,, but perfect practice does !!!! Call me if you need help … I have taught countless new pilots to fly with my hyperactive flying that is now considered and called 3D ., several of your PROs in the world know exactly who I am . Just ask a few … Mr Pickering knows me,,,, I built several of his planes and he used my designs in design schemes and mechanics of the planes …. Talk to you later boss … but no not use NEGATIVE on your expos to get “soft sticks” … Michael S. Hendrick…

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  6 днів тому

      I use NEGATIVE expo only when I want to make a plane more snappy. I wonder if I may have mis-spoke in my video, or possibly I was still learning this - not sure, but 3 years ago, I thought I had already understood this...but maybe not?

  • @mongoose4117

    Brian i have the ultimate. Its such a sweet plane. I run 2700mah roaring tops 35c and I get 6:30 min flights easily. Ive learned so much more 3d with this plane. Its ability to hover is so strait forward. She wont stall on you, you dont have to worry about keeping her moving. Just tip your nose up and alpha, she will fly at any alpha angle at crawling speed, inverted as well, easily. I fly the steel rod as well. I've never run 3s in her and I've also flown 3300mah 4s. She still flys 3d great, with the heavy pack Your looking at near 8 minutes. Thats doing allot of slow flight, gliding and then knife edge and hovering galore. Shes so well behaived, she wont let you down. I enjoy the unlimited verticle. From hover to strait up, with acceleration!! I also love the contrast, its very easy to maintain orientation!! Anyway, I know you can handle way more 3d. Thr best thing about the ultimate, besides its quality build and great looks, is the ease at wich she rotates and lands!!

    Do you think this one slows down better on approach or lands slower than the Extra? I think I'm narrowing down my short list to this, the 1.2m P-51D, and the Night Timber X...
    Someday a 2.1m Cub or 1.5m warbird maybe... but not really into wanting jets, smoke or gas/glow, etc..
    Do you think those could all be done with an NX6, or should I be looking at the DX8e/NX8...? Gonna look into a dual smart charger and some Spektrum batteries in Spring, but want a radio and new plane to get me back into flying... last flight was my Gemini, about 2 years ago. I have 4 ready for the sky just hanging.... :(

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому

      If you're staying in the hobby, go for the NX8. The NX6 will do most of the stuff you have on your list, but you might want some additional features down the road.
      NX bit.ly/3mbVuNB
      Don't get the DX - they're going to be discontinued soon...unless you can snatch one up SUPER cheap, and if you do, you HAVE to get the DX8!

      It is big; a full 3.5 lbs W/ a 4S, 2200. I can fit it in the back seat though its a tight fit getting it in. Getting in those wing connectors was a pain on the 1st one then the rest went in pretty well. I did bind it W/Safe with the option for AS3X. It is such a different plane for me and I am just a little concerned so I will start with SAFE on. On my Valiant and Trojan, I avoided SAFE. Hope to maiden it soon.

  • @sr-sr592
    @sr-sr592 2 роки тому +1

    I setup the SAFE as you did. However I am not sure AS3X is on when I turn SAFE off. How do i confirm that ? The surfaces do not jitter when i shake the plane. Also when I did the maiden and turned on SAFE it would hardly turn on ailerons even though my travel is close to 80%. Any thoughts

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому +1

      AS3X is the basis for SAFE. It's stabilization. When SAFE is on, AS3X is also on. So when you're in SAFE, you have "auto-leveling" as well as stabilization.
      SAFE will limit your pitch and bank angles.
      Lots to learn, but keep at it!

I had my eye on the turbo timber for the longest time and then this one popped up. Landing in grass is my biggest complaint. it needs to be really smooth unless ytou like somersaults.... and all of the areas by my house are nice sized fields with strategically placed trees around the perimeter making it hard to land on the road.

      It's good, but I can tell with a rough landing, you'll be straightening them like the Cirrus SR22T, or the Air Tractor, or the Maule...they all share this issue, BUT this plane is the type that you just keep flying onto the runway, so it's not actually too hard to land. If you were trying to "stall" into the landing, it would be easy to bend. PLUS since you have REVERSE THRUST, which is COOL, you can land and then reverse the thrust to slow way down quickly. This takes QUITE a bit of practice, since I have a real hard time with it so far. I kinda want to make a mode where throttle stick UP is throttle forward, and throttle stick DOWN is Reverse thrust...that would be cool!

Major yaw and rocking even when I had safe on. You said the night Timber was extremely easy to fly in one of your videos, my question is are the regular Timbers easy to fly when you have the flaps deployed? Brian Just recieved Mr Eflight Ultimate Can I have reverse thrust with my spectrum DX6 and how too.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Рік тому

      I don't think they offered Thrust Reverse when this plane was first released, so if you have an AVIAN ESC in yours now, you may be able to do it like we do on any recent release, but if NOT, you'll have to use these tools to update firmware(s), then possibly worst case, update Rx firmware too...
      Avian ESC Programmer Firmware Updater bit.ly/3PFWmZY (For the ESC)
      USB to PC Programming SPMA3065 TX/RX USB Programming Cable bprc.me/SPMA3065 (For the Rx)
      ...HOWEVER, I don't know if you'll be able to setup THRUST REVERSE BELOW CHANNEL 7...and since I don't actually have a DX6, I can't answer your question with certainty. Don't want to mislead.
      Here's my suggestion, if you can stomach it, start thinking about the NX8 or NX10. There's never a great time to have to upgrade your Tx, but you might be hitting a wall here - and when you hit it, you'll keep hitting it. If you're hooked, and you're planning to STAY hooked, the NX10 will keep you set for YEARS, and potentially hundreds of planes.
      that being said, you can try it and see if you can find it with FIRMWARE UPDATE on your DX6, but I doubt it'll allow you to do it on Channel 6 (I thought it was limited to channel 7 - if I'm wrong, my sincere apologies)
      bprc.me/Tx - I think you should start thinking about the NX10

    Great Great review. Good idea to start with the flight and then the keen (me) can carry on watching it all. Looking to get this for my 3rd plane. I’m in the UK. So can’t buy it via your link. Sorry.
    Seems to make sense to get 4S batteries rather than 3S. Assume if you fly slow & sensible the 4s should last a minute or so longer too ? So why not jump straight in to 4s. Is there a big difference to 50c or 30c. What is best ‘future proof’ buy ?

      Difference between the C rating is small, but may be slightly noticeable in longevity of the packs, especially in Heli's and performance planes. This plane is not pushing the pack hard.

    I just got this plane for Christmas! Can't wait to fly it. I only fly my planes fpv. Iv had 10 planes. I also have the Pitts 850 and it's great fpv. Do you think I'll be ok with my experience with a stunt plane, to fly this?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому +1

      Sure, but it's a SNAPPY CRAZY plane, so setup some extra expo, and make sure to bind her with AS3X & SAFE for when you get into a weird situation. It's a GREAT flying plane, and will calm down for a landing just fine, but she'll fly BACKWARDS if you're skilled enough!

      If you're having trouble getting in the air, run more EXPO and put your rate back to a higher level. It'll have similar results, but you'll find it's easier to fly in almost any situation.

    Alright man, hopefully others read this reply.
    Calling out beginners when you bought a 3D plane and kept excusing yourself by saying “I don’t fly 3D so.....”
    I have been flying for less than 5 months. Started with a UMX Timber, the a Carbon Cub (that trainer one from EFlight). Then went to a T-28, then a Maule, then a E Flight Pitts along a the EFlight Extra and P51, then the Viper and now the Ultimate.
    Balsa planes, Leader 480, Slick 480, PAXR52, Pilot Yak (53”) and an Extreme Flight 60” 300 EXP wraps the electric crew. I also have a crashed EFlight Sukhoui 29 (low inverts and I pulled :/, no switch can save you there lol)
    Nitro plane 65” Phoenix Edge
    Gas plane 78” Pilot Extra 330LX
    All those in with less then 5 months flying. Only one I have not flown yet is the gas plane as I have not yet completed its assembly.
    Now if you read this far that’s impressive, reason I am posting is because all of that quick learning was made possible by the correct use of SAFE.
    My non EFlight models have the AR637T so I could program an envelope mode along with a SAFE panic to level the plane if I lose orientation.
    5 months and doing flat spins, blenders, inverted turns, something like hovers and trying to learn spinning turns (whatever those are called).
    Point is don’t discourage the newbs, approach with caution should be the motto. I am a newb, 5 months with over 15 planes already as I am sure I left something out and 3 Helis now as well. Admittedly I cannot do much with the Helis yet, those are well let’s just say, tricky...lol
    Once you learn orientation along with plane response based on amount of input by using SAFE, you can pretty much fly anything.
    Yes I have replaced a few wheel skirts, landings are still inconsistent with me. Getting better quickly though.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому

      I have never discouraged new pilots. You would know that if you had been around my channel for the last 5+ years; just look back and see... Most new pilots don't have half the dedication you have, so giving unreasonable expectations is only going to put beginners into a high likelihood of early and fatal failure...IE, buy, crash, quit. I don't want to put people up to this. I want to, and HAVE for 5+ years, encouraged people the same as I always have...fly a lot. Start on an easy, solid plane, and fly it till it's broken beyond repair. Upgrade when you can afford it. Fly as often as you can, and work up to where you want to be. Etc... You might be the best pilot in the world, or you might just be working harder or some combination of the two, either way, congratulations on advancing through the ranks so fast, but you are somewhat of an exception to the rule. I worked hard and spend hours and hours every week on the sticks flying all the time. I too advanced through the ranks in my areas of interest, and I too attribute SAFE to much of my early success. SAFE opens door to get people out in the real world. I didn't learn on a simulator; I learned in the real world. That being said, SAFE doesn't substitute for practice, and skills learned over years. SAFE DOES help new pilots' planes live to fly another day...but the real skill of flying comes with time and practice.

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Hey man, you may have took what I said the wrong way. Thank you for the reply as it is appreciated.
      What you said in that reply is how you should say it in videos concerning experience levels, what’s the right plane etc.
      I cannot use a SIM, they do nothing for me. I believe it’s the 2D effect etc. I have maybe an hour of total time using a simulator and it was pretty much a wasted hour lol.
      I have had many people ask me how I advanced so quickly. First off I am far from new to RC, many years of 1/8 buggy racing. This does nothing to teach you flight, but it does help to pick up on orientation quicker. Just have to transfer the muscle memory to sticks and not a wheel. I answer them with an explanation of SAFE and how to properly teach your self using it. I set it as on or off on the “A” switch so it’s right next to where I hold the TX at. (Fingers rest right below it)
      I am going to say one additional thing concerning SAFE. What I use it for now is to save myself when I start trying tricks.
      It’s funny to me to me how many have said “oh I don’t even turn that on man” then I look back at how many of them have crashed stuff at my club over the past 5 months of me being there. Half of those crashes wouldn’t have happened if they had used SAFE as panic recovery as I do. I don’t use it much anymore, but I keep my finger right on the switch when trying new stunts.
      Thank for the time man and your dedication to your channel. I have been going through lots of your past videos. You have me wanting an EC-1500 Twin now lol. 3D a transport then drop out a parachute guy, oh yea that would get some attention lol.

Its best to connect the batteries and leave them for a bit to stabilize the voltage with each other and then start the charge. Just as we jump 1 car with dead battery to another with full charge in parallel. Should be safe as long as they are the same voltage.
