  • Now here's the recycling collection in Leichhardt, done by a small MJ rear loader during bottles week - specifically chosen for the crashing =] There were some real nice sharp crashes, with some of these bins full of glass being summer; I bet it affects the hearing after a while! Also you got more manual lifting here, some real heavy bins that make this the ultimate workout. I reckon if companies want to stop the guys lifting the bins manually, because of occupational safety, they need to make the lifter work faster... otherwise this becomes the most efficient and fastest means of collection.
    I'd like to give a big cheers to this team, a very friendly couple of blokes. Definitely some hard workers who should be able to put their feet up, sit in front of a digital widescreen TV and have a beer in hand at the end of the day :) Hope you enjoy the footage, please rate and comment, then take a look at the garbage collection.
    Body Make: MacDonald Johnston
    Model: 15m JM Series
    Chassis: Hino GH
    Council: Leichhardt Municipal
    Contractor: United Resource Management (URM)
    Collection Type: Bottles Recycling

    I love how the driver pops the parking brake and is out of the truck before it stops completely. Thats the sign of a true trashman! Been there, Done that!

    Thanks! The first time I did a bit of bottles route on an RL, I didn't understand the concept of raising the lifter to avoid spillage... so I learnt the hard way when glass and plastic bottles went all over the street lol While the driver was doing a few stops in a previous street, the runner was setting up all these bins in the middle of the street so they were ready for a quick collection.

    That's the bins prepared for a quick pick-up; sitting right beside the truck instead of across the road. I like the way these guys operated, very quick and efficient getting things ready to go.

    Great job! Watching them lift with their backs just looks painful. I always tried to get under the bins and lift with my legs. When I was working, they told us they "couldn't" speed up the tippers, either because management wouldn't allow it, or it would "cause the tipper to break more often." Excellent video 5*

    As said above a lot of paper and cardboard goes to China, but in addition to that China takes a lot of the plastic materials too, due to their large demand for raw materials to accomodate their heavy manufacturing industries. However, obviously certain regions of Australia keep the materials for their own manufacturing uses and we import to another variety of countries particularly in Europe.

    Fantastic work Mitch for the bins the garbage mans should use the joystick because it's a lot easier and this truck looks new.

    Thanks for the praise and comment =] The full yellow ones are the older bins, meaning the yellow-lidded are the newest.

    The glass that is sorted into colours is made into new glass. The glass that is crushed and can't be colour streamed at the MRF is either sent to a special glass sorting facilitiy in Laverton, VIC to be recycled also, or yes they can be used as agreggates - from bad memory of what I may've read, I think the crushed glass can be used for road bases?

    @3amrepmike3 I am not sure about what they will do when it comes to bins, because each house has two bins (one paper, one bottles) at the moment and I reckon they're getting pretty old too. Chances are when they change they'll just give residents brand new bins, I'm guessing either 120L or 140L... just depends on the council. Also the runner placed everything in the centre of the street for a quick pick-up. Would be considered dangerous having bins there too long, even with the bright yelllow :D

    must have missed this one. I love how they empty these manually. Who would have thought manual collection was more violent on bins than automation LOL oh and BTW now I want a 32/120L Wheelie bin in yellow REALLY bad haha I wish companies here seperated each material like this. Rather than co mingle in 90% of its locations

    Great job Mitch! I like how they raise the lifter to keep the recyclables from going all over the street. Why were the bins from the right side of the street in the middle of the road? And I like the bright yellow bins!

    @MitchellM15 so are they just going to use the same bins but have residents set them out as needed with mixed recyclables or swap them out of a 240L? Also do the residents set there bins in the center of the road or did a worker do that to make things easier? centainly dont have to worry about a car hitting them as there bright yellow!

    If you refer to that yellow-cabbed truck parked up in the distance, it isn't another recycle truck.

    Yer all that lifting would definitely take it's toll on the body! I know what you mean about using the legs, I guess you gotta have a lot of muscle down there to lift some of this heavy shit... sometimes just gotta go with the back :/
    I'm sure there're some kind of safety issues to do with speeding up lifters, can always find something wrong with it haha Apparently when you speed up lifters they do break more often... perhaps due to more pressure on the pump + hydraulics?

  • @AussieGarbo
    @AussieGarbo  15 років тому

    Sorry are you asking about what the drivers say to me when I film the trucks?

  • @AussieGarbo
    @AussieGarbo  14 років тому

    @3amrepmike3 Yeh dumping them manually is breaking the rules, but cuts the run down heaps compared to using the lifter constantly. Yeh the bins can really get smashed around =] Won't be much longer until all of Sydney has commingled recycling; one council changed early this year, another changed weeks ago and another is changing soon too... this'll leave 9 councils :/
