Contestants: Leo Schwab vs Vance McGirt - Playing Games: Bagman, Super Pac Man, Super Zaxxon, Pole Position, Star Trek. Grand Prize: BurgerTime Video Arcade Game
Arcade games back then had a difficulty setting where the owner of the cabinet could change the speed or difficulty of video games back then. I remember accessing this on games back then. Pacman had a speed setting that could slow down or speed up Pacman and it made it much harder when it was at the slowest setting.
BurgerTime is one of my favorite golden age arcade games. I have it on my Switch and it's prefect to play for 5-10 minutes and see how far I can go. Super Pac-Man looked like it was on the hard settings.
That guy with the glasses is probably the best player I have ever seen in a Starcade episode. I'm wondering if he cheated the system? The guy is a bit cold and calculating. Further, he acts a bit aloof...I could see him throwing his game during tryouts to get placed with players below his abilities. His opponent isn't a bad player by any stretch but he was nowhere as good as glasses.
Well, he didn't win the grand prize, so I don't think he necessarily cheated, maybe he had just practiced a lot beforehand and was having a good day. He might be high-functioning Autistic, or just a very "cerebral" type that is more "to the point" but lacks some social warmth/graces - I've known people like that, very intelligent, but hyper-focused on their chosen field with all their intellectual "bandwidth" being allocated to that field and not much left over for aforementioned social graces.
Has anyone won one of those arcade games, I believe producers made it impossible for players to win one. "You need 4,000 points in 30 seconds to get the prize", impossible without a cheat.
@yellowblanka6058 I don't know....getting a full sized cab in the 1980's had to have a cool factor of 10. The taxes on 2k isn't that bad, especially not if you consider what you're getting. No, let me tell you where I'd have a problem... A couple of times on this show, they gave away these stupid Android robot things. They cost around $5k-$9k a piece and are still being made today. Had I been on this show and made it to the end where we're playing for the grand prize and they said "no cab," I would refuse to play until they fixed the issue.
Great to see more episodes with Geoff Edward’s hosting. Man that Super PacMan was in mega hard mode: those energizers didn’t last two seconds lol.

The kid with the glasses is an amazing gamer.
Geoff saying "well you didnt stay in the air" was brutally hilarious.
You are in a select club if you remember this show.
never see that coming

Most home ports of the arcade game that I’ve played seem to be on the same settings.

I was thinking the same.

Glasses was sandbagging.😂

I Have SUPER PAC-MAN On The PAC-MAN MUSEUM On Nintendo Switch.
That’s cool that they have the Data East BurgerTime cabinet! I only ever saw the Midway cabinet in person.
Data East was the original creator of the game. I don't know where the name "Midway" came from in relation to "BurgerTime."
This is my favorite episode!

The only aggravating thing about this show is it apparently ONLY had people on who were from California.
What’s the sound effect playing during the space shuttle simulator bit?
I think it's from the game Xevious.
@@psterud Yep. Sounded familiar.
@@marcadiadd5681 Same. Annoyingly familiar. Took me a while to figure it out.

There were like a few that did win but yes, it was double tough to win.
Yes, most players actually win the games. Watch a few more and you will see a great deal of happy people getting arcade cabs.
@@Sinn0100Probably not so happy when they learned they had to pay taxes/fees on their prizes.
