December Bluefin Tuna, From Zero To HERO
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- We struggle at the start of this trip. Pulling crimps. Pulling hooks. But we got things straightened out and landed our first ever December BLUEFIN TUNA.
We harvest one at 56" Curved Fork Length and release 3 others with the biggest probably 60-62" or so.
We end the video with Chris and Alana making some homemade sushi with the beautiful Toro belly meat. - Фільми й анімація
Merry CHRISTmas!
Immense respect for keeping in the crimp section of the video. We all learn and become better when people like you show what it actually takes to be out there getting it done. Great video, great lesson.
I appreciate that
It was definitely some insane bluefin fishing this fall, I went 3 times running and gunning and had 1 bite which unfortunately I pulled the hook after a couple of minutes.
I never chased em before honestly. That was so fun!!!!
Throw a happy anniversary or two in there too! Yeah, I'm doing a mini marathon with The Reaper and Tuna! That crimper mess was stinko! At least you're honest. It happens. God bless and safe travels! Especially for the folks involved with the Key Bridge in Baltimore. Don't know how many times I went over it when I was still driving truck.
Prayers to them and their families. Thank you so much for watching!! Many fun vids coming soon!
As a kid in the mid-70's , was 15 miles out of Barnegat Inlet going for blues when my dad spotted a school of football bluefin chasing bait, he immediately sent me down in the cabin to retrieve his tackle box with feathers and other lures to troll, I had forgot to bring the tackble box from the back of the station wagon, needless to say he was none too happy and we caught no bluefin that day, I know the feeling of screwing up and missing the chance on some bluefin, but you made a good comeback, I have still never caught a bluefin 50 years later
😂
aww man. Sorry you never got your bluefin. Thanks so much for watching!
After so long everyone needs a reminder on why they do things the way they do.
Yeah for sure. Thanks so much for watching John.
How far back are you trolling the lines?
about 4-600 feet
We all make mistakes it happens you fixed them and the rest is history way to go capt.
Thanks as always Chamberlain!!! I really do try and share the good with the bad.
Congrats on bagging a "ghost"! That sushi looked phenomenal. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!
Thanks so much! It was so good.
Merry Christmas Capt Chris! Our mistakes made, make us all better. Appreciate you being willing to share. We have all been there! Great work on landing some beauties.
Thanks so much for watching! I really do try to share the bad with the good.
Hey Captain, I think it is great that you show both success and failures. Thanks for keeping it real. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
thanks so much for watching! I really do try to share the good with the bad
Chris it is what we Midwestern's call a humbling experience.... Mutual of the story "If you don't exceed try try again and never give up until you exceed your goals or mission for the trip".... Luv the video Chris shows we all are human and not perfect!!!!
If this isn’t awesome I don’t know what it is!
Ha. THanks dude!
Yo bud, can we go togging now? Thanks for another incredible year on the blue water! Tog Slayer
Yes you can see the seals head's topping out of the water Capt. Chris
It's all the same stuff bro... Go by diameter and not the lb rating problem solved. Pull against your crimps with same diameter fluoro and tell me what you find
And great vid
Great video Chris!! It will be easier to crank on the fish if you tighten the nut on the bottom of the swivel rod holder, it's a bit of a feel and a preference. I would advise go as tight as you think you will need it and then add 1/4-1/2 turn more. When the fish has drag they will make the rod turn a lot easier than you think.
Yeah I totally forgot to do that!!! Thanks man!!!
Great video Capt. Thank you for the year of videos, I haven't missed any. Merry Christmas to you, and your family!!
You are awesome!! I can't thank you enough
Hey captain Chris I'm buying a new set of rods for my 80s I was thinking about getting a set of reeleasy rods I was wondering what rods you were using
Thanks so much for watching! These are actually Reel Easy Rods. So far so good. We bought them used from guys that used em for stand up Bluefin Fishing in the Carolinas.
Great video! Don’t let your day job control your life. Keep on getting those days out on the water. It’s inspirational to folks like me
Will do Jim. Thanks so much for watching!
I heard there was a bite going inshore OC
Drop a golf ball in the rod holder, poor man's swivel 🤣
makes sense!!! Thanks for the tip
White tuns=Toro
Roger . Thanks
Need more evenly spread rice on them rolls
We had those fish off RI for almost 3 months with lots of yellows mixed it. It was an epic summer for sure.
That sounds like an awesome fishery!! I think it's so fun when they are mixed together!
Hey Cap, what rod do you have the 80w paired with?
had the exact same thing happen to me this winter. would've had the first bluefin in Delaware of the year if i hadnt used the wrong size crimp by mistake🤦
lost a $30 wolfpack tackle ahi head, sad day. love the vids chris
THanks so much Connor. We all make mistakes
Cool video. Other than some 30lb yellowfin around the thirty line my best tuna was a 150lb big eye on a stand up thirty. No chair on the maiden voyage of the 35’ Cabo. We were short one eighty so we put the thirty closest to the boat. Of course he bit it.
That's an accomplishment for sure! Congrats. And thank you so much for watching!
Italiano Chris familia de familia
Nice rods, if u don’t mind…are those the long or short Winthrop butts? Also what swivel rod holder do u like. Thanks.
those are the longs. We bought ours from Skurge of the Sea
Just made some toro bluefin rolls myself, was a great end of the season
It was unreal wasn't it!!!
lol you can tie 130. Why are you crimping it. Especially not at the drag levels you’re using
Thanks for the tip!
All for the international viewers! hahah Bilingual videos lol LFG!
Ha!
Bad Ass!!
Love the catch and release!!!
Thanks so much for watching!
Cmon Chris we need the tuna vids to get us through winter!!! Lol
I have tons and tons of footage to share!! TONS!!! Coming soon
Reaper!!!
my man!
That’s awesome! Congrats. It’s been an incredible BF bite!!
From a 100% Abruzzese Italian (father was born there and mother in South Philly which was Italy in the 1920's), you NEVER should use a recipe, a good Italian cook knows how to cook by taste and memory, by the way, your Spanish is as bad as mine and I had 4 years in high school and a semester in college, no entiendo tu :-)
Ha. I'll get there. My dad's family is from Abruzzi I believe.
Why'd you release that one?
allowed two between 27-47" and one over 47" but less than 73"
Great video as usual, some lessons learned but you guys ended up doing great! That tuna looks sooo good, you left my mouth watering. Great job guys!
Thanks so much for watching Larry! It was so good!!
Awsome ! What rod is on that TLD?
Good stuff for sure. What wrap did you use? My kids didn't like my rolls the last time i did them. Yours looked great
thanks so much. Just regular nori seaweed. you can buy it right at any Acme.
I also go by the diameter not the lb test rating cause there's lot of different variations of the same lb test.
ok thanks andrew.
Cool videos👏🎣
Thanks 👍
Nice fish!
Thanks!
Burn the ends of your line when you go to crimp it I've seen the small hi seas crimpers the 1.3 crimps slip before those crimpers just don't put enough pressure down on the crimp. By burning your ends it eliminates any chance of a crimp slipping. This is just what I've done for a number of years and have been lucky enough to never have a crimp slip.
I burned the tips. guess my mushroom wasn't good enough
@@reaperfishingnj8623Wow the crimp could have just been bad and it was a freak thing. I feel like if you fish enough stuff’s going to happen. Even the past couple years I’ve seen ande and momoi a few times the knot blowing up. This was after tying a swivel on using a uni knot onto my trolling gear. Have broken a few windons off.
Merry Christmas cap to you and the fam see you out there on the grounds in a couple months 🤟
merry Christmas Nick. Thanks so much for watching! See ya out there.
get outriggers for the little boat
We are thinking about it!!!
@@reaperfishingnj8623 For the type of fishing you do, definitely not a bad idea.
They come in handy when it comes to setting a full spread.
Love your passion and sportsmanship!
Thank you so much!
Awesome video from start to finish. Your honesty, hard work and desire to educate makes you a great person. That’s why I love your videos. Keep them coming. Merry Christmas.
Thanks for the kind words Mike! Spread the word. More vids coming!
Chris, this fall/almost winter has been surreal. Its crazy to think of all the years where we were happy with one fish after quite a few trips.
Almost couldnt miss this year. If only the giant category was open.... still going on strong. Just wow
That was just insane!! Thanks so much for watching!. I still wanna kill a giant!
