  • Just the thing to satisfy that gun handling urge when you can't get out to the range, these Speer plastic bullets give you the option of a little indoor recreation in the comfort of your own home.
    This demonstration includes chronograph readings from the barrel of a Ruger LCR chambered in .38 Special.

    Did they not at one time market these under the brand name " Indoor Cat Repellent"? Maybe I'm just confused. On a more serious note, one problem that seems to exists when loading blank rounds is that there's not enough recoil / rearward force of the cartridge to flatten out the primer against the recoil shield; hence, causing the revolver to hang up when rotating the cylinder. It's interesting that primers backing out and hanging up against the recoil shield doesn't seem to be a problem?

      Might be a little late, but usually you have to prepare the case or better say the primer hole and drill it out a little larger, so the pressure of the primer goes freely into the casing/chamber without forcing itself back out because of a small hole

    I made some bullets out of Glue Sticks for a hot glue gun... and just loaded them into the brass... and reemed out the primer pocket for easier primer install.

    A couple thoughts. Started useing these in the early 70ties. They are a bit noiseir than you might think. Shot in your basement can be heard through out the house. Power wise, be careful. I shot through the side of a camper I own, so they do have some cat repellent power. On the plus side, you dont need a reloading tool. They are easy to use. And lastly, they can provide some shooting entertainment that otherwise might be to expensive. I like own and shoot both a S&W breaktop revolver chambered in.38 S&W and a Colt lightning chamber in .38 Long Colt. Two different guns two different calibers and these work in both. Ammo for these guns run high. Its black powder, I dont want to reload so these things just fill the bill. They wont hurt the guns and I get to do what I want. Pop caps and put holes in paper. It is my belief that if you have a .38 spl you shoud have a couple boxes of these. And if you dont own a .38 spl revolver, you should get one.

    Really nice video. I really enjoyed your demonstration of how these work and what to expect if I were to pick up a box or two of these. It's awesome to have someone who can post a video on a new concept like this and really show us what is out there. I honesty had not even heard of these. Lots of thanks to you my friend. Well done. These would be great for the garage !

    Since I reload as well as cast, I keep brass I'd throw away (Maybe because a neck is beginning to split or something) size it, prime it, feed it half a grain of powder or none at all and then put a hot glue projectile coming straight from the mould. I shoot in my workshop... Great fun, no expense at all, good trigger practice!

  • @theKGB65

    I don't think these exist as .22s because you would be dealing with a center-fire primer and an offset firing pin. Unless you were able to discard the bullet and powder charge on a .22 rimfire case and use the primer charge as a one-shot way to fire some sort of plastic bullet. You're giving me ideas for a new project now!

  • @sionaprhys
    @sionaprhys 12 років тому

    @theKGB65 LOL! I use my stray live primers as kitty litter. Keeps kitty on his toes. The primers won't back out because the flash hole is bigger than standard. Plus the plastic doesn't grip the primers as hard as brass so they won't tie up your cylinder. When you prep brass cases for shooting wax bullets, you ream out the flash hole for the same reason but you can't use them for powder loads after that.

  • @theKGB65
    @theKGB65  12 років тому

    @WeAreTwoDoorsDown No, I don't believe they would cause any problems. The primers are not as loud as if you were to shoot them from an empty shell casing; the bullet softens the report quite a bit.

    they dont make plastic bullet ones, however CCI makes .22lr quiets same size as normal but the velocity is 710fps(advertised) with a 40gr projectile, they are only quiet in a rifle, pistol will still be loud but not as loud as normal, they work in semi autos but you have to use it like a bolt action. can also find and use(in bolt actions) .22 cb shorts,.22cb longs, aguilla super colibri in there and will be quiet. hope this helps. the cci 22 quiets go through 1 1/2 peices of 3/8 plywood.

  • @WeAreTwoDoorsDown

  • @Duckyistrippin

    No problem, alot of handloaders will take a standard bullet mold, and fill it with hot glue. also works well, and can be had in a rainbow of colors.

    Buying these is sort of like buying a Zippo lighter just so you can try out a few tricks you saw on UA-cam. After a while they just collect dust but on those rare days in winter when we get bored it's nice pop a few targets, mainly just to see if the neighbors are paying attention. :-)

    @OldPackMule Thanks, I still get out at least once a week and shoot in the snow. You don't see it much because the little bit of winter video I've shot is pretty useless with the wind thundering over the audio.

  • @YesterGearPCii

    I don't see how the neighbors could complain, I use the .44's and I find them no louder than a kid's cap gun. I don't have a decibel meter, but I'd feel safe shooting them regularly without hearing protection, even though I've worn it every time after the first test shot to see how loud they were (force of habit).

  • @theKGB65
    @theKGB65  12 років тому

    @hickok45 Topped the casings off with Bullseye between scenes, cleared up the problem - haha.
    The primers fit the plastic pocket very tightly so far, but that's good info. Now I'll already know what to watch for when they start to loosen up.
    Cat Repellent - haha, watch out or the PETA folks will be all over you again! Artisan Tony had the same idea, by the way.

    You might also try wax bullets with a 209 shot shell primer that can be bought from a lot of suppliers. Just type in wax bullets. These will come out at a speed of 700-800 feet per second and can be shot in your basement. There is even a machine to load 50 of them in under one minute. Visit www.easyloaderpress.com to see how much safer and faster they really are.

    Please be aware that shooting indoors with standard primers can cause high levels of airborne lead contamination due to lead styphnate as the priming compound.

    I shot these inside my house in the late 70's. I was shooting about 10 ft at a box & I had just put up some 1/4" panneling. Trying to retrieve my bullets, I moved my box & I had 6 round holes in my paneling. Be careful with these they will penetrate a person at close range.

      Cool fister For one thing, 400-450 fps is too slow for any penetration, you would probably just piss the bad guy off. In a semi-auto, you would only be able to fire one round and pull the slide for a second shot.

    Don't bother to order the red plastic cases in as much as the black plastic Speer Bullets are NOT available anywhere. I utilized this product 40 years ago and they in fact can be very dangerous. Use Caution if your able to locate the black plastic Speer Bullets. I have put a lot of time into trying to locate a source for the plastic bullets. I made a phone call to Speer manufacturing and the person I spoke with advised me that the Bullets weren't in stock. When I inquired as to why they were not in stock he hung up on me. I have at this time concluded that the Wax Bullets are the only way to go for both .45 Long Colt and .38/357.
