It really depends on the daycare. People need to do their research and make sure the staff is well-trained and enthusiastic about their work. Make sure dogs are actually getting enrichment and is learning while at daycare. Too many daycares are just free-for-alls with inexperienced teenagers running groups of dogs that are way too big. Those are the ones creating problem dogs.
The problem with early socialization is thinking puppies need to meet every other dog possible. The real word we should be using is desensitization. Being able to be in a room with other dogs or puppies and be in a calm neutral state and focused on you. Puppy classes and continuing obedience classes is way more beneficial then daycare. You can develop a dog reactive puppy with over socialization. So you’ll be walking your puppy and they see another dog and they will want to play because thats all they know. Also for puppies who cannot settle. Crate train. Taking a puppy out to play because they won’t settle you will create an athlete. Especially for higher drive breeds like a BC. Crate training to settle is a much more balanced and realistic way to teach a puppy to settle.
Had to drop in again with another comment. My daycare (k9 Activity Club) was playing your channel on the big screen when we picked X up. That was kind of cool actually.
My 9 month old standard poodle pup absolutely loves her doggy daycare. We put her there when we have to go out for a long time or if we need overnight care. They love her there too. She is a very energetic pup and is having the zoomies out on the deck as I write this. Lol. She comes home from the daycare nice and tired. She’ll be excited when she learns she gets a second day there this week. Oh and they post doggy pics on their instagram and the dogs are so happy their tongues almost touch the ground in the photos. The biggest doggy smiles ever.
I have no doubt. I’m spending thousands on behavioral modification due to taking her to dog day care. I thought I was doing a good thing for her but after the second injury I pulled her out. She is absolutely perfect until she sees another dog. It’s been a nightmare. 😢
If you vet the daycare properly, you can find one with trained professional behaviorists or trainers that can help improve your life with your puppy. They can help with manners and socialization. But I have no doubt there are bad ones as well. Just like breeders. It all comes down to research.
DOGGIE DAYCARE GUIDE! would be FUCKING AMAZING! A lot of new doggie daycare businesses are popping up and they suck! A lot of them put the animals in dangerous situations by encouraging a negative environment. Dogs are handled aggressively I want to start my own doggie daycare out of my house but I'm not a trainer. I want to create a doggie daycare that actually cares about the dogs safety and reinforces training especially since in NY experience living in Illinois, here most people don't train their dogs properly and I've seen the negative sides of that in daycare.
I just got a border collie cross staffy. She's seven months old. I work from home so don't really need to send her to doggy daycare but considering enrolling her for one day a week for socialising purposes
Will and Rachel thank you for all your advice. My German Shepard is 12 weeks now and doing really well. Seems like every question I have, you have the answer. He is booked in once a week for socialisation 💙
I worked in a daycare in UK and the company keep more 35 dogs I’m just only 20 square metres. But the worth thing is the owner never have curious to know where they keep the dogs and even never visit the place during workings hours.
Can you feature American Bulldog in your Mastiff tournaments as well? I would also like a top 10 cross breed guard dogs with the inclusion of the Turkish mastiff. Can you also make a video on which breed is better: a pure bred or cross breed? Love the show and keep climbing!!
@@anshvelagapudi2260 he could remove the Tibetan Mastiff too. There's no way in hell it is a appropriate for a first time dog. Spoiler: English Mastiff is going to win.
Does canine boot camp training also include manners? My 11month beagle is a bit reactive to some dogs and things. I dont think my dog sees me as a true leader yet. He doesnt listen when he get excited.
Is it rude to ask questions if you want to take your dog to day care . Like will my dog have time to rest if it wants 2. Have you had any issues with dogs in the past . Are dog left alone with no one to watch them .
Not at all at the one I work at we often get these questions its just making sure your dog has the best possible care. WE actually ask similar questions to the owner i.e how they are with other dogs and do ask if they need extra nap times as we generally have two one in the morning and one in the afternoon
Not rude at all. Also not rude to ask about what kind of temperament testing a daycare does. It should be strict. In both of the daycares I worked they had live cameras that a dog owner could tune into anytime. I think that’s really important. You can see how your dog is acting, how other dogs are behaving, what size dogs are being put together in the same playgroup, if your dog is loving or hating their time there and how the staff interact with the dogs. Honestly, some dogs love daycare and some just hate it. Also, they should never be left with no one to watch them unless they are having lunch or rest time in their kennel, but never in the playroom/playgroup. Not for one second did we ever leave them unattended with a dog from outside their own home. No staff on cell phones, that kind of thing. Don’t be afraid to ask ANY questions when it comes to the safety of your dog. If they are being cagey or not giving you satisfactory answers, then you have your answer. Many daycares also have rules such as no intact dogs in playgroups (or no intact males) or no greyhounds in playgroups with small dogs. Also limits on playgroup size and how strictly they adhere to that. I was once in charge of a pack of 36 dogs, alone. That was not legal at the time, but when these places are understaffed it can happen (especially during busy times of year like the Christmas season). So ask about things like that. I will also add that some places train their employees very well with canine behavior, body language, etc. and some just throw people with a very small amount of dog experience in with a pack of dogs. So maybe it wouldn’t hurt to ask what kind of training their “playgroup supervisors” have. This is all for doggy daycare in America (specifically Colorado) so I’m not sure how it is elsewhere. But this advice really applies anywhere. Hope this helps!
My pup is 10 months old. He’s a pittie/lab mix. He loves dogs and people, but he likes to play rough and be growly while he plays. He’s never been to daycare before. Is it too late to start?
My Cane Corso goes to daycare. He has been having some issues with rough play. Will be ever learn more appropriate play with continuing going to daycare?
I have a question about doggy day cares. I was wondering if it is legal for a daycare to not walk the dog? Of course I'm assuming it depends on the amount of dogs as well as enrichment I was wondering since I go to one that doesn't have much enrichment other than the other dogs and human contact (some of the staff/work experience workers) so I was just wondering if this is an ok environment (I haven't been able to find out much about the place including how many days each dog is there for since I only go one day a week which is the busiest day apperently which has 40+ dogs).
Do not expect maintaining training as art of their agenda. It’s okay and that is it but they can pick up certain habits from them depending that you may not want to bring home but is better than say dog parks I feel
Jack Reaney. Try and see what guard dog is best for you. Then show them videos of the breed. Dogumentry is a channel I’ll recommend. As well as this one of course. Then I’ll recommend looking at breeders near you. If a Breeder is too expensive then I’ll recommend a rescue. It took me a year to convince my family. What can also help is saving up yourself. Then see if you guys can make a deal we’re it’s half and half. You can find a lot of videos for free on training. But be beware that you might need a trainer if you don’t have any training experience. Hope this helps☺️
@@choosy69 some dogs can be good without being tired but as a general rule of thumb they're little terrors to furniture if they're bored and overactive.
I must disagree about getting puppy into daycare as early as possible. Just like toddlers, all socialization should be done by parents/humans. If one wants to build on socialization using daycare that’s another issue. But in terms of forming good social behavior… that should come from human owners and/or primary trainer.

7 of 10 training cases that I do are due to doggy day cares mistakes. Anxious dogs, reactive dogs... they create little monsters.

Dogs will learn from each other what is acceptable behavior, but he will need to play with well mannered dogs of the same size.
