Dont just back up with the load with your forks extended. Retract them first then lower then extend then drop
You are all correct about this. This is why you need proper training and not just this video. It is federal law that you take a course through your employer.
I was thinking that too, although I've never operated a reach truck.
I do this at my job because I saw everyone doing it to make standards. I'll be sure to stop this

Its all in the tilt. Most challenging knowing the forks are tilted enough to go through the whole pallet and not get caught half way going in pallets thus making you get caught up
most of the time you dont even have to touch the tilt.You leave it at a perfect angle and you never touch it in your whole shift.
@@pope9349 lol personnaly I adjust it on every single pallet, I always travel with the fork tilted up. We also carry some pretty heavy stuff so they lean down with the weight.
but to get the perfect tilt, when entering a pallet in the high locations I use the camera. Its perfectly lined up with the forks.
Good video, I got licensed for this today and it was pretty difficult. The maneuvering is confusing, I'm going to try and practice more to get a better feel for it

DON'T LEARN FROM THIS GARBAGE! You must pull back your forks when you tilt up your forks on the load, then lower them as much as possible, turn, THEN extend your forks and place your load on the ground!
Do this everyday all day. Warehouse workers for life!!

It's pretty easy guys I've been driving for 6 years now you'll get it in about two weeks
I prefer raymond for high reaches and crowns for loading trailers. Have had great experiences from both though!

most companies certify through the company. i have a osha certification and they say they don't take them. so i basically had to do everything i was certified for all over again but for free this time. its really a waste of time to spend money to be certified just to be told it wasn't valid in the warehouse.
Yes, this is true, almost every company has their own certification. Once you have experience then you can get certified faster at a new place. Always obtain whatever license you need before you start driving. You will end up taking classes you already took like you said but hey, get paid to sit in class not too bad. Yeah doesn't make much sense to me honestly. A lot of places make it to easy and throw you on the truck right away. Especially when you work in a retail store/warehouse. I think they're should be a specific training center or specific training hands on courses in wide open spaces to get used to the machine before going down narrow aisles

learning is to not over thing the whole process. You need to gain
muscle memory so that it becomes second nature like driving a stick.
it takes a few weeks to get it down then you only get better. I only have 7 months experience and I am a fucking GOD on a lift. no one at work can even compete.
Yeah once you get used to it and let your muscle memory do the thinking it becomes second nature. Maybe we could have a reach truck derby and see who can handle this thing like a boss better????

You'll be surprised. Trust me, it's all muscle memory. Give it about just 2-3 weeks and you'll be mobbing around the warehouse on that thing like a NY cab driver with a bad attitude!

How did it end up going?
All I want to know is how to brake without it coming to a sudden stop and causing my back to jerk. What can I do to reduce back pain? Am I standing wrong, or braking wrong? I know there are other drivers out there who’ve experienced this. Your input would be invaluable to me and save from having more serious back issues down the road. Thanks guys. So much of a more practical reacher than a crown. I used to unload trucks with these babies too even though they are not meant for that lol. I drove these pretty damn good at one job for 6 years and could knock my work out in no time with

The maneuvering is the hardest part I’m on day 2 of training and my only problem is steering. You have to stay in the middle made that tight turn tough business
This is going to take some getting used to. Ive been driving Hyster forklifts for 2 years and although this seems familiar enough the little differences between the two brands are enough to make me a little nervous. On a Hyster you stand sideways the entire time you’re on it and theres a backrest to lean back on while you’re driving. Also the joystick or throttle controls are a little different, very intuitive. I’m sure I’ll get used to Raymond trucks in no time.

This thing is a pain turning on a narrow aisle and sometimes not paying attention you can easily clip the racks..but when you get used to it its great but be very careful using reach truck no matter what kind...
So true about being very careful. Always be aware of your surroundings at all times. Always let pedestrians have the right of way even if they tell you to go first. Thank you for watching and good luck on the tight turns. Just go as slow as you need to.
@@NKYDIY Yep. I always say that pedestrians can go first, just because they usually can't tell which way you will be going next. Four-wheel forklifts in that sense are pretty clear as the wheels are usually clearly visible when turned left or right. (uhm... as I write this, I don't know if the truck in the video has 3 or 4 wheels...)

Lol everyone that’s watching this to learn. You’re in for a treat when you hop on a newer model. Guess how you operate depends on what state you work in. I’ve seen dock operators though. Those guys are fucking wild. If their equipment wasn’t so beat to hell I’d say they were the kings
Well, no, I actually know how to operate such a thing and I do that for years already ;) I like to see how other trucks work (especially as reaching out forks from the mast seems to be a US-thing only, in Europe every reachtruck I know reaches out the whole mast and tilting the forks is sometimes also a complete mast-tilt (this usually for the trucks that don't surpass the 4,5 meter or so lift-height as beyond that, tilting the mast starts to become a risk)
But indeed, when I went for training, I went for the older model as that was the closest to the one I'm used to (no power steering, no fancy displays, no joysticks but dedicated levers for each function). But eventually I just had to try the Toyota BT Reflex models with cab-tilt. Driving, turning, reaching in and out was something I managed quite quickly. The fun started with the cab-tilt when lifting beyond 2 meter, which, as I expected, scares the shit out of you the first amount of times.

Fail. you should retract first before moving back with the load.
if you level your forks and tilted it up a bit to compensate for the load weight to be still leveled, then you won't even have to keep pressing the tilt all the time each move.
Thank you for the info. As for the fail, at least I'm out there trying to show people some controls to help them out. I never said I was certified this is all for information only. I would now like to see your video on the correct way to operate this machine as I assume you have access to one and a camera to film with.
Hey man , I was at a warehouse where it was sometimes hard to get a dropper ., at least this video is explained almost well enough to get your own load down ., maybe on a lower steel or a load that's not super tall . The one thing that should be explain IMO but it's obvious it's a 101 but that the steering is Left to Right and Right to Left but when you go from a sit down to a stand up the wheel is in front of you and not behind you ., makes steering a little tricky if you get on there and don't realize that but that's about it . I recommend having the forks in the load before extending and the last part taught me why you shouldn't bring the load in close while dropping because the board will hit the side bars by your forks if you have it in too close and drop it all the way down .,

Wrong if you retract and plastic is stuck on the the back that you can’t see pallet will fall. When you slowing pull back just try to hear for weird shit

This is a narrow aisle 'reach' truck, not a sit--down counter-balance forklift.
Not as ancient as the old Crown stackers....hahaha!!!!
@@NKYDIY I give it somewhere around 2000-2005 ;) The reachtruck I operate at work is (most likely) far older: no joysticks (dedicated levers for each function), no fancy displays (bulbs that light to show the parking brake, mast max-reachout, battery reached out and direction of travel) and a big click-clack switch for changing the direction of travel.
And oh yeah: no power steering...
It's an old Jungheinrich, but I should look at the tag someday to find out how old it really is.

Been driving these over 10 years. I was about to say good vid BUT. Huge mistake!!! Raise skid THEN tilt. and especially LEVEL YOUR SKID BEFORE YOU TILT DOWN!!! Omg I have seen so many accidents caused by doing what you did. You MUST level the skid especially before you lower it into the racking. Doing it backwards like you did can cause the racking crossbars to pop right out causing chaos!! Please change this for your own safety! There are people here trying to learn from you. People you shouldn't be learning how to drive a big powerful 3000+kg. machine on youtube, maybe for tips but get proper training. Not trying to bash your vid but this is a problem I have seen too many times.
You are right, they should and are required by law to be trained and certified/licensed by a trained professional. This is just supplement. Never tilt your load forward while in the air.

I honest hate the control design for raymonds. Why is throttle handle so far from the steering wheel? In Crown, I have larger visibility with the handle closer to the steering wheel. I heard new one added another handle to the front, which make driving more trippy.

i've been using the older once with single joystick on top. I liked them better but recently more places I go they ask me to use those. Good to know which one is for what :D

I am a 100% Raymond Fan...I am a 24 year driver...just a few questions....EVERY Video I watch...you guys are gonna wear out that tilt button, I set my forks at slightly above level and work all day with-out tilting like you guys do and WHY?...Do I not ever see one driver ever drive up to a pallet and straddle it in your out-riggers .....every body extends thier forks to pick up a pallet....very Rookie move
Hey I'm about to start a gig on a stand up habe sit down experience I'm having a hard time with the knob and.palte steering when I am on the thing knowing woch direction my wheels are sp I. Can straighten out I have like 10 mins and certification for it if you have any tips to get use to it
Still better than a Clark with 10k hours that breaks every other week

Dude didn't even retract his forks when pulling the pallet down and when putting it back up. DO NOT DO THIS. You are forcing the truck to work overtime to support the weight, which then might become a tipping hazard. I'm an MHE trainer at my work, if you did this in front of me I would either retrain you or fail you on the spot if you were taking the practical. Wow.
Not to mention its just extra work for no reason.

The guy next door just got a used Raymond and can’t figure out how to get the load weight function to work. No matter what he lifts it always reads 0 pounds. Any suggestions?
No sorry, you are going to have to consult the manual.

My job did a training course on this and damn i did terrible. Good thing i was the last person to test the forklift out i was so embarrassed and mad that i couldn't get the handling down. Fuck that forklift.

What about the steering,, why is it seem opposite to what u expect.
Because you are steering from one wheel on the "back" side of the machine.
Technically, You re supposed to drive with the forks behind you unless you are loading or unloading. This means, when your driving to your destination you should not be facing your forks. Just picture standing up on it and turning away from the forks to drive. Its a little awkward at first but you should have no problems getting us to it after a few practice runs. I was trained to drive this way because you are less likely to hit someone with the forks if they are behind you.Hope that makes sense and good luck

FINALLY ...A video with a Raymond Lift....The Absolute Best Ewuipment on the market....I am 100% Sick of all these Crown videos...The Absolute worst Piece of SHIT Equpiment there is....I am been driving for 23 years ....deal with pallets daily 2000 lbs and over....hardly ever use tilt....no need if you set your forks right....all you guys preach that tilt Way to much and Why are you extending your forks when the load is on the floor....drive up to it and straddle it with your out-riggers
