Freaking out aside, I love your music and other products. The Cures What Ails Ya mug and D20 are fantastic, with the D20 in particular seeming a little too lucky most of the time. Hmmmmmm, must be some of that bard magic.

It actually is in the expanse, with nicer places to live closer to the sections with gravity and even being able to breed by going to pricey moons and satellites that have enough gravity to minimize birth defects and etc.
All living creatures on earth evolved under the conditions of gravity. Weird things happen to us when we go into space.
@@Khrayfish A good example of this that's never addressed in sci-fi. When you go into a micro gravity, gravity stops draining your sinuses and you get the most blocked nose you've ever had. You basically can't smell or breath through your nose without gravity. Astronauts describe it as their "face feeling full". It sounds fucking awful. Imagine how dry your mouth must get.
You've got the people from Earth..., people who live on Mars..., and then the belters from the edge of the Galaxy' 🤔 I'm gonna need some citation on that 😅
@@markwilson7013 Not saying this is true of Tom, more just a shower thought, but it's really bizarre to me how many people just don't have any concept of what the structure of the universe is.
For me by about the age of twelve I was thinking "What the fuck is the universe?". Who doesn't have that thought at some point in their teenage years...and then who just leaves that question unanswered for their whole life.
It just doesn't make any sense to me how you could go through life and just never wonder what any of it is. To have no real strong understanding of what the moon or the sun are like lots of people I've met.
I just can't imagine having such a fundamental lack of curiosity.

i could listen to tom rant about roleplaying games and roleplaying stories all day, makes me wanna start playing myself again
Man Roleplaying games are some of the funnest things to do, if you have the right crew.
Me and my brothers have about 2.5 to 3 years of experiance with playing and home making tabletop pen and paper RPGs and trust me they are worth the time and effort!
I have been roleplaying all my life from D&D 2e on through 5e, Rifts, White wolf [both World of Darkness AND Exalted] even some Call of Cthulhu back at my first college, and Cyberpunk with some local barracked troops. I seriously think everybody could benefit from roleplaying. It's mind exercise. It gets you thinking more. You get in a habit of thinking outside the box. Also, you get in a habit of asking more questions and looking for more clues. Not to mention using your imagination to solve problems is absolute fun!

Honestly, in this game they are pretty trash. the rift lab is limited in how much ammo can be supplied every second so unless stuff is running out of ammo or takes too long to start building, they aren't needed. Thanks to m-rifts, they are something you build when you have excess energy or need to cross a large gap. Nothing more than that.

The authors’ name for The Expanse is a pen name. It’s actually written by 2 people that used to be George RR Martin’s writing assistants. That’s where they learned their world building. Many people find the books very similar to A Song of Ice and Fire.

I'd love to see more building sim, Tom has such a great sense of design. His cities were always really fun. Has he done any like planet zoo or anything like that?
He's done Planet Coaster, was the first thing he ever recorded for his own channel I think :o, But no planet zoo, only a few zoo-esc games

Tom! I’m here to answer your question. Those special objective towers are activated once you reclaim a certain amount of terrain from the creeper.
After you’ve cleared enough land they charge and activate. They themselves can be submerged and it doesn’t matter and unlike the totem objectives, they don’t need to be connected to your network.
The Expanse is brilliant. Really stresses the science part of Sci-fi.
Tom, I think you should try playing Planetary Annihilation: Titans. I think you would rly like it.

For anyone who likes Planetary Annihilation, SpringRTS is a free game engine for games similar to Total Annihilation (which PA was based on). I would recommend Balanced Annihilation for beginners.
Tom talks about how he can't get into new sci-fi because of the convoluted interplanetary lore. Funny how 40K is the definition of convoluted lore.
Yeah, so Tom's memory is like 50% 40K lore.
To be fair, he's been immersed in it for a very long time. Adding on little tidbits of new lore is less intimidating than approaching an entirely new sci-fi universe

One unit I've started using more is the shield. It takes arg to power (made from redon in the factory).
It can be used to close tight choke points (like a small gap in a wall) from creeper.
It can be used for the final push on emitters and spore launchers to protect the nullifier while it's building, because it pushes the creeper away, giving the cannons more time to shoot at it.
And it can direct anticreeper waves toward the front line without having to build a wall with terps.
man imagine if someone makes a creeper world with PvP, one playing as the creep (so making emitters, ''magnetism'' and spore targets etc) and the other playing the normal ''human''
That was my thought, almost. It was more "is pvp an option?"

Well Tom, as someone who also plays Creeper World, I can say that your playstyle isn't that bad. Making 500% more towers then needed is a bit upsetting, but turrets that don't use ammo don't use energy so its fine. Also, anti-creep tsunamis are always good.
24:27 it is funny how he talks of the great bluite usage, “despite the planes going ham”, which is because the AC planes are still waiting in the hangers; he hasn’t deployed them yet.
Watching the wall getting build wondering the whole time if Tom realizes it cut his own resources off from itself... He got REALLY lucky that one pilon went around it.
I much prefer your uncut videos Tom, more please. When videos are edited I feel like I'm only watching half the video. So this makes me very happy.

With this series I remembered I had creeper world 3 in a bundle or something, picked it up and couldn't put it down so moved onto creeper world 4. I find these games scratch a very particular itch, It's so satisfying cleaning the creep off the map and I play not quite like you i do try to cut up the map more than just line up my troops and inch forward but I wouldn't say it's much faster.
Love your voice and general ramblings. Any of the superchill videos have been really satisfying to listen to in the background.

You get the reclaim objective (the tall tower) by freeing the land of creeper. Whatever is the highest amount of land covered in creeper, you have to remove, say 75% of that amount and then keep the creeper under that amount for a certain time.
So for example if creeper covered 10000 tiles at its peak, you have to remove the creeper from 7500 tiles and keep it that way for a while. If the creeper only covered 5000 tiles, you have to remove it from 3750 tiles.
I love Tom's expanse story I think I've heard it 15 times . But also I did tell it to my dad over christmas

I find it funny that Tom goes on about how his Creeper World playthroughs are terrible and very inefficient. But he doesn't seem to do alot of the old losing in this game XD although that 8mins, oof XD
The Reclaim Is about map control. What you need to do is cover the map with your TOWERS. The ones that spread green stuff and generate/distribute energy. When you reach a certain percentage, usually between 50 and 75%, the com tower starts to warm up, and if you don't loose ground, you clear the objective.
42:00 To capture the windmill towers, it counts map percentage.
16:00 'The Expanse' is the same name as the Space Middle-East that Star Trek Enterprise went to after Space 9/11.
That show was horrifying.
One of the Buried ERNs you missed was on your starting side, near the mountain.
The other was in the NW corner of the map.
Don’t forget upgrades on the E Portal. The range upgrade plus a mortar with an ERN has a massive radius of attack.
my understanding of the reclaim objective is to just take x% of the map, and hold that for a little bit, if youve gotta reclaim 50%, and the creeper has taken at maximum 80% of the map, youve gotta take their control down to 40% of the map, and hold that for a few seconds. The more aggressive you are, the less you have to reclaim
I will echo a number of others here and say: this game is weirdly satisfying to watch. I think it might be the fluid simulation stuff with the creep/anti-creep, how it looks like there's a bit of a challenge, but it seems relatively easy to get to a stable front line and then get to stop and think about how you want to plan your attack. A little bit less of a pure tower defense kind of game and a bit more puzzly, in a good way?
I love this Video, just enjoyable to watch Tom play superchill like and hear him talk. His voice is very calming to listen to in this video.

I don't really remember why the Expanse story got brought up and expanded upon, but I loved it! I feel like that would have been the kind of weird ramble that would have been cut down and heavily edited. It's a perfect example of why these raw cuts are so great.
Pylons are like super speed towers, They spit packets and ammo to the front
Tom - you can use the create squad button with selected units to easily select. especially useful with planes
The expanse is not based on any MMO settings but follows relative closely "the Expanse" books series (first book is named leviathan wakes")

yeah i love the Expanse, it is such a great show, i think i had a tiny interest just to remeber the name of it from i dunno shorts or something, but about the same time as this vid Adam Savage went on a rant on how much he loved the depiction of space travel in that show and how near to realistic it was.
So you know the whole bit about them having to "flip and burn" either when they are running or just when at the mid way point between destinations, THIS IS HOW WE WOULD ACTUALLY SIMULATE GRAVITY on these ships, so normally they accelerate consistently applying the same forces on the ship and themselves, typically this is at 1g for earthers and particularly martian troopers because they want to be prepped to land on earth for an invasion some day...but belters cannot stand this level of gravity and will typically become sick from the magical anti grav juice they pump in when ever they do a "hard burn" also i think its cool that the effects of low gravity have not compressed their spine making them taller also earning them the name long necks lol. horrendous what the earthers will do with gravity tho yeesh.
tbh the show really takes off and each season adds a new thing and it just keeps getting better...eh there was a part in season 2 or 3 where it got really slow, but daamn it comes back hard af

Tom, surely that happened to you in the campaign? Even though that level is like - 2000 or so, it'll still climb the hill. You need mortars to cover the void.

if you had waited till you had more orbitals, you could have backed them with a singularity and conversion
that should have turned the wave gen there to anti as well, and owned half the map in an instant
Defiance was also an MMO & TV show-but they were meant to happen concurrently. Both flopped.

Man I love this game, it is a good one to just chill to. A book series that i would reccomend, that is technically Sci Fi, Is The Safehold series by David Weber. It can be a little long winded at times, but i think it is really good.
Have you read the Rosewater trilogy?
