Can you please share some ideas about applying for Dual Degree? I'm applying for Mechanical Engineering + Engineering management at USC.
In most cases you have to apply to each program and be accepted to each program. If you look at my video on my MPH application and my MCP essays in my free essay download, you can see that the essays are almost identical, but have a different framing tailored to each program. However I mention why the dual degree is important to me.
What is your opinion on writing about covid-19 in the SOP? Do you think it would be too mundane?
If it's relevant to making a strong case for you to succeed in the program, you can mention it. If it's just filler info that isn't strong, leave it out.

I'm currently applying to MPH programs, and I think my biggest setback is my SOP. I want to write a couple paragraphs about my friend, and how her life has really impacted mine, but I don't know if this is something admissions offices like to see? Thanks so much!
Consider it from the point of view of the admissions committee. They want to know a) why you care about public health and b) if you will be successful in their program. Does describing your friend help answer those questions? A common mistake I see is people talking about themselves enough and focusing too much on the issue or others. Remember to keep the spotlight on you. If it's relevant to mention your friend, you can, but it should distract from making a case about you being a good fit for the program.
