  • The HORRIFIC Afterlife Of Barbara Radziwill - Queen of Poland
    Much is known about many of the most famous English Queens in History, for example Elizabeth I. She’s well known for her defeat of the Spanish Armada, and also the fact she had a long reign in which there was a golden age. Elizabeth is also remembered for her execution of Mary Queen of Scots, however during the 1500s there were many amazing stories of influential women who ruled and were part of the European monarchies.
    During the Second World War, Vilnius itself was captured by the Nazis who established two ghettos for the large Jewish population. As they were keen on stealing wealth and art, its possible that some of Barbara’s jewellery and artefacts may have been stolen and looted by the Nazis. When her skeleton was discovered, it was then subject to a number of checks and bizarre repairs. Her skeleton was cleaned and conserved, and also then glued together by professors at a nearby university. From this they worked out that she was 5 feet 3, above average for a woman at the time, and that she had white and straight teeth, a slim body, and a narrow face. It was noted, that she also had a number of strange abnormalities.
    Barbara Radziwill’s remains were subject to a significant amount of tampering and experimentation, and also possible looting. However her life and death inspired many paintings and legends, and many have regarded her relationship with the Prince and King as a great love story.

    The death of Barbara Radziwiłł has an after story that links to that of Elizabeth I of England. You might have noticed that, in contemporary portraits of the Polish Queen and Grand Duchess of Lithuania, Barbara wears an extraordinary amount of pearls. Her collection of pearls - in terms of quality and amount - was in fact renowned in Europe. To such an extent that, when Barbara died, Elizabeth I - who also had a great passion for pearls - made considerable efforts to purchase Barbara's jewels.

      Very interesting to hear Elizabeth was desirous of something another woman had. Perfectly normal, of course, but it somewhat upsets the image I have of Gloriana.

      @@peepindis well, your comment calls to mind the quote attrubuted to Elizabeth I upon hearing that Mary, Queen of Scots, had given birth: 'The Queen of Scots is lighter of a fair son but I am barren stock'. So, perhaps Elizabeth I was desirous of something another woman possessed on more occasions than one supposed.

      @@jerzykierkuc-bielinski5186 I can feel the pain of that statement in my bones. ♡ She was a person after all. It's both comforting and rattling to hear the humanity in the words of the famous monuments in the frames. Thanks for both your posts.

      @@banjoist123 it's been already mentioned that Nazis stole all her remaining jewellery during world war 2. It would be interesting to make a video about pan Twadowski, the wizard who supposedly brought back queen Barbara Radziwill which was deceased and made her appear as if she was still alive

      Every departed person needs respect, in burial, in all things, as the departed is separated in the flesh, yet the soul is preserved. Knoweth not that your bodies are a temple, it is Holy and pure, it only accepts Holy things, for ye are the salts of the earth, what is salt when the salt has lost its savor? If it gold and silver, it shall stumble and wither, for all foundations are none of those, yet truth is aboundeth in all places for it is preserved.

    Great video! It's nice to see something about my favourite Queen from my country! 😍💜💜💜
    Just one correction - when Sigismund August met and later married Barbara, he was already king. He was co-ruler alongside his (still living) father. NOT Prince and "future king". He was co-king.

    I hate to sound superficial and irrelevant, but boy do I prefer the look of her fashion! Makes the Tudor royal fashion seem ridiculous with their ruffs and farthingales….but she looked sleek and practical, almost in a jeweled coat of armor! 😍

    • @KellyfromMemphis
      @KellyfromMemphis 2 роки тому +7

      Found out why…reading a few articles. Basically Poland, Lithuania, Hungry, and the rest were constantly at war. Both with each other and the Ottoman Empire. So those ruffs around the necks, and those silly diapers over tights the men war were impractical during actual combat. And were seen for the silly peacocks of the fashionable Western European men. I happen to agree. At one point, the cod pieces got so large as to try and make them seem more masculine! So the women’s fashion seemed to reflect practicality and modesty…no open décolletage with pearls stands disappearing around the breasts, with hair in the front showing (see Anne Boleyn’s portrait for example) for them….I think the look is VERY attractive in comparison.

    It may be worth mentioning that the Parliament (Sejm) was opposed to the marriage. King Sigismund Augustus II morgantic marriage with the woman of no royal blood may have given too much privilege to her family and antagonize other rich and powerful families and offend Catholic allegiances with the Habsburg dynasty.
    However, the Kong thretened with what Henry the VIII did - break off from Church.
    He won and married his love.
    However, eventually he died with no male heir, even though a marriage with the Habsburg choice followed.

    My favourite story about Poland was the monarchs and their court in the later 16th century and seventeenth, when there were some calls regarding their stance on religion and 'orthodoxy' versus toleration.
    It was finally decided on toleration " After all, we don't want things to get as bad as...England!!"

    You can see her traditional hair scarf hiding all of her hair and going around her face. If you google traditional Belarusian clothes, you will see exactly the same head scarfs made of flax, going around the face under the chin.

    Barbara was the Queen of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It was a conglomerate state composed of two huge parts, maybe twice if not thrice larger than the modern Poland, including the lands of Belarus and Ukraine and even some of the modern Russia. Barbara was lithuanian by origin. However, that "lithuanian" is not quite the same as modern Lithuania. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania included huge territory from the Baltic to the Black sea, bordering on Russia and Poland. About 20 years after she died the two states joint into Rzechpospolita, again, much larger than modern Poland, occupying the territories between two seas and even including Smolensk and some other cities of Russia. The love between Barbara and the Polish King Zhygimont August was a true courtly love of the medieval time. He fell in love with her soo much he could not console himself after her tragic premature death, some say of poison, some say of desease (you can read about it in detail). Zhygimont nearly turned mad and spent days trying to conjure the spirit of Barbara. Read it, their story is very fascinating. And not much people nowdays know the history of the greatest states that existed in Europe, while it is full of deeds of honour and has its noble lore.

    • @pendragonsxskywalkers9518
      @pendragonsxskywalkers9518 2 роки тому +7

      "Cheating"? There's no proof she cheated any of her husbands! Yes, there's rumors she had few affairs between her marriages, but she was free back then, so it wouldn't be cheating.
      Neverthlesss, her ilness and death were terrible, so indeed she was "poor". In one moment she was happy and in love, the second, she was dying painful death. No one deserves that - especially she wasn't cruel ruler or murderer. She was just herself and tried to be happy. There's nothing wrong with that.
