Yes golf mk3 diesel estate glow plug relay , about 3 years ago the flow plug relay failed on me. Went to a reputable parts supplier euro car parts in England. Bought new relay, the dam thing stayed on sucked the power out if the battery and then melted the dam relay board. In the end got a second hand relay and new relay/fuse board. Expensive exercise. 😮 Chinese / jap crap, it could have caused a fire, or finished Mt old car off.
Oh yes and an alternator I bought from china to replace the noisey supposedly refurbished one , that lasted just over 12 months. Does anyone make anything that's any good these days?.
All vw ignition switches don't last forever they aren't very hard wearing. My car kept cutting out randomly 😒 took me two weeks of thinking to solve that problem😂. Poor design and cheap shite
Lord Duckman, you are the BOMB! You zip in and out of electrical problems with ease, it seems. Old vehicles like this one that hand many hands into it are always nasty to fix. All you can do is take one thing at a time to fix, whatever it is. I admire your knowledge man! When ever I striped an old VW, I would save every usable part for later rebuilds.
Thanks man! Electrical is my specialty! I have a deep history of this kind of stuff, it translated well when I moved from computers/IT back into the VW world. Thanks so much once again! More fun to come!

Lord Duckman, you may have thought of by now, but when you put the harness in the steering wheel, there were wires that were burnt. I'm eondering if those are the wires for the wiper blades, and they somehow worked for a moment, then shut off. Also, did you check the 4way switch after getting the standard blinker switch to work? Not sure how connected they are, I'm just a thinking man, with much to learn, and more to know Rock on Sir. Have a great week and thank you for your teachings to those of us that do not have anyone else around on a regular basis to help work on our VWs. I have learned much from you, while you are showing us how to do the work, in real time. Lord Dino.
Thanks! But Its not at all what you'd expect! It was a much simpler solution. Next video maybe tomorrow, or Thursday. Besides, it was a ground wire that was scorched, but it was intact. The only reason I let it be. 😁👍🦆💩

Why is the ignition switch on the steering column & not on the Dash faceplate next to the emergency switch ? & the current ignition switch looks to be a mid 70's model.
Nah... well talk about it on next video... I actually found the problem tonight, and its close to that area, but what you're looking at there is the horn wire, previous owner bypassed it with its own button.
You got a loose connector in tha especific wire just make tide with a small screwdriver and some WD40 loose connections cause overheating@@DuckmanCycles
Consider all that electrical work as practice for assembling the wiring harness on Elenor and Gregory! Work On Gregory! Don't treat him like a Red Body Step Child Type 2...
Thanks, Eleanore with 3 Es.... and I talked about both of those cars recently and what is going on with them and what is going in my life. I appreciate the interest, though.
It's the small fixes that make the biggest difference. Funny thing, my fastback has duel carbs and starts up and idles great. My super beetle also has duel carbs. I have to warm it up with my foot on the gas until it's warm to get it yo idle. Neither one has chokes. Any ideas? Great fixes Lord Duckman 🦆. Noel 👍
If all things are the same, then I would bet the low speed fuel mixture is set richer on your Fastback, either that or timing is different, possibly dirty carbs, vacuum leak, or maladjusted valves. When I first put the dual carbs on my Fastback, it started up real easy because it was too rich on the low speed, almost like being choked. When it got warm it doesn't need all that extra fuel though, I could smell it in the exhaust.
😩👉 This switch can also have a short circuit that will cause the ignition fuse to get hot 🔥 - other symptoms are ignition going off when lights are on ( including brake and back-up lights )
Ghost of owners past, perhaps.... lol! But its good to move the coil to a less used fuse... that wire is the one that has a tendency burn up the rest of the harness for not being protected. #7 is often an unassigned fuse... which would be a good spot for the coil, but the headlights shouldnt be there.... but that all depends on what year your car is.
Nah man. Missing my key. Lost it. I can’t move it to the accessory position. Missing missing. Didn’t think there was another word for it. Not broken. Legit. Lost/missing. Not being a dick. Just thought I’d keep it simple. Like I don’t have it. I need to replace the tumbler. But can’t get it to come out without busting the column. Which I don’t want to do. Thanks in advance
Ahhh that makes more sense. I've gotten in behind the column lock pin with a screwdriver before and pried it out of the way... it's a little bit fussy but it is possible. I think I demonstrated that one of my other ignition lock replacement videos in the last year. That car also had a lost key. Once you get out the entire steering lock ignition assembly, you will have to drill a small hole in it to release the tumbler. Once that's done, even without the key you should be able to pull the tumbler out gently if you pry it apart with a screwdriver or some other spudger.
@@ranchero302me well he did ask when it was starting, and it did start a long time ago.... but none of that is what the subject of this video was even about so LOL

Japanese stuff always makes more sense to me, the Germans like to take weird shortcuts... well specifically Bosch, as they were the ones that made a lot of wiring harnesses for German motorcycles and cars. This is especially true when they add an accessory, instead of giving its own circuit, they piggyback off of something else that's in the vicinity. Volkswagen backup lights hopping off the coil is one such good example, lol
