Hi guys. I was born in Nyack NY, roughly 50 miles south of Kingston. The Hudson River underwent an extensive cleanup in the 70's and now is much better for everyone. Fishing and tourism are back strong. Except for the cost of living, I really like that area. Now, my wife and I live in the South. Thanks for informing us that Kingston used to be the state capital. Terrific video!
Moved to North Carolina but came from Kingston. Your comment on Savona's was right on. You should have eaten at Mariners Harbor....down the hill. Hopefully, you drove around town and saw the uptown area. Enjoy your Vlog!!
If you come back you must check out uptown, the Historic District. Its just amazing and also has the only original intersection left in the United States (called the 4 corners). I grew up in the Ponchockie section of Kingston (which is down the road from where you filmed) but moved to the Historic district in my 20's. We might not be a bustling city but there is so much history here that theres always something new to see and explore. And we're so close to everything 1hr south of Albany and 2hrs North of Manhattan that you can take a day trip anywhere.
I live 15 minutes away from kingston. It’s definitely not what it used to be but I love going there. I didn’t know that they reenact the burning. I will definitely have to check it out.
That inlet thing is the Roundout Creek. I lived in the Hudson Valley for 12yrs while working for IBM. You should checkout Woodstock, the town. Also hike Slide Mountain. Lake Miniwaska, New Paltz. etc... It is a beautiful area. The problem is, winters suck and taxes are very high.
Just absolutely loves towns with history. Have yall been to Saint Augustine in Florida yet? One of our favorite places. Also the place where we got engaged back in 2007!!!
We haven't yet! Definitely on our list for when we return to Florida. Love that you got engaged there! We got in engaged in Miami, so we're Florida twins lol.
Hey you guys, how are you? Great video as always !! I am surprised you didn't travel a little further south and check out NYC? But maybe you did, or have in a previous trip? I think there's an RV PARK on or near the Statue of Liberty (but I think it's more like a parking lot!!). But you can take the ferry over to NYC - lots to do there!! Broadway plays, great restaurants, Bronx Zoo (fabulous), Museums (especially the museum of Natural History for me). You were a mere 70 miles due north of me while you were in Kingston - I'm just over the NJ state line !! Just curious if you planned out more of this trip yet? Well, best to you both and keep these great videos coming !!! Safe and healthy travels always !!
Hi, Bruce! We went to NYC for a quick weekend trip. Rae's college friend got married in the city in June. We left the RV a few hours away and drove in because the RV parks near the city were outrageous! I think that Statue of Liberty one was over $80 a night and you're right, it was just a parking lot lol. We have our route on the bottom of our website if you want to check that out 😊www.getawaycouple.com
Thanks for the inspiration for the past year guys! We love your videos! You and a couple of other vloggers have encouraged us to start our own UA-cam channel. We hope you follow us along on our journey😁
America's history is all around us! Thanks for sharing! We will be heading up to TN tomorrow and on to Indiana by the end of the month for some work on the fiver! Safe travels!
I used to drive 3 hours down from the Albany area to Kingston to give blood at the NY blood bank. We never really had a chance to explore as I was too tired afterwards. Wish we could have after seeing your video.
I am originally from the Hudson river valley. It's a beautiful area. I've been all over the state. You should check out Katerskill falls in the catskills and definitely the finger lakes area..wineries everywhere and it is beautiful!
Saw you guys fliming this in my hometown of kingston did not want to bother you well you were doing this. When you come back you should check out the uptown area and let me know i can show you around.
Another great video. Rae, don't be to homesick for the West coast. Everything out here is on fire. We just had to cancel out trip to the mountains because the air quality is so bad. I haven't been out of the house in 4 days. I would love to just jump in the camper and leave, but I think I would die from the smoke try to load it up. Enjoy the greenery of the East coast.
I'm so sorry you're going through that! Every time I see the fires in the news my heart breaks. We dealt with the fires every year but it's so sad to see them get worse and worse. Stay safe and we hope they get them out soon ❤
The Hudson is more like fjord than a river by Kingston. It has some wicked tides. I use to sail on it. Also, there are tons of fish in the river because you should not eat any of it because GE polluted it with PCBs from their factory near Albany. The PCBs are in the sediments. The only fish safe to eat are migratory fish, like sturgeon. My family is from the area. Actually my great great great grandfather was Henry Wisner who represented NY in the first continental congress. In the 80's half of one percent of the USA's GDP shipped out of the IBM plant in Kingston. They tested and shipped mainframes in Kingston. Now, the Kingston site is gone. We have not been back in 10yrs. It was a pretty depressed area. It is good to see the Strand, the water front area, has held up well.
Wow, thanks for sharing all of that. Didn't know that history. That's super unfortunately about GE polluting the water and really sad for the town. They seem to be doing okay now, but again, we were only in the touristy area.
Have you guys ever done any camping in Michigan? Michigan has a lot of beautiful campgrounds and it would be awesome to run into you guys at a local site. :) Safe travels!
We have not! The closest we'll be getting to Michigan is the Grand Design Indiana Rally in two weeks. Definitely want to make it there at some point! Just have to hurry back to New York for a conference we're attending after the rally.
Hi there! Thanks so much. We're currently in Pulaski, NY heading to the Grand Design rally in Indiana. We will not be in Canada (although we did go to Niagara Falls last weekend) but hopefully will be going through Canada next year!
i live in kingston and its not how it used to be. its history is great, but its corrupt now. not many people are happy living here and a lot of people move out as they get older
My o My...you’re in Kingston! I am born & raised in NYC (still live here too ;)! I think its so cool that you were recognized there! Thank you so much! We try to share what we're learning from the towns so we're glad to hear you enjoy it!
I live 15 minutes away from kingston. It’s definitely not what it used to be but I love going there. I didn’t know that they reenact the burning. I will definitely have to check it out.
Where is a great place to live in kingston am planning on moving soon?
Great video. We live in the Kingston area and spent the day cruising the Rondout Creek and river today with friends from North Dakota.

Boy you are not kidding the sky has been so brown the sun doesn't even shine thru.
