The best I've watched so far! Because he's the only one who did not use any commercial lathe to create the parts for his DIY lathe. just a welder, drill, grinder, hacksaw... common garage tools for most people. In addition he really uses mostly scrap material, like brake shoes!

Parabéns por ter construído um torno com ferramentas convencionais. Achei maravilhoso. O único problema é a castanha que é difícil de centralizar. Acho que você vai ter de comprar uma feita pela fábrica.

From a type of salvage yard, I worked as manual labor for about 2 days for a scrap South Bend lathe 9 inch C model as payment instead of wages. I think the Serial number matches to 1935 manufacture. I cleaned every function and took note it came with no drive motor, no tool holder, and typical minor wear.
Now functional, I will never complain as to quite any tool deficit, any component I find needed as I have seen a fitter execute every functional domain of the engine lathe. When I return to my shop, I
will hang a hacksaw just above the workings below. That truly, seems
to be with a welder and some drill bits....all that is needed hence forth.
And determined skill. Regards and admiring the nicely painted bits, working. M.

Truly impressive. Some of these other videos of lathe construction claim to be homemade but there not. Parts of the structure or frame are already made, and there using another lathe to fabricate various parts. Not yours. While the video progressed rather rapidly I didn't see another lathe and the only that was prefabricated were standard screws and bolts. If you had gone into Opthalmology you'd probably would have been doing eye surgery with a pen knife. Every last bit of it is made from scratch. My hats off to you young man. 👍

Odlično prikazano, jednostavno i lepo uradjeno. Jedino je nepromišljeno ono osnovno, glavni klizači su tanki, šipke. Zato vibrira pri radu. Ali to se da izmeniti. Čestitam.

An excellent design, backed up with skillful execution. I particularly liked your tool holder.
There's a lathe construction video making the rounds, (it was even linked on a general interest maker site), that had me SMH on various details of how they claim some parts were fabricated.
Yours is clearly 100% legit, no question in my mind about any part of it. Bravo!
    I am going to subscribe.

A lot of work. The cartridge and the headstock are well made. But the guide rods are too weak. In addition, with such a high height of the centers, the structure will not be strong.

A for effort, for sure. He kept going until he made it work. I think he will appreciate it more, learning what purpose each part plays give him a few steps ahead of those who can by it ready-made. A true machinist.
