As a 70’s kid hooning about on my Suzuki AP50 a couple of old boys in our village had a few old British bikes, we would dismiss them as old and dead beat bikes, Ironic how looking at them running now makes me feel alive again. 😊
AP50's were superb bikes, I'm 53 now but when I was 14 a friend of mine had one and we used to ride on the local common and it was so quick for a 50cc bike, many a happy time riding it!.
Makes me wonder why manufacturers stuck with push rods for so long. Cheaper? Maybe. But as with all things, the more it's adopted, the more the technology improves, the cheaper it becomes
Well the OHC Velocette engine cost almost 3 x as much to produce as the mss The thing is back then with the ignition systems and materials available your ability to rev was limited A push rod engine can be destined rev to around 10k rpm way more than was possible in the 20s now matter you used OHC has some efficiency advantages but unless it’s for competition use they aren’t worth the extra cost The same was true of 4V heads again popular in the 20s
Long stroke push rod engines have plenty of lowdown torque, meaning they are easier to live with in 90% of riding conditions, also the big British twins were quick off the mark from a standing start by the time multiple cylinder OHC engines got going the big push rod twins would be long gone, they were lighter with a narrower profile. And then if that's not enough there is superior fuel economy to consider
I'm no mechanic, but compared to a lot of bikes around today, that looks like it would be a cinch to work on. Lovely.
I would definitely think so 😂

That’s getting old for you

This is my ideal bike for pottering around the Yorkshire Dales. 😊
If you have a ton of cash it is 😂
Beautiful bike. Sounded great. How I love old iron. Thanks for sharing. Cheers guys
Very pretty isn’t it
A beauty I didn't know existed. Always something new to learn about. More of these lesser known bikes, please.
Just thought we would put it in
Really just because it looked and sounded so dam nice
Nice bike...and nice '58 Buick in the background! 😊
There is car in shot
I love to see a proper motorcycle with all its plumbing on display.
There is something about it
Just beautiful piece of engineering, if I had one it would live in the living just so I could admire it.
I think I would too 😂
Riding old bikes isn't an activity, it's an event 😂!
True but for me every time I ride any bike I get a sense of occasion that you simply never get from a car
