Keep doin what you do!...We need more people that can find the good parts of tha city and focus more on that...if you look hard..you can find negatives in any city...so keep them vids comin'
I can agree with the previous person's comment. I am a gary native and when I left it I felt like I was escaping for my life. It was the best decision I ever made. Whenever I hear from my family there, it's always about someone who ain't getting along or is on drugs, locked up, or dead. It's a real drag
HI from Russia!!! I was in Gary last summer! White Russian girl... alone! And I was scared with that places but I was thinking about Michael and it was not so scary ))) Thanks so much to the guys who helped me to find the Jacksons' house!!! Hope to visit Gary this summer. Will you be my guide? Thank you for the video!
True true, Gary like any town, has problems, but it definitely has shining spots such as the South Shore Line and RailCats Stadium. I can definitely see Gary becoming the Chicago of Indiana one of these days.
It is because Gary was and still is a steel town. Once prices overseas were more competitive the steel mills moved out. Less mills = less jobs = more poverty = more crime, and in the process half the population left so this is the reason gary is the way it is today
Like travel agents selling tickets on the Titanic, even as seawater hits the upper decks. You can all argue about why it's messed up. But don't tell me it isn't a disaster area.
@benjamin1977man Go for it you will not make though the spring or Summer. And hey if you do cook out remember Chiken and Ribs man that it with some Watermelon on the side.
i want to buy a house in Gary ...I love gary and im white ...do you think I would be safe if i bought like a tax house or something ..not in a really bad area but a place that would be really cheap..????
gary lost money because us steel outsourced its jobs and laid off its workers in the 1970s. people lost their jobs so they moved to where they could find them. when richard daley tore down the projects in chicago, all the poor people moved to gary and the surronding area. the crime went up, so all of the affluent people of gary left as well. both of my parents grew up in gary and they left because of the crime and to find jobs
LOL @ that song! Gary is NOT all that. I was born and raised in Gary, and I know Gary USED to be a great city, but around the time I graduated, it started to go downhill.
@bigghead5050 What utter rubbish. I am white and a frequent visitor to Gary. The people, white, black, whatever, are some of the friendliest and warm hearted that I have encountered in Indiana. It's true that Gary has problems with crime and has suffered years of under-investment, corruption, abandonment and mismanagement, but it is a total and unsupported generalization to say that all residents are unfriendly and racist. It just is not true.
@1996mz I live just south of there for 20 years and worked in East Chicago so don't tell me. There was a billboard on Braodway southbond right before the exit to I-80/94 that read" Ther Last One Out of Gary Please Turn the Lights OFF!' This was in1980. So yes it is verry true. There is a film here on "You Tube" about Gary in 50's and 60's watch and then tell me that is not true. In the film there are white people everywhere. The whites left and now look at it.
How come everybody promoting Gary in these comments has to link it with Christianity? Don't thank God for the comeback of Gary -- thank the hard work of its citizens, who deserve credit for helping such a troubled community. And to the cynics: yeah, Gary's got huge problems, but that doesn't mean it's worth bulldozing or anything. Also, this song is a blatant (and probably deliberate) rip-off of the song "Gary, Indiana" from "The Music Man."
Gary aint what it use to be and folks that are still there better rush to get the hell out of there because Gary is not just a ghost town anymore; it's also a toxic waste dump. Why do you think big business left and let it die? They knew it was becoming to toxic to have to indulge.
@arthurswchultz umm those arent facts y dont u go to gary and check it out and ask someone about it...but u r intitled to your opinon so go ahead talk about it idc!!
Gee, no shots of vacant lots surrounded by broken concrete sidewalks and filled with brush and trees. No shots of the disintegrating Methodist church on Washington St, or the crumbling Palace Theater on Broadway, or even the decaying old R.R. Station, to say nothong of the ruins of the Memorial Auditorium. No shots of burned out houses in what used to be lovely neighborhoods. Hint: propaganda like this only works on people who really know nothing of the subject.
lol. the stock market crash led to gary's decline. That's too funny. Lemme ask. What stocks did the city invest in? What city buys stock shares? What city sells stock to residents? No city does that. My mother moved from Gary back in the 70s to Merrillville. She remembers so many of her friends moved to Mville too. People left, blacks from chicago moved in, crime went up, city got dangerous, more people left. Sorry, but in white dominant communities, people don't get killed every day. its a fact
i just wanna say....i'm from around there and more than half of those pictures are of hammond, indiana. that is NOT a good representation of Gary...where's the projects? the trailer parks? the caution tape? the broken windows? the dead bodies?....just sayin. (:
Well all I can say is when a video designed to make a place look good doesnt. That place has to be really bad. In this video it looked Gheto to me so if they showed all the good I can only wonder what they didnt show.

That is a concise or maybe too concise video with a nice original song. I wish the creators of this work all the success they deserve.
Right On, Will! Much love from, The Thinker. Peace

Amen to dat Brotha!
0:41 LOL. this sounds like an 80s tv show intro
I miss gary so much. No matter how torn up sum parts of it may look, thats still my home town.
Keep doin what you do!...We need more people that can find the good parts of tha city and focus more on that...if you look hard..you can find negatives in any city...so keep them vids comin'

@17plasticman Greatness!
True true, Gary like any town, has problems, but it definitely has shining spots such as the South Shore Line and RailCats Stadium. I can definitely see Gary becoming the Chicago of Indiana one of these days.
I like the line "Gary has lots of things to do". Like ducking from gunfire or watching a house down the street burn down!
Lol i remember learning this song in 2nd or 3rd grade.
It is because Gary was and still is a steel town. Once prices overseas were more competitive the steel mills moved out. Less mills = less jobs = more poverty = more crime, and in the process half the population left so this is the reason gary is the way it is today
Just this evening I was driving down Broadway in Gary and I pulled my epiglottis. OUCH! I like turtles.
Wow,this video makes me want to move here.I was really moved by this. How is the school system here?
Lmao. I'll be taking my next vacation to Gary!
I was just there yesterday and didn't have any problems getting around. Wasn't as scary as everyone said it would be.
I WANT LIVE IN GARY,,,ITALY
You're right about the hard work of the citizens, but God made it all possible.
Like travel agents selling tickets on the Titanic, even as seawater hits the upper decks.
You can all argue about why it's messed up. But don't tell me it isn't a disaster area.
Exactly :>) corporate greed and corruption has run amuck and is the true blame hear.
yea i live in portage right next to Gary and the Railcats stadium is the only nice part haha
@benjamin1977man Go for it you will not make though the spring or Summer. And hey if you do cook out remember Chiken and Ribs man that it with some Watermelon on the side.
