Fond memories of Dave Simmons previously at Aston Villa. He came from Arsenal and scored 5 vital goals in 9 games to avoid relegation to the Third in 1968/9. Following season, he was sent off in a reserve team game and struggled to get back into the first team. Such a pity as we couldn't buy a goal or a win and were stuck in the bottom two for most of the season. Even though we took it to the final match, this time we did go down in 1970.
I was 16 regular U's suppoter at the Layer Rd end we went on to beat Man Utd in the League Cup what times I really enjoyed delivering the "Green un" football paper that night many happy customers
Biggest Cup shock ever. I couldn't believe it. Leeds United? Can't be right. 4th Div too & the Leeds' side were always full strength back then. The Ref obviously had been got at..
@@tomthomas9708it's still Leeds & that 15 players could play anyone. They just didn't cope there & full marks to Colchester who weren't frightened. And the Curse!
+suffern63 completely agree with you. The top 4 only take its seriously once out of the champions league. The next 3 or 4 are trying to get into the CL so they don't take it seriously. The bottom 6 or 7 are only interested in staying in the premier league which leaves 4 or 5 in the middle who by and large aren't good enough to beat the B team of the top 4 anyway... Same rules for the championship clubs play weakened teams because they want promotion. And no endless stupid trailers on the BBC can save this once great competition, They ONLY thing that can is a champions league place for the winners...
Absolutely, 1971 Leeds Utd were at their magnificence, once Revie got Alan Clarke, that was Don's last Jigsaw piece, with either Mick Bates or Terry Yorath at Reserve. That team of 13 players played like that for 4yrs. Eddie Gray's brother Frank & Jordan and McQueen were added come 1974, oh & David Hunter replaced Sprake in goal. It's still shocks me, come 4.45pm results on the teleprinter I just was agog, can't be surely, 4th Division, but that WAS the magic of the FA Cup.
Any chance you can re upload this without ticking the youtube 'fix it' button...that is waht has caused the captions to whizz around all over the screen....
