Happy were those days when you could replace your battery in a few seconds.
I seriously miss my galaxy s5 but too old fashioned to risk using in todays time. The Nokia Lumia 1020 which I loved and everyone raved about with all Microsoft phones can still be sold to you second hand but deliberately Microsoft made the older Nokias useless by seeing only about 20 percent of your Facebook or internet or typing page. Made mistake of getting one second hand to replace the old one I had with smashed screen but 41mp camera was like the best ever made amazing phones once sold expensive but they upgrade you to useless software to force you to buy a new phone

Do they want us to NOT be able to shut phone off and not be able to remove battery so they can gather data while I sleep to sell and send me ads🤔🤔🤔

I like how they say they started doing this no removable battery to help save space so they can make phones thinner for customers and that they could design batteries in different shapes to help with making them thinner. lol looks like a regular rectangle battery to me. they just want you to buy more phone's instead of replacing batteries. I hate corporate greed.

John s - Bingo! Thatb really chaps me. I was about to buy a Galaxy 9 but hit the breaks when I heard the battery is not removable. I am waiting to see if they get it consumers want a removable battery. Maybe Samsung Galaxy 10, 11, or 12?
I don't worry much about the water proof part.
It's done so your phone is garbage faster. I had my s5 for 3 years and 5 batteries for it. 3 crapped out but the phone worked fine still. NOW with the new phones, as soon as the battery is done, so is your.phone
Xyrik That's a joke statement. I have the older Galaxy Note 4 since it first came out, been through pouring rain and snow and still works like brand new. All I had to do was change the battery one time.
Really glad that I saw this video first, before cracking open my phone. No way I feel comfortable attempting this. I hate how complicated they made this battery replacement. Props to anyone that has the skill to do this. I sure don't.
Did a battery replacement on old tablet, but this is a whole level more complicated!
Before doing this I advice you to disassemble an old radio or something like that. When you feel comfortable give this tutorial a shot
Everyone starts somewhere. It's really not that hard. The longest step for me was attaching new glue templates.
I just did my battery, and happy to say its all working. Had a scare with the fingerprint reader module, but after rebooting phone this now works and the phone is like new now! :)
It's a very informative video. I've had an S9 for almost 4 years, and it works fine. Battery is still very strong, but I'll save video just in case. It's ridiculous phone manufacturers make things so hard. The obviously want you to get a new one every couple years. Case in point, a little over a week ago I went to store I where I bought phone, and asked about a moisture warning(likely from rain) in my charging receptacle.The warning had cleared by time store opened, but I talked with him anyway. He was very informative, but of course, he tried to sell me on a promotion of a "free" replacement phone of equal value($800 value) in exchange for old phone. Yes, "free" after about paying around $80 in tax and paying an activation fee. The old phone is charging fine, and I bought a wireless charger just in case of future problems. I'll save video, but I hope I won't have to change battery.
I just learned current phones are tightly sealed to make them "waterproof." I'd rather be able to change battery quickly than have a "waterproof" phone. My "waterproof" phone got a moisture warning which I mentioned earlier
I had no idea how complicated changing the battery in my mobile was going to be. Thank goodness I found this tutorial on UA-cam. Thanks to the excellent instructions given I was able to perform this extremely difficult task without too much effort. Thank you so much for all your help.
Finally I can use that electronic hot plate I got lying around at home.

THANK YOU very much for producing this video! IT made it possible for me to change my battery. And I did crack the back cover of my phone, but it still works and I used an Otto Box protector so the cracks are not even visible. You do have to heat the phone up A LOT, much more than I thought was OK, in order to get the adhesive soft enough. The phone had to be too hot to touch in order for the glue to melt. That's why you see the guy in the video wearing a cloth glove on one hand. He knows how hot it is. :-)
Good video, was able to replace my battery using my hairdryer. Tip though: Make sure you sufficiently melt the glue as you go round because if you use your plectrum thing to work your way round too quickly without properly melting the adhesive you will crack the back of your phone... yes I speak from experience.
I did it! With your help! I got a CPB mini pad and axGear metal spudge along with the guitar picks and small philips kit. Only thing I want to suggest is if you're going to replace the back cover then plug the finger print scanner flex cable 5:40 in first when re-installing then put the back on to it, way easier to plug it in.
Hi. I just wanted to say that I watched this video three or four times, and then had it on (paused in between parts) while I replaced the power cell in my own S9. Thank you so much for this, I don't think I couldn't have done it without actual instructions.
So sad Samsung still have this design making battery change an ordeal for the layman.

Good tutorial, thanks! Instead of using a heat gun, put almost boiling water into a ziplock and just put the phone on it for a while. It can't get too hot then. Also, at the end put the phone back on the hot bag to make the glue more sticky and get a better seal.

This is utterly ridiculous! Why can't they make it like normal phones where you just snap off the back cover, take out the old battery and pop in the new one? I've got 4 spare batteries and it takes me 30 seconds to swap my phone's battery. I'll NEVER buy a phone like this that makes it so difficult to change out your battery! Lithium-ion batteries degrade and should be replaced each year. This phone just isn't practical.
They Can. They won't because they need the battery to degrade so that you will be forced to buy a new phone in about 18 months. They pitch waterproofing as the reason for sealed batteries but it is really all about $$$. Planned obsolescence.
Cellphone Fiend - Consumers then need to fight back. Do NOT buy any phone with a sealed battery.
tanzanable basically almost all modern phones which are waterproof have this issue now. Smartphone batteries are horrible after 2 years of heavy use. Some people say to not charge more than 50% to keep the battery healthy which is ridiculous. No one is gonna constantly looking at a phones charging state.

Ibrahim Alzandani - I'd gladly give up the waterproof feature! I don't care about waterproof because I'm careful and never take my device anywhere near water. Drop the waterproof and give us back our replaceable batteries!!

Problem is.. even if I totally wipe my S5 it's slow again within a week..Samsung have definitely fucked with the O.S. to make SURE you have to upgrade..hence my shitty S9 ..

I use to think this was complicated like everyone else. Once you do it, its actually really really simple. the hard part is getting the back glass off without breaking it.

If ya in a, rush just order a new battery with replacement back and go ham on it
just lazy as heck that they can't put it together with screws and a good rubber gasket. For ~800 bucks you get a glued together piece of planned obsolescence.

I think you're correct about two things. First, this gentleman posted a helpful video and I also thank him and second, the bottom piece with the speaker (and the screws holding that section) didn't need to be removed to replace the battery. I've replaced the battery on three different S9s and haven't ever needed to remove the bottom piece or the screws that hold that section
Whenever I've replaced a battery on a Galaxy S9, I've only removed the top portion. I'm not sure what the reasoning would be to remove the bottom piece. I've replaced the battery on three S9s and haven't ever removed that bottom piece. This tech obviously knows what he's doing so there must be a reason he recommends it...but as I amateur techie, I'm clueless!
My curiosity was piqued though so I searched for additional tutorials on UA-cam, but I couldn't find any additional information so perhaps it's a personal preference.
Another thing I'm curious about...he said to remove 15 screws and either there are only 14 screws, or I'm missing a screw (or I have a screw loose - which is a definite possibility in my case!!).

so you dont need to re-heat up the adhesive after putting it all back together? to like make it all stick back together strongly?
what about the adhesive? do you heat the phone again to work? add more adhesive? or does it just re glue on its own?
This is more complicated than removing a brain mass.
If this is too complicated for you I can't imagine your work ethic.

If every time you have to go to bathroom, you will have to open up 4 combination lock, solve 5 puzzle, and then do 6 stunt jump and hold your breath for 2 minutes and swim across a under water tunnel, I would say it is complicated. But if you do that to steal an art work worth 50 million dollars, I will say it's a walk in a park. Got it?
This is very easy to do. It just takes a little bit of common sense, which is difficult to find these days no matter where you look.

This video was great thank you very much it helped me change my S9 phone just now. One suggestion though at 3:58 not need to remove laud speakers to remove the battery as the battery seems to come off with load speakers on so one step less.
Wouldve been nice to know that underneath the battery where you have to pry is some delicate copper foil that is part of the screen... guess that's what i get for clicking the 7 minute vid. Not blaming you ofc but I barely touched it, and now there is a white line on my screen. wish your video mentioned it

Looks a lot easier than the iphone 6s. I did that and it had so many connections! The S9 has like 3 and 15 screws.

Any recommendations for what to do when the glue won't release? No amount of heating [Used a gun and hot plate] has helped. Can't get any separation gap using suction cup, no chance of getting a pic in at all. ☹

Great vid, apart from my S9 does not have its fingerprint cable attached to the back case. Also the logic board cover would not come out until i removed the camera lens cover which exposed another hidden screw that needed to be removed before the logic cover could be removed.
I'm not sure why mine is a bit different as it is a Samsung S9 not a + but maybe because it from the UK. Thought I would post this as it might help someone out if they have the same problem. :)

due to the large otterbox case i use, i cant/dont use the fingerprint scanner, and i also dont use wireless charging so thats two less things to worry about! (aka if i break them i dont mind as long as it doesnt mess with the rest of the phone, which i don't think should happen) 😄
🌺🌼🌺🌼🌺 My charger has been given me grief for ages, now it barely works. I have to do all sorts of things to get that "lightning" sign to show, and then once the phone is laid down it stops charging. What do you suggest? I have manouvered the charger loads of time, each time I'm gentle so as not to damage it.
Late reply, but either look into getting a new charging port replacement, new charger or if your phone is able to, use wireless charging.
make a video about sealing the phone back up so it's still waterproof if possible

I'm glad I saw this first. I was considering buying this phone. Didn't know the S9 was designed not to accommodate battery replacement by the consumer, because of the waterproof feature. Got to pass on this phone, as I like the convenience of snapping the back off a phone to swap batteries and micro SD cards in and out without a production hack like this. All the new ones are like this. They want the phone to die in a year and a half so you'll have to buy a new one

I think if you reheat the phone again when you putback the cover , that will make soft again the glue, and when you give presure to the panel will stick again to the glue.

I got a S9 stuck in boot loop (initialize update failed),after a recent Odin patch flash and cant force power it off or get to factory reset. Any ideas? .greatly appreciate any help.
Get the official odin, and your samsung firmware from sammobile. Extract your firmware, then flash the firmware to your phone.

Well this looks the easiest of phones I've owned to replace that battery. Some you have to go through the whole damn thing like you were replacing the screen.

The greedy phone makers are doing their level best to get people to ditch their perfectly good phones and buy new ones just because a battery needs replacement. Like throwing away your remote control because the battery is gone. I'm glad that the EU is passing regulations that require phone makers to have replaceable batteries.
I don't charge my phone with a cable. I have about 15 batteries that I charge with a wall charger and change them in 2 seconds with my galaxy s5 active. This is why I wont buy one of these phones with the batteries not removable.

I feel similarly, but you may not have a choice much longer, sadly. Hence why I'm watching this video, in case it comes to the point where it must be replaced. Either that, or pay someone to do it if it's economically feasible.
I agree with you, but I sadly had to succumb to buying a new one as my S5 was no longer usable.
In time all things give out.
I was happy with my s5, my car from the 80s and many other things that have me set in my ways..... but you can only fight the inevitable for so long.

Shouldn't you re-heat the phone at the end so that the glue can better shape itself for the phone?
I did not watch the end of the video, but reheating the cover after closing should have been standard procedure. And what's with the gloves?
Looks like I'll be passing on an S9 ..... No easy access to the battery is weak, I don't care about waterproofing. I don't take showers with my phone.
If you don't care about waterproofing then buy the phone the s9 i mean you just seen it's very simple the change the battery
You sound like you'll be changing the battery every weekend. If you're not comfortable buy a battery and pay someone to do it in a few minutes

Coming here to report on my experience. (This is not my first time doing teardowns. Ive done older iphones, laptops, plenty of androids, so this was frustrating).
Step 1: Removing the back cover: Almost the entire part of my back cover was glued. I had no pry tool that reaches far into the phone that could bend the way its expected. They seem to have made the back cover impossible to remove without breaking it (yes i broke it cause I cant pry the glue further. I suggest cutting up a gift card or credit card thin so you can reach far while it bends with the curve. (bought a replacement back cover in amazon) More heat may help, but honestly id rather risk a broken back cover than a forever heat stained touch screen. I only had a hair dryer so its easy to overdo it.
My fingerprint sensor came off from the back cover (probably due to the amount of heat i used). Made it easier to remove back cover though. Which will make replacement back cover easier too.
Second layer of cover was easy. I didn't have to remove the bottom portion.
Battery, I did heat it up and eventually used a cake stripping knife to avoid bending it (just stuck it on the top left, all the way down. All adhesive came off with it. great cause my replacement battery provided a pullable adhesive (that i had to resize)
Replacing second layer of cover was slightly tricky, had to make sure its at the bottom of the gooey sticky layer at the edges. Put back the broken glass cover (for now), with packaging tape holding all the broken glass.
So far everything works (including fingerprint sensor). we'll see how good/bad the battery i bought is over time.
