In the Khrushchev 'thaw', when US & Soviet composers began to go on exchange visits, one of the first (in 1958) saw Roy Harris among the US delegation. Though the US composers were mostly disappointed by the very ĉonservative Soviet style, they DID get to hear this violin sonata. You sort of wonder how the Soviets allowed it onto one of the programmes! Harris, himself fairly conservative, described it as "by a woman composer from Leningrad" - he'd obviously not been able (or bothered?) to find out her name - and said it was "dissonant from beginning to end ... kind of ugly"! It's a pity some of his modernist colleagues didn't offer their own thoughts. But it goes to show that Ustvolskaya didn't just lack recognition in her own country!!
I find this very intense and special. A piece I was not formerly acquainted with , though i know the composer. I just bought the music and hope to learn it and program it soon.
Reinbert De Leeuw, piano
Vera Beths, violin
These are Ustvolskaya's favorite performers of her music.
Спасибо Вам . Это Замечательно.
БРАВО!!!

leider ist der Flügel nicht gestimmt:(
The Grand is not tuned
They're still around. Projecting.
meredrums1 - projecting? Today they’d be required to wear masks!
Sound imbalance. Violin needs to be louder!
