  • Taking a break from recording to...record. Got a new, better tripod and I wanted to try it out.
This one is inspired by lingering feelings from winter.
    Eurorack and Audiothingies P6.
    Patch notes:
    ARP:
Audiothingies P6 into Pittsburgh In/Out, multed to:
    - Mutable Instruments Clouds (looping delay mode, 3rd quality setting, no feedback or delay...acting as sort of a bit-shifting filter with tape hiss and reverb)
    - Doepfer A-189-1 (first mode) into Mannequins Three Sisters into Make Noise Erbe-Verb
    - Optodist into Alright Devices Chronoblob Delay
    BASS
Mutable Instruments Rings (modal synthesis mode, monophonic, Brightness down around 10 o'clock, Damping around 3, Position around noon, Structure around 10:30)
    SLIDE/TREMELO GUITAR LEAD
Mutable Instruments Rings (non-linear string mode, quadriphonic, Brightness around 3, Damping around 3, Position around 1, Structure around 10) into Intellijel Polaris (LP mode A) into second Mutable Instruments Clouds (same mode as the other Clouds).
    - Rings "in" is being fed by Mutable Instruments Clouds on CLOU
    - The CV from the sequence is running through Make Noise Maths Channel 1, which is being used to add slew/glide.
    - FM of Polaris is being modulated by Qu-Bit NanoRand in stepped random mode.
    SEQUENCING
Korg Electribe 2 to Vermona QMi2 MIDI to CV.
    Cheers.

Def one of your best and that's saying something. Amazing how you get the melodies and bass to offset each other. It's probably so simple, but it sounds like magic. I too would be interested to know how you're sequencing this. Is it all just looping and arranged by mixer levels and pitch transposition on the fly?

    • @rbeny
      @rbeny  8 років тому +3

+Phormz Lab Thank you. Sequencing is from the Electribe 2 via the Vermona QMi2. Through that, I get 4 channels of melodic sequencing. For this one, I have 4 set sequences and I play with the tones and mixing on the fly. I'm thinking of switching over to just a pure euro-sequencer, but I haven't found one that suits me yet. The new Harvestman one has me intrigued.

Unfortunately this song strikes in me the realest sense of the end, the futility of every moment. I know its all a sham...a gig. An illusion to appear sane and safe while spinning on this mystery comet of life. Im aware of the tension of living with this information, and at times, deciding to ignore it. However, every good moment has the shadow in the background. It sucks knowing the truth...but hey the song is beautiful because of how deep it takes me! Up or down is my deal, song is great.

Thanks mate ... puts things in perspective though. Wives are a lot more expensive than going modular ;-)

beautiful work! this particular piece seems to have hints of godspeed laced in it. a really moving experience.

godspeed is one of my favorite bands. not surprised some of their influence would seep into my songs. nowhere near as powerful of course :)

Agreed, definitely feeling the Godspeed, or maybe Sigur Ros or Explosions in the Sky. Post rock crying guitar sound from Rings really nails it. I did not know Rings could do that... haunting and beautiful.

@@rbeny i saw godspeed live a few years back, and it was honestly one of the most breathtaking experiences ever.
i think your composition borrows just the right amount, and then takes it on it's own journey.
some of your material has a real transcendental feeling...it's rare for me to find the time to step into that space these-days, but truly grateful that i can pop on some of your compositions to help me get there...
      best wishes :)
