Who else came here after the joker trailer but knew there was going to be a comment about who else came after the joker trailer and after watch the release movie
I'm always amazed how many people haven't even heard of this film, more so when you tell them it's one of De'Niros best performances ever..................
Scorsese's most misunderstood film, which is ironic in contrast to the film itself. It's nothing comical, it really does dig deep in the depths of the isolated desperate minds we so often walk past by, and even find ourselves in.
I fell in love with this movie the day I stumbled upon it. So much that I watched it again a few hours after the first viewing.... I'm weird like that but that was the first movie that made me want to watch it again so badly. I loved how Joker referenced and interpreted it as well. What I liked in both movies was the psychological descent of their main characters such as the fantasised events blending into reality to mess with the viewer's head and the point of no return when the characters 'snap'. Rupert is trapped inside of his fantasy world where he is at his happiest despite everyone telling him that he is crazy. Arthur on the other hand is a more disturbed individual with a mind that's impossible to mend. He pretty much starts at 100 and is at 1000 by the end.
By the way, this is one of the film's charms; not having a happy ending. Briliant picture with so much lessons about the whole entertainment industry, celeb stalking, the ideas of a world we paint inside our minds where everything is positive and always at our favor, in total shock with reality. Amazing. And bottom line: Love the girls who play Marsha and Rita.
Just saw it for the first time yesterday, the scene where Masha chases Jerry Lewis into the building is one of the funniest things i've ever seen. Dude is definitely one of the funniest human beings that ever lived.
Very nice movie, love the way De Niro fantasys in the start, about Jerry adoring his work. Nice ending to, Rupert never gave up, he got famous one way or the other:)
The King of Comedy, released in 1982, is a truly fantastic movie! Robert De Niro's performance is captivating as he relentlessly pursues his ambitions. The 1980s ambiance of New York City adds an irresistible allure, reminding us of the changes over time. It was also a treat to see Bob include his real-life wife, Diahnne Abbott, in some scenes.
Ever since I saw A Bronx Tale, I decided to watch every great movie Robert De Niro's been in and it always coincides with Martin Scorsese having directed the film :P
If Joker brought you here, you guys should also check out Taxi Driver trailer. They've released Joker Make up test footage and it definitely reminded me of Taxi Driver.
I'm getting this from Netflix this week, I've been waiting the last two years for the next Martin Scorsese picture ("Shutter Island" which come out this friday!). ; ) I possess more and more of an interest in seeing more of Scorsese's work particularly in the 1980s (his most experimental work technically and subjectively). I also want to see "THe Last Temptation of Christ".
‘Getting it from Netflix’. I remember those days. When I was 15 I ordered the king of comedy from Netflix, got bored by the first scene, and turned it off. Around that same time I saw the last temptation and was spellbound. Nowadays the last temptation is kinda draining, and king of comedy is my fav movie!
@MyManD On my Dvd the date is 1982 as well on IMDB . As you said , "it switches between 1982 and 1983" . It's true , for exemple , on the site : the 80's movies rewind , the date is 83 .
Scorsese got more out of DeNiro in this film than any of their other collaborations. The film was seminal, not easy to access, and remains a high point in black humor cinema.
@WorleyClarence Sure it counts, but I think (my personal opinion) that a movie is generally regarded as coming "from" the year it's released wide in the country of its origin. Go to most any movie listing on IMDB or Wikipedia, and it'll show a movie's origin year according it its release in its originating country. PS. I say "most", because in The King of Comedy's case, it switches between 1982 and 1983, though 1983 is the predominant year on most listings, be it DVD or movie listings site.
Excellent, but forgotten, film. I also don't think it's any coincidence that many years after this film, Robert de Niro plays a talkshow host who, himself, is being stalked by a failed comedian, who also forces the host into a big break; in Joker. Sure, the outcome is a bit different, but there are many similarities. Still, I think casting de Niro was done deliberately as a callback.
@@stevenmccallum4268 Have you even read the killing joke? The only similarities with the Joker movie are these: 1- It’s a Joker origin story 2- Obviously his origin comes from tragedy 3- He happens to be a failed comedian That’s literally it. If you take the plot of this movie, and mix it up a bit with Taxi Driver and just add the Joker in with the idea of an “origin story” you basically get the “Joker” movie. They barely had to do any hard work on the plot
@@stevenmccallum4268 It is true that a lot of great movies have references and influences to previous films, but Todd Phillips just got a little bit too excited. I would like the movie better if the plot was more original.
This is such a brilliant movie. Robert DeNiro and Martin Scorsese are legends.
You must be joking. It's an ugly and cruel movie in which some silly schmuck is being mocked for nearly 2 hours.

I watched this entire movie amazed that Mick Jagger was in this film and then I realized at the end that it was actually Sandra Bernhard.
Just snagged the Blu Ray at the 99 Cents Only Store for $1.99. It has a 30 minute Tribeca Interview with Scorcese, Deniro and Lewis as a bonus.
You found a treasure just for 2$.
"the 99 Cents Only Store for $1.99"....I smell a lawsuit!!
If the store is .99 only, then why did you have to buy the move for more than double that?
That 99 cent store ripping you off with that dollar overpricing!
I find similarities with the new Joker 2019 Movie.
might be a homage to scorsese. de niro is in the new joker movie too.
Adrian Tomo it is , it’s a homage to the king of comedy . The curtain and the red suit was a dead give away .
Joker's romantic interest
The Kid from Ironman 3 because you’ve seen the movie, right ?
Basically the new Joker movie has the plot of The King of Comedy with the style of Taxi Driver with the goal of V for Vendetta
