    I just spent the last 3 three weeks completely dismantling an 87 d150 and so far have transplanted the front suspension and steering onto my 47 1 ton dodge paneltruck, rear end too, bout to fab up firewall for steering colum and brakes hope to have it down on tires and brake lines ran in the next month, then throwing the slant six in, nothing compared to your project but im excited, thanks for video

      You’re welcome! My friend has 3D scanned his new spindles and is getting ready to machine new steering knuckles. Hope to have a new video by the first part of November!

      It’ll be badass when he’s done!! Most people don’t know I’m a huge Mopar guy. I Love Corvette’s, but I’m not a Chevy guy. I’ve had a ton of them! I’ll take a 440 six-pak car any day!!!

      @@C3Mods I LOVE Mopar! In my 20's I had a 73 Charger 440 with the 727 and a SlapStick console. Oh I miss that car so much!!!! I'm sure you must subscribe to Nick's Garage? He's a Mopar guy from Montreal and has a great channel. I'm planning to be north enough to go visit his shop. :D

      @@RestorationObsession I don’t actually subscribe to his channel, but I’ve seen it. I’ve also had a half dozen Chargers, 69 RT Coronet and a 70 340 Duster! I miss them all! I’m debating on doing another C3 project or a B body with a 440 and the EFI six-pak set up. I’d rather have that than a new hemi. Soooo much cooler.

    Awesome info. I have a 84’ D150 reg cab short box sitting in storage. it’s coming out end of summer 2022 for a full custom build. I already have a 3rd gen hemi and 2wd transmission that came out of a 07 magnum that’s getting rebuilt with twin turbos. Do you have more videos on this build? it’s filmed very well. makes me want to start filming all of my projects.

      I have more footage that i have to edit, but my friend lives 4 hours away from me, so it’s a slow process. Keep an eye out next couple months.

    what is the answer for folks who want to lower their dodge and don't have a machine shop at their house ? We are planning a 77-79 race truck project but we can't get the truck low enough .

    • @C3Mods
      @C3Mods  2 роки тому

      I don’t think there is any good way to lower it, that’s why we’re doing all this. We’ve scoured the internet and looked at car shows and tons of trucks and haven’t really found anything that works well and give you correct steering geometry.

    • @luigintentes6010
      @luigintentes6010 2 роки тому +1

      the Ram Van lower control arms of the same era allow you to drop 3 inches in the front maintaining all geometry and using the stock spindles. Cheapest option for sure.

    I've been told you can get a 2 inch drop with control arms out of a b van

    • @C3Mods
      @C3Mods  2 роки тому +1

      Yes you can. The problem is the steering linkage. It repositions it in suck a way that you get huge bump steer. My friend has his new control arms machined and I’m gonna be putting a video out soon. He made it so that the linkage is in the exact position of the original spindles.

      Could you use the van LC arm or an aftermarket drop arm with the 2 piece stock spindle and have the steering arm that bolts to the stock spindle re-machined with the rod attachment positioned higher up to compensate for the drop? I went with the same idea as you, but abandoned the Dakota drop spindle, not so much for the steering geometry but, for the loss of leverage (~2") to the steering with the Dakota spindle's shorter steering arm. With my manual box, I didn't want to be arm wrestling in parking lots. For the back I just flipped the spring to the bottom. Rethinking later for a 4 link with a 8.75".

    • @C3Mods
      @C3Mods  2 роки тому +1

      @@EamonnSeoigh I guess you could do that. My friend went his route because he has the machine tools to do it. We flipped the back forward Mount and used Chevy shackles for the rear to get a 4” drop

      @EamonnSeoigh 2 роки тому +1

      @@C3Mods Thx John. I could see issues. The way I got my truck the previous owner just cut the springs. He'd swapped out the original 225 for a 440, and wiped out his shocks. I needed to get under there to fix what was wrong....what a journey. I'm going to look at the rear spring method you've used.

    With all the milling,machining, and fabricating you will be out of a small fortune.The drop spindles were for a Dakota and not a D150.

    • @C3Mods
      @C3Mods  2 роки тому

      Fortunately for my friend, he is a machinist and it didn’t cost him anything. I realize it’s not practical for everyone to do, just showing that it’s possible. There are a million lowering kits for Chevy and Ford, but not for old Dodge trucks. No one makes 2” drop spindles for a D-150 that work properly. That’s why he choose the Dakota spindles. Good quality part, but the steering linkage is in the wrong spot. Hence, all the extra work. Definitely not a project for everyone, but when you have tons of money in a project with all quality parts and fabrication you need it to be able to go down the road and steer properly.
