      Lindsay had this tree since early 80's so about 40 years.

    Interesting that no winter pruning! I have tridents and I push back growth with winter branch pruning as there will be no bleeding. In the summer the pruning is very light to keep the siluete. In my climate I fertilize until late fall so that the next year’s growth comes out strong.

      You can but bleeding is usually the concern....another trick is to cut or score the roots slightly to stop the bleeding.
