Steve DeSilva is what it's all about. Such a nice guy. I contacted him and was invited to see his collection. I ended up buying a very special pomegranate. The bonsai community has some really awesome people and Steve is da man.
👍👌
Great video thanks!
You’re welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
When are we getting the expo haul vid? Haha or any trees/pots that you considered getting but passed on?
Tons didn’t have the funding to purchase everything I wanted
Hadir om..
You are welcome
2:09 - That is a Button Wood (Conocarpus erectus). They are a Florida native evergreen tress that are widely used as bonsai. 2:23 - Not an ivey. This is a Sea hibiscus (Hibiscus tiliaceus). Another common tropical used as bonsai. 2:30 - Not a myrtle. That is a Neea (Nea buxifolia). Yet another common tropical used as bonsai.
What is the tune you play at the beginning and end of your videos please😊😊
👍👌
Thank you for the updates. Please head out to Ed's for your yearly walk through of his maple colors. I feel last year you went to late in the season.
Great video as always!
👍👌
Thanks for watching
Did you pot that in pure akadama?
Yes I did!
I love the trunk on this ficus. I hope my ficus gets a trunk like this one day. Great work.
It’s just a matter of time!
Hey Tom, about how much would a sumo Willow leaf ficus like that cost in your area, and are ficuses readily available in your area?
I got lucky. It was a leftover sale item at one of the Bonsaiathon fund raiser for $35. At a nursery 200-300 easily
Smaller material is pretty easy to come by. The larger stuff is much harder
Nice looking ficus, Tom. I’ve killed every one I’ve ever had. I like them, but, I don’t know what they like. I live in Alaska and have very problem getting aerial roots on my ficuses. I do keep mine in a solarium which holds plenty of humidity in the summer months. I do well with benjaminas.
They didn’t like anything below 45ish
Great job! Being from Oahu, I can tell you that this deff looks like it’ll turn out to be a nice looking banyan!
Thank you for your kind words. Especially from someone that lives with banyan style trees
Nice root work and it looks great in the new pot!!
Thanks really appreciate it. Just wished I had more time to work on trees
Great video with a great topic. Thank you for posting. I found a Nursery tree that is tall and slender and overgrown for a 15 gallon pot. I’m guessing nobody is buying it because there are no branches within my reach. I’m guessing the tree is 15 feet tall and all the branches are at the top. is it safe to chop and bark below the lowest branch? It sounds like you may have done that with this tree in the past. Thank you for your contribution to the Bonsai community. Keep up the good work.
It’s pretty safe to perform something like this right at the beginning of spring before bud break or right after the leaves harden off in spring.

Thanks so much for taking time out of your visit to do these videos. Those of us who can't make it got to go there thru you!
I’m glad you enjoyed the tour! I hope these videos get you excited about bonsai.
22:20 I believe the name you are looking for is "spruce" for those unknown pines ;-)
Thanks for the id
One of the best yet. Thank you!
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
27:25 so that's why i missed you I was standing in line for like an hr for the Nao pots =)
lol most likely
very amateurish trees compared to europe and japan
Helpful comment, mate.
Unlike Europe and Japan. Most of those trees are generational trees and have a long history. These trees are almost all grown in US.
Thanks for all of these videos Tom! I love reliving the show
You’re welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed the series.
Cheers from Australia, fantastic coverage, I'm happy to see the formal upright Cryptomeria take the Chocolates. And for so many others winning awards that have long provenance as bonsai.
Thanks for watching from Australia. Glad you enjoyed the show!
👍👌
Thank you for watching
Window shopping, I love it!!!
It is the best kind of shopping!
Thanks Tom!
You bet!
Love this videos. I am planning on taking a trip to riverside California , i want to visit as much nurseries and exhibits as possible . Any tips of what nurseries to visit around the area? 😁
Most are nurseries and not specialties of bonsai. Tak Shimizu is located in Riverside
I think that old black pine with the flaking bark should of one something
Age is something you cannot rush or fake
Tom. I want to thank you so much for all these Videos. We Need More people to take time to do what you are Doing for the Bonsai community.Tom just wish it was Easier to get Bonsai Trees from this Great Show. Peace be With You forever
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy the videos!
Stunning trees. Next year I’ll be there. Thank you for all the great videos
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I hope to see you there!
Thanks for your effort! I really enjoyed the comments on the trees. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sadly it has been stripped of all its Chinese religion including Buddhism, how can you have a Chinese Garden without at least 1 statue of the Buddha?..pathetic. And the fancy rocks are beyond ugly...more like grotesque. Unfortunate...
To each their own. Buddhism would not be Chinese as it would cross into India, japan, Korea , and not limited some parts of Pakistan. I believe they were going for a particular northern “royal” aspects as I have seen this type of style while traveling through China.
@@BaikoenBonsai I think all of their (China's) architecture and art was based on their scriptures...that's where the inspiration came from and why it's beautiful. Perhaps the gardens you have seen have been influenced by secularism, as well as this one.
Liked the video and the exhibitors' comments on the history of their trees. Your video gave us folks not at the PBE a good look at excellent trees. Thank you!!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It was amazing to see the history and artistry come to life.
Great video as always, Tom! The crepe myrtle you noted was actually a myrtle.
Thanks for catching that! But if we are looking at the Shohin from Jay Nolan it is actually a Neea
👍👌
Thanks for the thumbs up Bruce
amazing video!!! ( maybe you don't need to put your face quite so close to the camera)
Thank you! I'll try to keep the camera distance in mind for the next video.
@@BaikoenBonsai Heh, I watched on my phone and it's the difference between tiny screen and then on the TV. The face is huuuge :)
The trees was amazing at the show but the prices of the trees at the sales table was outrageous high. I bought a large square pot for my white pine
I hope you enjoy your new pot!
@@BaikoenBonsai yes it is a brown none glazed pot with kind of a gold shire on it
Hey! You missed Nancy Schramm of Carman’s Nursery! With her beautiful bonsai starters!
You are absolutely right! I should have mentioned Nancy. Thanks for pointing that out!
Andrew's tree in winter Hazel not Witch Hazel
Thank you for pointing that out.
Your photography is excellent. I like seeing the entire tree and then seeing the detail. Great work!
Thanks, I was trying to showcase the whole tree and it's details!
Once again , thanks for showing all these great trees, my guess for the tree at the 3:20 mark is an Oregon Grape, guessing from the berries.
It’s some type of tropical
Hey Tom, thanks for all the videos on the expo, really nice to be able to see the show trees and the all the venders as well. I think, like @tomtyan1830, the Doug Fir trees are Mountain Helmocks. Thanks again for the videos.
Dude we didn't get to be in each other's videos this yr
Laugh I played guess the trees this year instead
Been buying from matt (bonchi bonsai) for years. Hes a great guy and knows alot too
Thanks for taking us around, stunning trees!
Thanks for visiting
Great content. Thanks!
You’re welcome! More to come later this week.
