It is weird, I learned Canadian history and this whole song feels familiar, yet different. I guess that is because Canada and America have similar histories, but with different focuses.

Oh wow! I never thought of that. A lot of the events here (Columbus, 7 Years War, WWII, etc.) do have something to do with Canada though!

That and the War of 1812 basically created the idea of Canada as a unique entity for the first time. The Americans invading made the French and English settlers stop fighting and focus on the bigger threat. The irony is that if America never invaded, much of modern day Canada probably would be part of America.
